Can confirm that you should call. I have called their shop multiple times and felt bad because i didn't know what i didn't know about gear and they never pressured me once about buying something! They stayed on the phone with me until they were sure i got the info i needed and never once gave me the impression that they were just trying to get off the phone. Best costumer service i have ever experienced. Obviously i buy from them now, but boy did they earn a costumer.
That’s how I learned to fly fish from the old timers in late 60’s. Swinging wet flies was all those guys did back then. I can remember the silk lines also. My most fun way to fish, and some of the most vicious strikes you’ll feel from a little 8-10” trout ! Some of those old wet patterns - hares ear, cow dung , lead wing coachman and a few others that I first learned to tie are still catching fish for me. I’m glad to see still around , guys still fishing this way ! Enjoy the videos Brian !
I catch trout here in NorCal swinging little nymphs (Birds nests are best) and soft hackles and emergers. It's funny how sometimes the fish aren't interested in a good drift but then take them on the swing. It is a very fun and frankly relaxing way to fish.
I love swinging fly I mostly spey fish with big gear just because there is spot 30 minutes up the road and my girl friend and I go 3 or 4 times a week. But when I get the chance on the weekends I do the two drive to my favorite river I mostly use my 8 wt rod there steelhead in there and just a tapered leader premade one . I just chuck the fly in the holes where I think or have gotten a fish out of I just let the current grab my line and pull the fly out of the hole I usually fish this style walking down stream . On the way back up I dry fly fish with my 4wt
This explanation is helpful, but it would be even more helpful if you explained what swinging a fly means without using the word "swing." That said, I got the gist. You are looking for non-drift movement of your streamer/fly and that motion can be achieved by letting your line pull your streamer through the water. The non-drift movement is wanted because you are attempting to present something that looks like a small fish or other food that can swim in the water.

@Madriveroutfitters Strangely, though it happens pretty regularly, it always feels like a big surprise!
