For a second I was worried you weren't going to do WWE/WCW/TNA/'major promotion' matches out of fear of copyright strikes. Good to see that's not the case.
I bet this is number 1 for the whole season 😂 Luke hates this match
That sounds so sad
Miz gets concussed in a snails pace match with a rock run in
I'm sure you have, but there was one I saw at an Indy show where a six man tag match all of a sudden went into slow motion! Even the crowd started chanting in slo mo IIRC. 😂😂😂😂
Another was a masked team that "hypnotized" their opponents. Another hilarious one to watch.
Not gonna lie I heard ‘he can’t wrestle’ and Cena and thought it was the Cena/Laurinitis match I’d been asking for since season 1
There must be a typo in the title. Surely this is a new series called, "Best Match Ever."
Came here to say this!
They should do that, though! I know it would be difficult because they can't show the matches, but they did that for the first series.
Greatest match ever
You have to give Bryce credit in this. They used to say Flair could have a great match with a broom. Bryce sold a match with just himself as referee in a way that the crowd could get into and play along in. That balcony dive was hardcore.
I agree, you could have any other ref than Bryce and it just wouldn't be as good as it is. Everything had to be done correctly, the crowd playing along, the ref, the spots and the timing has to be perfect. I would think if you try this match at a WWE or an AEW show it probably wouldn't work nearly as well there.
@phoenixrising1992 absolutely. The crowd playing along is what really sells the match. This sort of goofy stuff isn't what GCW is typically known for. You'd expect something like this in Chikara or DDT Pro, not GCW. It's like when The Osirian Portal went from Chikara to CZW and got the hardcore guys to do breakdancing via hypnosis, but in that moment the crowd completely suspended disbelief and it worked.
Flair could have a great match with a broom. Bryce can have a great match with himself
@@badgerestrada8899Now that you mention it, I think GCW is kinda like the American version of DDT expect with a more hardcore focus style. Both variety style shows that emphasis their beliefs with an intimate fanbase who are all in on what they see but prone to fair criticisms. Not saying they're one to one as promotions, but they play similar roles in comparison to their contemporaries in their countries.
Credit for what? Ruining any credibility he might have had?
Damn, this shouldn't be considered for this list
Invisible man and invisible stan deserve better
They went out there and put their bodies on the line only to be in the running for worst match. Disgraceful
Invisible Stan deserves the worst!
They changed their minds in a later episode and removed it from the list.
You spelled Best wrong
Yeah this match is great
You right
Exactly
Haha
Yes this is the opposite of bad. It's tremendous. 😂
The technical prowess of this match is like no other. Invisible Man rivals the likes of Bret Hart, Bryan Danielson, and Kurt Angle. Invisible Stan may be the greatest heel in all of professional wrestling. Thank you Wrestletalk for this amazing presentation today
Don’t think invisible Stan is given the credit he deserves. His run on the indies was legendary. I can’t wait for the day when we finally see the handshake that mends the friction between Stan and Man
@@ryantobin2158with the lawsuit and stans "personal" issues unfortunately i dont think we will ever see it..
What are you lads on about? This is widely considered the greatest match of all time! SHAME
Best worst match ever
It’s a room full of people who are all in on the same joke and it’s a beautiful thing
Yup and that’s the whole point of wrestling in the first place yes we all know it’s choreographed and that the winner has already been picked but we are all in on that and we love it
Bryce is a genius for this. This match doesn't deserve to be on a "worst ever" list.
If you think this is a bad match, you dont know ball
I wish they had the backstory of this, where the Invisible Man's death was announced, but it turned out he had faked his death to reveal the evil machinations of his murderous brother, Invisible Stan! That's why there was a welcome back chant for Invisible Man.
That's amazing! It was clear that Invisible Stan had been established as a heel already but that backstory is incredible.
This was Bryce Remsberg’s crowning achievement. His magnum opus.
Worst? WORST?? How very dare you
This is one of the best matches ever, I'm just here to see Sully's reactions to it.
It was John Cena vs. Peacemaker.
Sully, "think of your invisible kids!" didn't get the respect it deserved. Heard and appreciated.
@@AdamjacobiGIA Sully made me laugh out loud with that one.
9:17 so goddamn funny.
This absolutely should not be on this list. This is genuinely a brilliant match.
