Despite topping Group C, England's lack of creativity attracted boos from sections of their support for the second successive game. Reacting to the match, some fans called on Gareth Southgate to be sacked or resign, with one saying he 'should resign as soon as possible … the team that we have we should not be playing like that'. One supporter, however, acknowledged the weight the team carries around major tournaments, saying: 'When we go home there is a lot of hate on the players - there's big, big pressure on their shoulders.'

I see loads of people online claiming that only England fans and media are harsh on their managers and players. These must be people who have never left the UK, because other Europeans are much harsher. European outlets like L'Equipe are notorious for how brutal they are.

Domenech at least beat some massive teams during his tenure. That 06 run he defeated Spain, Brazil and Portugal. Southgate only has 1 'scalp' in his tenure - beating an average Germany at home in the Euros. Domenech is miles better.

I'm not going to defend or attack Southgate just because, but football indeed is an unfair sport. When the team wins it's the players, when they start losing it's the coach. I remember when Ten Haag for example was praised worldwide at Ajax, now at Man United he's a meme. Same with Pocchetino at Tottenham. Why does nobody mention the players lack of performance in the first place? Is it always the tactical line ups or the motivational speeches at the locker room the elephant in the room? Is it Southgate fault that a player like Bellingham suddenly thinks he's Maradona and doesn't perform according to the expectations? I'm not even an england fan, on the contrary I want you to lose even on friendlies.

Because they were ranked favourites for the tournament, have one of the best young players in the world who's also Real Madrid's champions league winning star player at 10, Bayern's striker up top, and a team of league and cup-winning talent. With the side we have, we easily a top team and should do a lot better than 10 men behind the ball holding on for 90 mins against Iceland, Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia

Some of you commenters have no idea why England fans are annoyed. This team should be playing exciting football, we have the midfield and attacking talent the best I have seen for 30 years and we doing NOTHING with it. Time and time again we are scraping a 1-0 or drawing 0-0/1-1. Most of us wouldn't care if we lost 6-5 if we played how we all believe we can play. This is all down to one man and his management team. This is why we are annoyed.

I’ve been rooting for England for as long as I can remember. But British blokes can be quite obnoxious sometimes. Just because you’re English team, doesn’t mean you’re entitled for greatness and victory. You think your nation has top players, other nations do too, maybe even better. You think your team worked hard and has top resources, well guess what all other nations worked harder and smarter. Just accept the reality of the situation and accept that your players are not that great, your standards are delusional and they’re not as high as you think they are. You’re not entitled for anything. The first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one. Just brush it off and move on.
