The recording engineer on this stunning album was a gentleman at Abbey Road Studios in London by the name of Alan Parsons, and in 1976 he started a partnership with producer Eric Woolfson that became known as The Alan Parsons Project, recording concept albums with session musicians and singers. My first introduction to them was the album and title track Eye In The Sky, or you could start with The Raven from their first album, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination - Edgar Allan Poe.

To me it seems weird to read lyrics while listening to music, especially if hearing a song for the first time. It detracts from the spontaneity of the listening experience. Maybe I'm the weird one, because most reactions seem to do it. But I much rather just hear the lyrics as they are sung. With good music, you are meant to be lost in the moment as you experience it, it seems to me. So it's hard for me to understand why anybody would want to listen to music that way, while reading ahead in the lyrics.

Your friend Bev totally got it and was visibly enthralled - I seriously suggest "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which is sooo beautiful she is going to be utterly mesmerized & happy, in a musical hypnotic state of pure bliss ! [ I'm deadly serious ! ] - The song is dedicated to their close friend & founder of Pink Floyd - Syd Barrett without whom there would be no Pink Floyd. He took too much LSD and became lost in his own mind for years in a mental institution. He was a beautiful young man. During recording that song, he turned up after many years, literally just stood in the doorway, a sad shadow of himself barely recognizable and a total shock to the group. The lyrics depict this. The whole album is basically dedicated to Sid, & 'Shine On' ....is the opening track. Sid has since sadly passed away. [ Listen to the song "See Emily Play" - It was a hit single with Sid on vocals ]

I have this album cover etched above my name on my black marble headstone. To me, it shows you coming into life, represented by the pyramid, as a narrow; clean; pure beam of colorless light. You enter life heading upward. You pass through life, picking up life experiences along the way. You then leave life, heading downward. The rainbow shows all the different experiences, represented by the different color's. Also, the brighter the color's, the brighter the life you had. I'm 62 and dying of Cancer, so my color's are already set. Loved to see two ladies enjoying what brought me so much happiness all my life. "Dark Side of The Moon" was the first album I ever bought, and I still have it. I was 14 in 1973! God, just to do it again! But, we all know it ends...

You're right. The members of Pink Floyd were really young at the time (Wright and Waters were born in 1943, Mason in 1944 and Gilmour in 1946). It's unbelievable how they wrote the lyrics and made great music. It's phenomenal! Listen to their work and you will surely become their fans. Every song has something to say ...

Bands like Pink Floyd will live on just like Mozart, and Beethoven. Instead of using symphonies it will be bands performing the catalogues of all the usual suspects. As we all know it’s happening already. There are quite a few bands out there bringing quality productions to stages around the world.

Today's mysteriouso quiz question is how can two young ladies interested in music reach the age of "29-Again" without having this album in their record collection already? I'm completely dumbfounded. One of my first vinyl purchases as soon as I got my hands on my student grant money in 1980, along with Beatles, ELO, and Fleetwood Mac, and quite a few others. Better open that second bottle of wine for me - things always make more sense after the second one! Glad you both loved it.

One of the best selling albums of all "time", for good reason. DSotM stayed on the charts for years longer than any other album. 68 now, I was 20 when it came out. Album rock on the radio at that "time" meant that it often got played start to finish, as it was meant to be experienced. Today, people's attention spans are just too short. Very few people give anything enough "time".

It has continued to sporadically appear on the Billboard 200 since then, with the total at 958 weeks on the chart as of July 2021"....."One in every fourteen people in the US under the age of 50 is estimated to own, or to have owned, a copy."

The main theme of this album being: “WHAT DRIVES PEOPLE CRAZY”, guides the interpretation of each song.
(BREATHE); If the performance required in life can drive people crazy.
(ON THE RUN); If the frantic rush of life can drive people crazy.
(TIME); If the fleeting aspect of passing time can drive people crazy.
(THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY); If the inevitable end, (death) can drive people crazy.
(MONEY); If love, or lack of money can drive people crazy.
(US AND THEM); If the differences in class of people or the power grant to them can drive people crazy.
(ANY COLOR YOU LIKE); If the illusion of being able to choose can drive people crazy.
(BRAIN DAMAGE); If the many rules of life and all the previous points can drive people crazy.
(ECLIPSE); Since our influence in this world comes down to what is within our reach,
then even though the brightness of the sun may be eclipsed by the darkness of the moon.
But anyway, (I'll see you on the dark side of the moon).