So… I’m actually the co-author of a John’s Hopkins thesis about metatheatrics and this specific wrestling match hahaha
That's awesome.
I wanna hear more! If possible at least.
This is genuinely one my top 10 favorite matches.
Also, big pop for the Adventure Time clip at 13:42
The people demand Tyrus vs EC3
Nobody has ever demanded Tyrus.
@@TheEvilCheesecake Britt McHenry from FOX certainly has. 😬
@@mjuzumakinobody *human* at the very least
@@mjuzumaki I mean she certainly demanded he stop sending her weird messages... If it's me one I'm thinking of at least.
In the context of this series, there is demand for Tyrus
In all seriousness, the only way somebody could look at this as a bad match is l if they’re in the crowd who’s so concerned about “killing the business”.
This was, for all intents and purposes, an art exhibition.
It broke down the craft of professional wrestling to its base principles, and demonstrated the importance of the referee and the crowd in creating an entertaining match.
Except it really didn't, because it is all surface level. You have a crowd of maybe 200ish people, who all knew the joke going in, and massively overreacting to a referee doing bad pantomime. It creates no investment or depth beyond a gag, and no lasting memory other than "you remember that stupid joke match?"
Breaking down the craft of pro wrestling, and highlighting the importance of the ref and the crowd, would require some nuance. If they were actually able to create a compelling narrative, that would be one thing. But they don't, it's a joke for the sake of a joke, which does nothing but pop the people who are already in on it
@@TheRealRMG Buddy: It’s a comedy match. It’s allowed to be silly.
Yeah, maybe it’s not Savage/Steamboat, I’m not trying to make it into something it isn’t. But it’s a really cool match that serves as an important showcase of some fundamental elements of this sport we all love and appreciate.
After all let’s not pretend that wrestling is not INCREDIBLY silly. I’d go as far as to say inherently silly. There is an inherent absurdity to two people in their underwear hugging each other unconscious. Understanding that will broaden your horizons about what this art form is capable of.
Also: all jokes are made for the sake of jokes. That’s how jokes work.
@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick First of all, the fact that it is silly is not an inherent detriment. You said it yourself, the very concept of wrestling is silly; but that's not the only thing it is. This match is so over the top silly that it loses any value the medium has, because there is no investment. A perfect example is Santino Marella almost winning the 2011 Royal Rumble. It would have been very silly indeed if a comedy jobber had won the match, but because the people were invested, they popped like crazy for it, and it left a lasting impact, so much so that the WWE felt the need to repeat the spot in the Elimination Chamber that same year.
While this got a pop from the people in attendance, there is no impact, other than it being a joke. It obviously didn't get either wrestler over, since they don't exist, and didn't create any long term interest, so what was the point? Not everything has to be HBK vs Undertaker in terms of stakes, but it has to at least have some kind of hook, otherwise there is no appeal.
The perfect illustration of this is this very comment section. Look at all the people saying this is one of the greatest matches of all time, 7/5 stars, etc. But they aren't praising it for being actually good or compelling, they are praising it as a joke, a continuation of the gag that was set up by the match, but that's all it is.
Also, the point of a joke is not always just to tell a joke. Stories can be told through jokes, compelling narratives can be told through jokes, jokes can be used to comment on other matters, jokes can be used for a million things besides just being a joke for a joke's sake
@@TheRealRMGjokes CAN be a lot of things besides also being jokes but sometimes you just see a meme and laugh, you don't think about it too much, you had a good time and that's all. And sometimes that's just enough, you don't need to revolutionize the business every time, entertaining a crowd while they're in attendance means they had a good time, they had fun and went home happy, is it deep? No. Is it silly? Most certainly, but it did it's job
@@TheRealRMG I would push back against the idea that there’s no investment involved, it’s just a different kind.
For one, this isn’t the first match that the Invisible Man gimmick was used in. He was used before against actual wrestlers to demonstrate the wrestling ability of performers like Chris Brooks, Joey Janela and others, and he would be used after this.
The joke is that this time there were TWO “invisible” wrestlers, further expanding on the joke that the GCW faithful would already be familiar with, and this time showcasing the skills of a different performer, specifically, referee Bryce Remsburg.
