My late older bro bought this on the dreamcast. I used to be so scared, I'd boot it up when he was gone, watch the intro cutscene over and over, and get to the point where the first graveyard zombie appeared and turn it off. I did this over 50 times lol.
I remember playing RE1 for the first time when I was like 7 lol. My mum would take me too blockbusters. And I always remember seeing the game case cover and thinking that looks good but mum won't let me play. We'll one time I asked. She must of been paying attention and she let me hire for a weekend... well. My TV used to be next to my bed. I would sit on the floor with my back against the bed.... and that first cutscene of the zombie eating that guy. Gave me to scariest chill ill.never forget.. then I had to fight it LOL. OMG LOL. I'll never forget that moment!!! I turned the game off instantly ejected disc. And couldn't wait to get it back to blockbusters. I actually had to move my TV in my room so I didn't have to lean against my bed coz I used to think the zombie would crawl from behind and get Me 🤣🤣🤣 2 years later RE2 came out and I fell in love with the series since 👍
I did the same thing but with resident evil 2. I’d play up till the first licker watch the cut scene right after it drops from the ceiling I’d shut off the ps1. Boot it up again and start all over. Haha.
This would be a perfect game for the RE Engine remakes. Its story structure flows like the RE2 Remake, which did ruin the B scenarios but made it flow better. I feel if they do the Remake character improvements in this story it would be incredible. The only worry would be finally seeing Wesker in the RE Engine... because he is too iconic to change a thing!
This game for me was always like a second cousin you see at Christmas. "Man he's alright, and he's family. We should hang out more." But I always seem to invite RE3 to watch a hockey game instead.
Probably because second cousin CVX always has to bring little brother Steve with him. Steve isn’t a terrible little guy, just has a LOT of growing up and can be a bit irritating. And mom won’t let you not include him when he is over.
so i was just beginning to watch this on the twitch channel, and i got the notification for this video exactly when bawk said “you thought wrong” in the intro cutscene and it made me laugh
Funny story about CVX. I got the 2 part strategy guide from GamePro when I was a kid and I obsessively read it. Unfortunately I was never able to get the game until adulthood. And through all those years my memory kicked in and it helped me with the game some. Just a fun thing I remembered seeing this video =) love the content

I really like CVX but the story is not that great and has a distinctly ScoobyDoo-esque campyness compared to prior entries. The characters are not particularly likable except for Claire. The move to fully 3D (while necessary) makes the backgrounds lack the detail that make locations in 1, 2 & 3 very memorable. There are also several choices in game design that are questionable at best, of which I would include the Security Box (why not just make it a regular Item Box?), the amount of busywork & backtracking (which I wouldn't mind if the areas had additional shortcuts that you could unlock), the Moth corridor, the Plane Tyrant boss and the escape from Mutated Steve (the most glaring potential softlocks in the series). The game is good but its these things that leave a negative impression on a lot of people
the time between this and remake was 2 years crazy considering the difference in graphics i know backgrounds wouldn’t be as good anyways due to 3d vs pre rendered but all around it just shows how ahead of it’s time remake was to this day one of the more beautiful games
Just shows you what more powerful hardware can do the GameCube was considered a more powerful console than ps2 so it would easily outclass the Dreamcast
I just remember having to start this game from the start, because I got to the end and Claire had all the ammo and decent guns, so I couldn't beat the last baddie with Chris, literally no more bullets.
That happened to me on on my second attempt right after I beat Nosferatu. Claire had all my good guns because I didn’t realize I needed to put them in a chest. On my first attempt I had to start over because I ran out of ammo at the plane Tyrant fight smh. I believe this is the most difficult RE imo.
@@4dhumaninstrumentality789 aye that was pretty identical to me 😂 I think a lot of people fell victim to that on their first play through. Great game though.
Remember a friend of mine got stuck on last boss as well. None of us were smart enough to do multiple saves back then either lol. But in all honesty he was so mad and frustrated he got so far but couldn't finish without restarting
This game has some really unique ideas and designs, but the execution of most of it ranges from average to borderline comedic. It deserves a big remake more than any resident evil because it needs its pacing, story and characters given big changes to shed the general layer of awkwardness to everything. The music is great and some of the locations would be unforgettable in a proper visual update.
Thanks to you my girlfriend now is going through my favorite series with me everyday after work. I show her some moves and she asks how I know that and I lead her to you
I love Code: Veronica, probably my favorite classic game, but yes as a kid I got screwed over multiple times by the character swaps and it is really unforgivable that they didn't at least give a warning message or something
I miss the Dreamcast controllers, they were so comfortable. The memory card was also cool, basically they were mini handhelds based on the save files you had. I remember Sonic Adventure had a Pokemon like mini game to train your Chao in game.
Currently replaying on ps4 and watching this is making my run so much more optimal. I missed a few weapons that left me screwed by the time I got to the final fight, but now, I’ll be packing!
Code Veronica is what the average RE Hyperfan that has never stopped complaining about how RE4 ruined the franchise would say RE is "supposed" to be, and that's both good and very bad.
