- The most common question I get is: is that trail stock friendly?
So here is a video for those looking for a stock friendly trail that still delivers some of the most beautiful mountain views out there. It is one of my favorite places to camp and I hope you enjoy the video.

I took my Cadillac Escalade through there and camped. Good memories. Crazy how much the flood changed the landscape.

I would add that this trail is anything but stock friendly in the winter! Even heavily modified jeeps (on 40's) will get stuck after any sort of snow storm. Plus the rutting can be extreme after the big hill. Don't go without a guide (someone who's been many times) your first time in the winter. Chains + winches + multiple vehicles are a MUST!
I have to agree with that. Winter makes the area more challenging for sure
I missed my window too do it this year. My truck is down and my other....... It's my wife's daily..... Mine but..... She kinda claimed it on me lol 😅 just moved from the coast.
We have done it several times in stock Xterra’s. In winter, mostly in 2wd except for exiting the winter in ice shelf’s. for the challenge. It’s mostly a road. Winches and chains on board but never used. When it’s -25 you want to drag your brakes for awhile after a river crossing.

The white canyon in your vids, looks almost exactly like one I bought new on 07 and traded back to kipp Scott in 2010. I love your cids jeep up the great work. I am usually out In the sundre/ limestone area. Keep making great content and keep the rubber side down.

I went there back in the spring of 2022 with a bunch of friends with Toyota Tacomas and me as the only one having a stock Honda Ridgeline gen2 upto the river. I had to leave my Honda on area just before the river crossing as the terrain got a a bit extreme and rocky. It was fun, thanks for sharing.

I never had a vehicle capable of making it out there until this August when I bought a 15' tacoma trd offroad...ghost was my home away from home every weekend in August/September and I'm already getting antsy for spring so I can get back out there. I never went too much further than trail marker 37 because one of the tires had a leak and a plug in it and I was afraid of a blowout down there. I've since done a 2" old man emu lift and new wheels/tires but that didn't happen until thanksgiving weekend so I only got out twice with my new set up. The full moon on thanksgiving weekend was the brightest I have ever seen, I had perfect vision across the whole valley all night. The weekend before that I saw the starlink satellites come up over a mountain peak and rise up to a point in the sky and disappear one by one. The first weekend I went solo I also had a somewhat close grizzly encounter with a mother and 2 cubs getting a little close to my site.

Awesome video! I just picked up a Lexus GX 460 and plan on making it into an overlander. I live in Airdrie so this might be the first trip we do in the spring!

last feb i got my stock 2007 dodge grand caravan to that dam at 9:27. probably a bit further than i should have taken it lol, wow im suprised that sign is where it stops, i walked way passed that, I push the crap out of that little camper conversion i made.

Thanks so much for the video! I'm new to off roading and just got my first vehicle that can make it off road (97 Jeep TJ). However, I am also very scared of breaking the jeep on these trails (coz im in school and cannot afford expensive replacement parts) but this video encouraged me to try and give this trail a shot once summer is here! Doesn't look like there are too many places on here where I could break the jeep even if I tried 😂

@Overland Alberta quick question. Im trying to understand what you mean by high clearance? I have around 15 inches on my lowest point on the jeep which are my differentials. Would that be enough?

@@parthmehndiratta3831 You are good! Some SUV's only have a few inches of clearance. 15 inches is more than enough for this trail!! have fun when you go in!!

I’ve applied to work in Calgary so hopeful to move to Cochrane from the UK and would like to spend my days off in the summer doing just this!… Can I look you up if/when I get there for group outings such as this? Been down there in my Mitsubishi RVR car!
First time down there was over 20 years ago with my 89 Toyota 4x4. Had a succession of Jeeps as well. Got to return there with my Tracker now...

Was this in late September of last year? Pretty sure you guys drove by us when we were random camping near point 32(ish). I remember seeing your vehicles go by and then come back not too long afterwards. I always wondered why you came back...this video would explain it heh.

Planning a trip up from the states in late May. Do you think it will still be snow covered? Or will at least the tracks be clear? What about the water crossings? I know you can't predict the future weather but just wondering what an average year looks like and whether or not I should expect snow or have a reasonable expectation of clear paths and manageable water crossings. By the way really enjoyed the video now subscribed

May could go either way. A late snowfall could come into play.
As for the river crossings, its always good to check them 1st, spring will bring more water.

I would like to say thank you for making this video. Awesome video I did not know there is good off-roading near Calgary. What do you use to navigate ? Such as which GPS (ONx, Gaia or Garmin). I would like to start off roading and learn how to handle the rig on these trails. I have a 2015 4runner trail edition with KDSS. It is mostly stock but I do have good tires (goodyear wrangler). What other gear would you recommend before I head out to the trail such as Air compressor, tire repair kit or recovery kit? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the kind words! I use Gaia for GPS maps. I always recommend recovery gear as one of your 1st purchases. Winch, recovery boards, kinetic ropes, shackles, etc. Good tires are always good to have!!

@@OverlandAlberta Check out the Calgary Chapter of the Alpine Club of Canada. They do a Ghost ice climb weekend every December between Boxing Day and New Years. Or there abouts.

@OverlandAlberta My apologies -- yours is a great video. Meant to say that it inspired me to try that road on my adventure motorcycle! The comment I left was intended for a video where they were showing how to replace brake bleeder screws. You must really have been wondering what on earth I was on about 😀
A stock Rav4 will make it to the riverbed no problem. Some of the other trials (Lost Knife in particular) will definitely not.

How is this trail in the late spring early summer ? Are the river crossings flooded or inaccessible?
You will see higher water levels in the spring. It's always good to check how deep it is before driving across. I have seen torrential flooding in the spring there before....so always check and be safe
What app we’re you using to show the trail points?
The map with trail points is a map you can download from the Alberta government. search "Ghost PLUZ map" and it should take you there.

How do you go about finding offroad routes? Is there a good resource you can recommend? Thanks
I use a combination of a few things.
If you are on crownland, The Gaia app is great for finding routes. Get the paid version and you can see public tracks. Always double check that there are no trail closures.
If you are in a public land use zone (PLUZ) you can download the maps from the Alberta government showing you allowed trails.
@@OverlandAlberta Thanks! I have Gaia premium already for plotting road routes, so I'll dig into that some more and grab some PLUZ maps.
You NEED the pluz maps, as bad as they are; Ghost is a designated trail system that has seasonal closures.
so from what i see you can only go up there during the winter months?

In the summer time for sure. Weather always plays a role in how hard trails can be.
If you have a couple of 4wds, friends, a tow rope, and half a brain give it a go.
