That’s what I said! No one before or after the late 90s & early 2000s got pops like Steve Austin did! If you weren’t there & didn’t watch it then, you don’t know! Dude needs to research better!
This is always what comes to mind for WWE pops. I was so captivated by the Millennium countdown and had no clue about Jericho coming, but that roar was amazing.
^ This. I just rewatched it and it was the first time I ever cried watching any wrestling event. I certainly hope there will be a moment that can be better than that, but I highly doubt it. Maybe when someone, hopefully Cody, will finally beat Reigns for his titles.
I was there that night and i remember when thw pyro went iff and it was quiet. Everyone was confused. But once the music drop i remember everyone jumping up and a shitload of popcorn going into the air
Stone Cold coming out to help Mankind win his first world title was brilliant. Brilliantly written, brilliantly performed. The timing by everyone couldn't have been better and that Worcester crowd was insane. Best pop there ever was and ever will be.
@@kennyshaw1042 Tony Schiavone. And yes, Bischoff directed Schiavone to "spoil" Mankind's win (because that match had been pre-recorded). The announcement had the exact opposite effect, however, as hundreds of thousands of Nitro viewers switched over to Raw.
Edges return was the most heartfelt for me, was the first time a wrestler of my time of watching made a big return like that. I wasn't old enough to see some of the older wrestlers in their day, so their returns didn't hit me as much. So Edge was the first time I seen a wrestler from my childhood comeback, the nostalgia hit HARD, hard to the fact after stopping watching WWE for years i started watching it again
Me too fam. Ima 95 baby so I missed some of the attitude era. 99 and 2011 were my days. Batista, Rey, Eddie, the evolution ,Cena etc. I actually teared up watching his return clip on TH-cam. I stopped watching wrestling at the same time he retired. I still remember when he made the announcement.
The chemistry between Austin and Vince was a huge part of what used to make wrestling great for me. I haven't kept up with wrestling since around 2010 but I LOVED watching it growing up.
The Edge return at the Royal Rumble was the greatest reaction. Edge himself said in a later interview that his emotions always show on his face, and they are genuine. Stepping out after 9 years to a crowd like that couldn't have been anymore amazing
Triple h coming back from his first injury was up there for biggest pop ever but tbh nobody anytime soon is beating the edge pop on his comeback that was spine tingling and just absolutely amazing
The only loudest crowd I ever heard the most was when Stone Cold ran into the ring, hit The Rock with a steel chair and help Mankind win the WWF Championship. That's classic right there 🤣🤣🤣
There are so many loud crowd reactions that are missing here: - Rock vs Hogan WM18 - Hardy Boys return on Wrestlemania 2017/2018 - Ryback turned heel on Cena - Fandango on Raw post Wrestlemania 29 - Same night from 2 above, Dolph Ziggler’s MITB cash in damn that was loud!!! - Zack Ryder’s US Title win - AJ Styles WWE debut and his heel turn on Cena - Triple H return in 2002 - Kurt Angle return in 2003 that was spectacular - Randy Orton booed on One Night Stand 06 - Crowd hating on Cena same ONS 06
Triple H returning from his quad tear back in 2002 (I think it was 2002) and Edge coming out to tag with Rey and Dominik in the first SmackDown back in front of live crowds after the pandemic. Those are the 2 loudest pops I've ever heard. When the one with Edge happened it was so loud I thought something was wrong with my TV. And the crazy thing was, neither one of them was a surprise - the crowd KNEW they were coming out. And they still popped HUGE.
I'll give Cena credit. He was the first surprise return at the Rumble, and the trend has continued ever since making the Rumble a MUST SEE event every year.
That Stone Cold pop was on a different level to all the others and there was many other pops like that in the attitude era for both Rock and Austin. What amazes me is nobody puts on the list Hulk Hogan in Montreal. I’ve never seen anything like it to this day
Chris Jericho’s WWE debut was definitely a stand-out, I remember. It was interesting to me because they hasn’t formally announced him coming and only alluded to it through mysterious “Y2J”s showing up on the Titantron with the countdown music/timer. And yet somehow everyone knew by then. It was the early days of the internet. Before Facebook and MySpace even. But forums and chat rooms existed and people talked and shared gossip and e-newsletters, and a whole lot of fans became smart to the business/smarks. Jericho was stupidly buried in the midcard for years while he was in WCW, but he got way over because of his hilarious character work and mic skills. Particularly with the smarks. His debut pop was one of the subtle indicator the world was changing because of the internet, pre anything we’d called “social media.” It’s how I realized just how much of the pro-wrestling fan base are smarks. And it was legitimately louder than anything I could’ve anticipated and shocking even at a time when Austin and the Rock were in their prime and getting crazy pops every night as they were driving the most memorable era of pro-wrestling history.