It was the soundtrack that always stuck with me - the track at 2:19:44 - _Suspended Doll_ - is up there with _Front Hall_ as the best in the franchise, for me.
Sorry Bawk, Wesker still plays a prominent role in the Dreamcast version - the only differences as far as I can tell in 'X' is some extra cutscenes across the wider game. Thanks for the review/playthrough, one of my favourite entries in the series.
Hey, Bawk! Long time TH-cam viewer, I don’t really visit twitch much right now. Love your stuff, and just wanted to say thanks for making content that takes me back to a simpler time. I have super high anxiety, and had a crazy mom. But one of the few consistent occasions we got along was when I would watch her beat different classic resident evil games, even though they scared the absolute shit outta me. It just helps me relax after a long day at work or when I’m stressing about adulthood. But, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Your genuine nature is always refreshing after a day of forced social anxiety for pay. Keep at it! I’ll be waiting on pins and needles for RE8! TLDR; you’re an awesome dude and keep doing what ya do!
My favorite classic RE! Not only is it the longest one but also combines more action-driven gameplay with the classic non-linear puzzle environment. RE3 is my second favorite but it got a bit too much focused on the action elements. Also, the knife in this game is amazing.
i am so glad i just bought this game. i cannot wait to play it for the first time. i wish they did static backgrounds though. the hd remastered version of resident evil 0/1 look so good still in 2022. using static backgrounds and static camera angles allow for the video game creator to make their game have the ability to stand the test of time. i wish this practice was still more wide spread in todays modern climate. imagine how amazing static backgrounds would look today with modern graphics? video games would have borderline photo realistic graphics. resident evil needs to make a return to this style of gameplay!!! it really only works for horror games, and this works so well for resident evil! they need to take advantage of this! fans would not be complaining i can tell you that for certain!
Thanks to hearing so many good things about the game from Bawk and a few others, I finally gave it a go. RE2, 3 and 4 were my fav in the franchise, CVX is definitely right up there with 'em now. While I absolutely hated the plane tyrant and final Alexia on a blind playthrough, gonna have to get the game on my ps4 and get on that max trophy grind. Keep doin whatcha doin Bawk! Always love your RE content!
Definitely my favorite Resident Evil. It got everything, enemy variety, great atmosphere, a ton of weapons, memorable characters, a nice story, and the best OST of the franchise. Steve's my favorite character of all the saga because I found it really lifelike and believable, in his best and worst elements. What a masterpiece of a game!
Little fun fact ... In CVX Steve gonna say about guns „these things are more reliable then any person“ - Claire is litterly Shocked... Many years after CVX on an prison island again in Revelations 2 Claire said the exactly same thing to Moira after picking up her first weapon. Any1 knows that Claire addicted to Steve in someway and cried about his death ... Revelation 2 should reminds the fans in the Moira scene when picking ur first gun that Capcom didn’t forgot Steve and Code Veronica.
Because.. RE4 was a best seller, it's the favorite game of many people, Code Veronica didn't like to much people and it was too far to be a best seller. Furthermore, Capcom likes money, so.. It answers your question? 🤣🤣
@@Mr.BobbleHead yeah but they could butcher it like they did Re3make and instantly go back to being Crapcom 4 ages like fine wine it didn't need a remake especially without Mikami I mean RE2 make only has the multiple route cause of fan demand.
Lol I was going to say, that ending is all the reason why Chris looked the way he did in RE5....this game is good, besides the gameplay stuff that could be fixed, this deserves a remake for sure.
glad for RE Veronica X as my first RE game, literally had a blast finishing it back in the day, hope the remake will come sooner or later maybe just right after RE4
This game is so great and criminally underrated! Definitely one of the best in the series and deserves more love! I have had so much fun playing this again recently and oh, Claire! 🥰
Spent the last two months playing the entirety of the mainlined RE franchise. (including the classics) Code Veronica and original 3 are the last two that I’ve yet to play. I’m fully aware of the hardships CV presents but I’m super stoked to experience it from a first time perspective!
BAWK! BAWK! BAWK! "Why are you putting butter in the pan!? It's non-stick! That's why it's called non-stick!" Fucking classic. This happens @ 02:40:08 - 02:40:37
I played it on DreamCast and I have played all of the RE titles. My very first favorite is RE3 Nemesis. Second is RE1 (both the OG and the remaster) and very close third is Code Veronica. LOVED this game.
An extinguishant is a substance used to put out a fire, such as water, chemical powders, or gases. The word "extinguishant" comes from the word "extinguish" and the suffix "-ant", which is used to form nouns and adjectives from verbs
As a kid this was one of my least favorite REs. Going back and playing it as an adult, it’s became one of my favorites. The soundtrack, the bonkers storyline, the weapons, locations, cast, difficulty. It’s a great title. The criticisms are legit but truly does a lot more right than what it does wrong.
Bawk, you mentioned rev1 not working for this marathon, but you did play through it like 7-8 months before this and you did bring up your thoughts so I would say that video counts. I'm not able to watch your live streams currently, but your TH-cam content is awesome.