Furthermore: this match was held at Joey Janela’s Spring Break, which is already an established comedic event, containing such other innately ludicrous matches as the Clusterfuck Battle Royale. The event was already meant to be comedic, and there was a comedic match on the card. Totally appropriate for the event it was booked for.
And because the match IS a joke, there is nothing wrong with TREATING IT like a joke. I don’t believe you’re acting in good faith by pretending that it’s a BAD THING for the obvious joke match to be treated like an obvious joke match. Try and approach the match on its own terms. It’d be like if you made fun of a mime for not ACTUALLY being stuck inside of a box. Like, no shit, buddy, everybody else knows that this is fake and silly, that’s the point.
And yes! I agree with you! A joke can be used to tell a compelling narrative! LIKE THIS MATCH. It’s a commentary on the innate absurdity of wrestling, the importance of the audience and referee as characters in-and-of-themselves in a wrestling performance, and a showcase of Bryce Remsburg’s athleticism, and ability to sell a match.
Live a little, man. Wrestling is supposed to be fun.
John Cena was in this match too, easy to miss though.
I am begging you to learn a second joke.
@@TheEvilCheesecakethank you
Dont listen to them it was wonderful
I have crippling social anxiety, I had a severe panic attack in a small venue with only friends present that led me to the hospital. THIS MATCH makes me sad I wasn't in that crowded room. It's one of my favourite matches ever simply because, like Luke said, it's an entire room full of people just having fun and making magic.
Bryce is the best ref ever, the only reason anyone argues it is that Charles Robinson had to sprint down the wrestlemania ramp to count a near fall in the main event.
ok.
The only reason Charles Robinson was running that slowly is because that evil MF'er Invisible Stan had joined the Edgeheads and was on his back as a distraction tactic to slow him down.
But in all seriousness Sauvie, I'm sorry to hear about your condition and hope you one day manage to smash that anxiety like Stan was through a gahd damn table and get to watch a match like this live.
That referee deserves an Emmy for his dedication here. What a showman, must be so hard to do that and he nailed it.
This is unironically one of the matches that sorta got my brother into wrestling. Hes not like a big fan but it made him realize that its not supposed to be taken so seriously all the time. Its a show.
This match is good actually
Anyone who thinks is a bad match needs to lighten up and have fun. This is a five-star classic. I can only have fun when I watch this ridiculous thing.
Everytime someone praises this match Cornette loses a year of his life
how the fuck is that guy not dead yet if that's the case
gotta praise fast
I'm glad that Tempest put this on here as a good (certified classic, in my opinion) match that people who take wrestling too seriously consider being one of the "worst." This match is a god damned masterpiece, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves if they're taking the right things in life seriously.
this is the match i show my friends who don't like wrestling to show them how awesome wrestling can be
When you don't have enough wrestlers to fill up your PPV card in MyGM mode:
I don't even have to watch the video. Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan is one of the greatest pieces of ref work in the history of pro wrasslin.
The worst thing about these videos is having to wait a month for the next one after, absolutely top class content guys keep it up ❤️
The line "think of your invisible kids" from Sullivan broke me so badly. Lmfao
since we're adding matches to piss off cornette. Ibushi vs Yoshihiko next lol.
The, like, 6 Canadian Destroyers in a row by Yoshihiko is utterly brutal in that match!
Co-sign on this one. Would love to see their reaction though I imagine that Tempest has already seen it.
Konosuke Takeshita’s last match with Yoshihiko is legit just the final act of a horror movie and it’s great
I’ve watched this match more times than I’ll ever like to admit and made other friends watch it! Love showing it to non wrestling fans also! It’s perfect!
Speaking seriously, this is the second time Ive seen this, and I'm still entertained. This isn't bad at all :D
i mean it when i say this is on my list for one of the best matches ever, its so pure and an amazing tribute to wrestling tropes
I hope John Cena gets a match against these two in his farewell tour
Best match ever!
When you can get a crowd to be more hype for this then some matches on RAW .....with just a ref .....you know you created A 10 stars match ....Bryce is the GOAT of referee
Finally, a really good match. Always weird having a good match on here.
I was in the audience for this match, and saying this is a 'worst match ever' candidate is simply wild. It's fantastic.
I wanted to see how Chekov's table would resolve...and yeah, it ended just as I thought it would. And no, I don't know how they did it, either.