That said I suspect the surprise Austin return pop where he stunned the Rock and gave Foley his first world title while reigniting his strangely over feud with Vince was probably a bigger pop.
Hulk Hogan on Raw after Wrestlemania 18 was the loudest ever. They wouldn’t stop screaming. They had to shorten it for TV because apparently the people in the crowd said it went on for about 17 minutes. Not just a crowd pop but they would not stop cheering and people were doing the worship thing with their arms all through the arena. It was a standing ovation and a pop at the same time. The whole arena was chanting “Hogan Hogan Hogan”. The announcers even stood up.
My gosh that Dudley’s appearance really was so cool. Three of the rumble returns were so daing amazing and definitely in the top ten here. Cena, Edge, and Rey were amazing. Austin helping Mick to get the title and Bryan’s title win were probably the top 5
I was at the Raw when The Rock Returned as the host for wrestlemania. I couldn’t help but tear up to see one of my childhood favorite wrestlers come out after many years. The energy in that arena was incredible
And the fact he wasn’t supposed to come back for a min made it even more epic. Cause he got injured some months before right? I remember something with his shoulder
When the Rock came back to WWE in Feb 2011 and cut a 20-something minute promo. The moment he walked out I think is still the biggest pop I've ever heard for a single moment in WWE history.
The Dudleyz coming back just to show people "wassup." Like a lot of these pops are for top of the company, solo legends. But that Dudleyz pop shows just how highly fans hold those two.
Every Monday night during Attitude era, announcers had to literally yell the whole time because crowd was always so hot and loud. Now you are lucky to have that sort of pop once a year.
And it's usually if someone from those times returns...competition between WCW and WWE created great shows...when the competition went away the WWE got lazy...but really what killed it is when they went pg...boring
That pop for stone cold and mick was incredible. I remember watching that match on the tv, losing my mind as a kid and even at home it was electrifying. it was like i was at the arena. Those truly were the golden days.
These are some of the greatest reactions, but you also gotta include Ziggler MITB cash in, and AJ Styles Debut. Those are probably the two loudest crowd reactions of the last decade.
Have you seen Kane's? It's even better in my opinion. They hyped him for months with Paul Bearer warning Undertaker of Kane's imminent appearance. But whole PPVs went by and nothing - we had no idea when it would happen. Then he comes out during what was already itself a top 10 match of all time, the first Hell in a Cell with Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels, rips the door off the cell and helps Shawn. Then he spends the next few months just destroying everyone he sees, showing up randomly to matches just to chokeslam and Tombstone everyone. My brother, 8 years old, literally thought Kane came from hell it was so good.

I remember when Jericho 1st came to the WWF you knew it was all but the nail in the coffin for the WCW once all their great talent started jumping ship
I’ll never forget Y2J countdown. I was following it from WCW to WWF. I loved JJ as a WCW Heel. Also, even though it wasn’t loud, I was mentally loud was Razor Ramone’s first appearance. The buildup was so awesome for a 10 year old.
Most of the loudest reactions should be from 1998-2006. A few examples, undertaker returning as american badass, stone cold winning at wrestlemania vs shawn michaels, edge cashing his money in the bank vs john cena, stone cold winning back the wwf title on raw after losing to kane the night before (first blood match), hulk hogan vs the rock at wrestlemania (whole match was loud). I could go on and on because that time had the best crowd reaction and storylines.
Loudest pop of all time was Stone Cold on RAW in 99 when he came out and placed Mick Foley's body over the Rock. Gives me chills to this day.

Also, even though it wasn’t loud, I was mentally loud was Razor Ramone’s first appearance. The buildup was so awesome for a 10 year old.
Hardy Boyz returning for wrestle mania was hands down the loudest I've ever heard.
