    I remember reading somewhere that even Mark Hamill was uncomfortable doing the Joker's lines for this movie. Even the man who is regarded as the best voice of the Joker ever was disturbed by what his character did to Robin. If that doesn't prove how messed up this was, I don't know what will.

      Bro that ROTJ flashback alone eclipses every other horrific thing the Joker did

    Honestly, the thing about the Joker finding out who Batman is, I still kind of prefer his outlook on it in Arkham City. When Harley's about to take off Batman's mask, the Joker flat tells her to stop, and has the line: "No one's who you think they are, dear. Why spoil the fun?"
    Like he doesn't want to know who Batman really is, because he just wants him to be Batman and no one else.

    • @maxithalo7796

      Unlike other villains joker doesn't care, because He likes batman, other villains want to know his identity to blackmail him or show it to the world so batman can be arrested, but Joker wants to fight with batman, if he got the chance, he woudn't really kill him, Like that episode in one of the animated series where batman's gone and joker Stops commiting crimes, makes himself a Batman suit and starts to fight crime, and really starts thinking that he IS batman

      Some people only play games because they enjoy the competition. Even if you could win anytime you want, would you really want to when it will result in removing every opponent and no further games can happen? They just want the game to continue even if it means restraining themselves and pulling punches. In a game of life and death, would finishing your opponent be worth it to permanently end a rivalry and game?

      This comment is years late, so you probably won't see it, but I wanted to say something here so whatever. From my perspective, the Joker in the DCAU doesn't usually want to know batman's identity, same as with the other versions. Normally, he prefers to stay in the dark. However, this battle was designed by the Joker to be the final clash, the big finish where Joker actually kills Batman, once and for all. In this situation, Joker's goal is to completely break Batman, defeating him utterly, and for that he's going to pull every trick he can. If he wanted both of them to live through the day and keep fighting, it wouldn't fit the character. But if taunting Bruce with his secret identity will hurt Batman, Joker'll do it in this moment is simply to cause Batman pain before he dies.

  • @Antroid
    @Antroid 7 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    I wish Doug had included the rest of Joker's line about Batman's identity, where "It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic..." is followed by him pondering it for a second and then going "Ah what the heck, I'll laugh anyway!" That was the best part of the whole scene!

    I can’t believe critic left out the crushing part when after Tim shoots the Joker he breaks into a state of hysterical laughing only to fall to his knees wailing and crying uncontrollably as Barbara grabs hold of him and cradles him. Just shows how mentally destroyed Tim is and that this is something he will never recover from. It’s at this moment that both Batman and Batgirl realized that with his final sickening act, the Joker killed Robin (figuratively speaking).

      Mike P I thought it was good because it really opens the door for a story where Batman goes through some serious mental issues because he feels guilty he wasn’t able to save this persons life. It’s because batman believes in redemption, and not murder because that eliminates the possibility of getting this sick person help.
      And Arkham knight could’ve worked joker in as a hallucination induces by fear gas rather than “oh I’m the joker because I have his blood and that’s stupid.”

      @@insertclevernamehere92 But why not have the Joker just be a part of his consciousness, and leave it to the imagination how real he is? That would be more symbolic of Batman's psyche, and you could leave out a majority of the Joker plot line. Seriously, they should have focused on Hush and Scarecrow in that game, maybe have Red Hood and Joker on the side.

    • @insertclevernamehere92
      @insertclevernamehere92 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleverpsyche115 That would be awesome, the Joker part at least. if you're going to tackle Red Hood, then you have to make him a main part. Fans of the character would riot otherwise... honestly I would be one of them. Hush shouldn't have been in the game. He's always been a main enemy. You don't make him a side or co villain, plus he would clash with the Scarecrow story line if they made him more important. Setting him up in Arkham City was fine... but I feel that how they handled him in Arkham Knight was insulting to the character.

    it has a particularly brutal leadup involving two Batman characters. and what happens is rather fitting both with the characters and the narrative going on.

      One thing I find Critic misses about this death is the in story symbolism they maintain in the censored and uncensored versions. In the uncensored version, the first person we see Joker kill in the future is with the same bang flag gun effect, symbolizing Tim's connection to the future Joker. In the censored version Batman finally beats the Joker in the future by similarly electrocuting him, taking the entire future tale full circle. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

    The “censored” version of the jokers death seems more terrifying then the uncensored one. Robin throwing the gun and fighting the joker makes it more intense because he is trying to protect Batman with what little good consciousness he has. As Robin and joker wrestle with each other I fear for robins own safety. When Robin pushes him towards the electrical equipment, the frustration on jokers face makes me believe he is going to hurt Robin. The look of being drenched with water with that angry look on his face is terrifying. When he finally slips from the water and tries to catch himself, his cry from the unexpected realization of his inevitable death by his own hand echoes through my mind. The electricity outside signifying the intense pain he must have felt. Although we do not see his body “die” we are left to wonder how he looked like which only makes it all the more horrifying. This making it traumatizing for Robin seeing an electrocuted joker body rather than the version of him being shot. I think the so called “censored” version of the death was indeed more petrifying then the uncensored one. The jokers LOUD CRY doesn’t make it any easier to take in.