I assume they did the table breaking with some fishing wire. Just had it attached to the board and had someone pull it when the spot happened.
Nah you guys are wrong this match is awesome
Imagine showing this match to someone to introduce them to wrestling for the very first time. 😂
I think the crowd makes this match. If the crowd wasn't participating as much as they did, this match would be horrible
Agreed, this match shows how important a crowd is, 100% correct.
This match could only work with either a GCW or DDT crowd.
what the hell is this masterclass doing in this series? I'm not even kidding it's perfectly done as it's intended.
As soon as you teased this a few months back I have be waiting for this video, Bryce does an absolutely brilliant job throughout this entire match
The fact this match is part of the series while sure gets more eyes on it is a disservice to how great this is.
This is so high-concept, I love it. It's a deconstruction of professional wrestling. And the crowd being totally sold on the concept makes it so much better.
I dont know what's more fun, watching this match or watching the Wrestlelads commentary. Both are incredible
I absolutely REFUSE to accept that this is one of the "worst" matches ever. This is such a masterclass in how important the referee and the crowd are to wrestling as a whole. It's 10 minutes of wrestling fun *without any wrestling.* And I think that's beautiful.
Imagine you finally convinced your friend or partner to go with you to a wrestling show. All this time you've talked about how great it is and they go and see this match
Bryce is the best comedy ref going! Him reffing for any comedy bout is bound to be gold
How dare they even had the passing thought that this should be on the Worst Match Ever list.
This is magic.
This is my first exposure to this match, and I'm so happy that this is a format it can have a spot in. I cannot think of another way it would be on the channel except under the guise of being the worst match ever, and I'm so happy it was shoehorned in.
Kota Ibushi vs. Yoshihiko when?
I was there!
When Invisible Stan fell on me I tried to clear the way
"Wrestling is fun. It's not always serious business."
It can be fun, without it being a joke.
A great piece of wrestling-adjacent theater, where the audience and referee and commentators all agree to be in on the joke together. I unironically love this match.
I want to see you reacting to Minoru Suzuki vs Asuka. 😂 Absolute carnage.
I want to see a match with Bryce reffing and they do every spot the same but this time with actual wrestlers but they never say anything and just wait to see if anyone notices
Known behind the scenes as the "Visible Stan vs Visible Man" match.
The entire match is a love letter to what wrestling can be. It's one of my all-time faves.
I am 100% sure someone forgot that this video should go on the "best matches ever"
this doesnt qualify for worst match ever. It's one of the greatest comedy matches ever.
The only one that I believe can be a contender other than this match for best worst ever would be a match involving Yoshihiko. Sadly, I don't think Invisible Man vs Yoshihiko could ever happen, but if it did, it would be more magical than what Osirian Portal pulled off in CZW's ring.
This was actually one of the best wrestling segments ever.
Please feature, The Social Distancing Match in GCW. That one was hilarious!
The only time Bryce Remsberg wasn’t completely blind calling a match.
Respect Invisible Man vs Invisible Stan
I was at this. Bryce is so damn good at his job and it works so well when the crowd actually gets into it
I seen this match about 2 years ago I think, made me smile the whole way through. This is wrestling, it’s suppose to be fun not stuck up. Love it
Hey Guys, maybe you should The Giant Baba vs Raja Lion match from AJPW its just so weird and funny and its available on youtube i believe so you can find the footage of the full match but it basically was the shot at NJPW and Inoki shoot style matches at the time and raja lion was just some ordinary guy but they have him built and make him pretend like he is some big kickboxing champion from pakistan who is undefeated and just the kicks and stuff of his its just funny to watch and people at that time probably believed it because not much communication and internet so can't confirm if its real or not thats why kayfabe survived back then but still you should give it a shot if it doesn't causes any problem in uploading as with many japanese matches even of ajpw it does a bit from what i heard
Dave Meltzer 6 stars
Guys, do you do shorts? If so, I need 13:36 clipped, up to the insert. It is excellent and should be inserted into all wrestling comment boards.
Thanks for covering this one, guys! I've heard about it, but somehow never tried to track it down to watch. I'm a serious-minded workrate curmudgeon, and I think this is amazing.
But I mean, I love Toru Yano, too, so...
