I can relate to the avoiding sadness. I feel like I’m paralyzed when I’m sad.

My mom never spoke to me when I was sad as a kid. I would just find a 1 pound bag of peanut m&m’s on my pillow. That was the best she could do. Unfortunately I ate my feelings for the next 40 years. She didn’t deal with her own sadness either. We had a tough life back then. 6 kids in 10 years and an evil alcoholic dad/husband. Therapy is priceless!

I felt pain in my own belly, reading the part about her leaving you a 1 pound bag of peanut m&m's.
If you are comfortable sharing, I am curious to know what helped you. I eat my feelings, too.

@@powers6253 simply realizing that I did that helped. I didn’t notice I did that. Second is faith in Christ and forgiving my parents. They did the best they could. I have had a lot of therapy in my life and have great therapists but the best thing I did was to follow Jesus. He heals and changes our focus to eternal things. The things of the world don’t have power over us anymore.

I was excited to hear an in-depth interview about this topic, and it was more about how Rachel handles her mental health. Not what I was expecting!

Good point about weaponizing - the free spirit vs. nerd outlook @ 33:40. The free spirit can guilt trip the saver (you're too up tight, YOLO) as much as the saver can guilt trip the free spirit (you spend too much).

Rachel is probably the only one that can match John's honesty. They have great chemistry and I relate better since they speak millennial.

They do if it pertains to something they would like to talk to the public about. Christy Wright has many different guests on her show and they all have had Matthew McConaughey on their shows recently.

@E Dave has also mentioned spending huge amounts of money on her wedding and paying for her college (a mostly useless degree for her, no less). She might handle her money well, but she never had to spend a dime on some of people's most expensive endeavors.