I love Code Veronica because the knife was vastly improved and more accommodating to new players, the presentation of routing and enemy placement in this game made great use of the handgun/burst handgun that they dont feel obsolete when you find more weapons later in the game. If you play smart, you can use normal bow gun bolts to take out zombies that are simply hard to avoid because normal bow gun bolts are plenty in the game, you can use them to conserve ammo.
Code Veronica was my favorite RE for multiple reasons. I hope that if it gets a remake, they really play on the weird and creepy of the twins and the goddy opera dollhouse vibe. The ashfords are rich pampered lunatics. Alexia murdered her own father. They could do so much with them.
Seeing secondhand how generous the ammo is... Makes me want to replay this. Its been a few years. I have a ps2 copy and BC ps3.. 🍻 mostly cause i love the Raffica as a weapon. 🍻
Ah sick Code Veronica. I recently beat this game for the first time a month ago and I gotta say man this game is rlly fun although it will never take over the top 2 spots with Re3N and RE2R for me it definitely solidified itself for the 3rd best RE game of all time for me despite some of the soft locking that can happen (Final boss 🥲)
Great game and technically the last tank control game on a story perspective. I still listen to the OST to this day, great contender to best ost in the series. Now 1 complain of the game? Steve plain and simple 🤣, but I feel like he was fixed a bit on the Darkside retelling so it’s not a major complaint.
i agree. Code Veronice is among the best RE games. RE 1 remake and code veronica on top 1, top 2 RE 4 with RE 3 and RE 2 remake, then RE 2 and the rest. code veronica was my first RE game :-)
I always remember this game as being better than it is, and then when I replay it I'm constantly thinking "boy this section is really pooey" or "these enemies are so annoying/dumb" or "god just shut up Steve". I don't WANT to hate it but I can't really say I like it... Claire rocks though. But I'll never get over loaning out my copy of the Dreamcast version to my brother's friend and only getting disc 1 back :| Now I have two copies of CVX so it's fine... I guess. It's just the principle of the thing.
My late older bro bought this on the dreamcast. I used to be so scared, I'd boot it up when he was gone, watch the intro cutscene over and over, and get to the point where the first graveyard zombie appeared and turn it off. I did this over 50 times lol.

Something cool to note the tank mr ashford flips the switch on is a German tiger tank. Just in case anyone was interested!
Possibly my favorite of the classics, love this game
I love Code Veronica because the knife was vastly improved and more accommodating to new players, the presentation of routing and enemy placement in this game made great use of the handgun/burst handgun that they dont feel obsolete when you find more weapons later in the game. If you play smart, you can use normal bow gun bolts to take out zombies that are simply hard to avoid because normal bow gun bolts are plenty in the game, you can use them to conserve ammo.
One of my fav RE streamers.
Code Veronica had the best in game music for sure!
Code Veronica was my favorite RE for multiple reasons. I hope that if it gets a remake, they really play on the weird and creepy of the twins and the goddy opera dollhouse vibe. The ashfords are rich pampered lunatics. Alexia murdered her own father. They could do so much with them.
My favorite Resident Evil game! I'm super nostalgic for this game. We wont get games made like this again.
Such a Dope game to this day. Great video.
I had no idea the helicopter shooting the windows and the dropping the gun thing in the second movie were from this 😧
If Steve was played by a Japanese anime girl, that "Nyaaah, help me!" would've been way more fun.
Seeing secondhand how generous the ammo is... Makes me want to replay this. Its been a few years. I have a ps2 copy and BC ps3.. 🍻 mostly cause i love the Raffica as a weapon. 🍻
Man, the home movie of the Ashfords to this day is perfectly burned into my memory, it's SUCH a scene lmao
That's because you are a cuck 😆 man everywhere I find you, people don't like anything you say 😂 I wonder why...
@chandllerburse737 you having 2 dads 😆
@chandllerburse737 a mom is STILL BETTER THAN 2 dads chump 😎
I was there when this was live. I love this game. I have the soundtrack on vinyl
I can't wait for the remake, had this for dreamcast its one of the best
Yo Bawk, Veronica does have the best Save Room music
I remember buying it to get the Devil May Cry demo (it completely blew me away).
Oh no i missed the live stream because sleep 😭😭😭 this is one of my faves! 😭
I never finished this game. Maybe I'll try it out sometime! Thanks for the upload!
This needs a remake so bad.
Been waiting for this one. Love CVX. Nobody streams this one because let’s be honest. It’s a long game. Thank you!!
My favorite Resident Evil game. I love how long this game was. They really didn't half-ass it.
Say what you want about the opening, Claire is still fucking iconic.
Thanks Bawk, into a graveyard shift tonight lol
Code Veronica, great one 😍. Btw, would you upload Leon B from RE2 OG and Remake?
Damn wesker really bullied chris in this game
I was definitely one of the lucky players who had enough guns and ammo when i switched over to chris' part, still one of my fav RE's ❤
the game has such a cool seting, looks really great
Great game and technically the last tank control game on a story perspective.
"I'm playing on the PS3 emulator because half eaten food items are scattered in this area" DED