Just to clarify:
Invisible Man was a mainstay on the indies and Japan. This match with his brother Stan was his return to GCW AFTER DYING. Invisible Man passed away in February 2019. The match with his brother was 2 months later. GCW's own statement on the Invisible Man reads:
"GCW and Joey Janela are sad to announce the passing of wrestling legend “The Invisible Man” on Tuesday morning at his home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Invisible was a pioneer in the wrestling world. In 1991, he founded W.O.M.B.A.T. Wrestling, a southern regional promotion which toured the gulf coast before folding in 1995 amidst the complete collapse of wrestling’s territory system.
Invisible’s success was derailed in the late 90’s amidst a difficult battle with addiction to asian massage and huffing aerosol cans. Invisible spent years in and out of jails and rehab before finding the Church of Scientology in 2007, which he credited with turning his life around.
In recent years, Invisible Man returned to prominence after connecting with low level independent wrestler Joey Janela and partaking in several events during wrestling’s famed “Mania Week”. In 2016, Man returned to Tuscaloosa where he opened the W.O.M.B.A.T. Training Center in an effort to “give back” to the next generation of aspiring wrestlers. Invisible Man was a passionate vegan, a devoted listener of radio personality Art Bell, and a huge fan of Australian rock super group “Men at Work”. His infectious smile lit up every locker room he entered and he was both well liked and respected by his peers.
Invisible passed away on Thursday at the Age of 49. He is survived by his wife Invisible Lisa, his son Invisible Sam and his brother Invisible Stan."
It's fascinating as someone here from nrb who has no knowledge of wrestling to see so many comments saying 'what do you mean, this should not be on this list!' and then the occasional but very long and sincere comments about how this is such a disappointing match. I get why they included it on this list, because it's so well executed for what it is, but also what it is makes some people mad. I'm personally glad they included it, because I never would have seen it otherwise, and it really is a beautiful example of people playing together to create something fun
It's also so cool to me that they can look at the ref doing certain things and know what technical moves they're miming out now. Because I don't know anything about wrestling, I have no idea what the match 'should' look like, but it's obvious that this match could have happened between two visible wrestlers. And I know that if I saw this for something I was actually familiar with, I'd be able to 'see' that match happening too
Shout out to the commentators in this match as well
Bryce is a ref that has always been able to sell the carnage of AEW matches, but this is just hilarious 🤣
This is one of the reason why I love wrestling and it's fans. This is our soap operas, with a little bit of violence. I love it.
Bryce Remsberg was the referee at the very first indy show I ever went to, a Chikara show in a gym. He 100% won me over. I bought his shirt. The match you've chosen is one of my favorites of all time!
This is genuinely wonderful! The crowd are so into it and Bryce deserves a damn Oscar for it 😅
Seeing his reaction to the table spot, I now just want to go to a magic show with Sullivan.
OMG, that has me laughing so hard! 😂😂😂😂
I wish i saw this one live! That was hilariously awesome!
Being a former ref, I could only wish I could ref that well. That was amazing
I saw these guys wrestle during WrestleMania weekend in 2018 at Spring Break. Of the non-WWE stuff I saw that week/weekend, this stood out along with Will Ospreay, Walter, Orange Cassidy, and Penta El 0 M.
That was an absolute Tour de Force by Bryce, no 2 ways about it. Oscar worthy.
you can see in this match how much Bryce carries it because for the small amount of time Remsburg was out there was a noticable loll in the energy of the match showing this match only works with some of his caliber
I actually lol’d when he took the gloves out 😂😂
This is what happens when you book John Cena vs John Cena.
That psychology! Those moves! A little bit of overbooking with the outside interference, but these two invisible men are truly wrestling artisans!
I didn't know you guys were doing a best-match-ever series now.
The pure snub of this not winning the match of the year in 2019 is criminal
How dare you...This is a showcase of the art and psychology of pro wrestling while giving one of the best in ring performances ever by a referee
How is this match even mentioned here. We all know this is a 10 Star classic.
Flagged for false advertising because this was a 10 star classic
invisible Man vs invisible Stan > Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker
Better than their Saudi match for sure! But that's a low bar.
Imagine spending money just to see a ref fuck around for a while
You can see the guys arm move to pull the string for the table spot
😂😂😂
