    Hint; use psychology to fool animals you are hunting into not fleeing away from you by moving to their side in a parallel line to make them think you are not after them. The idea is to make them think you are going past them after something else and then, when you get close enough, you just suddenly turn into them. You will be able to get closer faster and easier.

    Just curious, we went deep sea fishing and within minutes of hooking some yellowtail we had reef sharks coming after them on the lines. How do you handle that as you spear the fish and that blood scent trail starts bringing in sharks?? Do you keep fishing or call it a day immediately?

    Ego aside, what is the evaluation of the outboard? That would drive me nuts driving that slow for any distance especially with gear.

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'll be doing a review in about a month or so. Realistically, this outboard more than adequately replaces and outperforms a 5hp or less gas motor with an integrated gas tank. If you want to go farther and get on plane a bigger gas outboard is still the way to go, although epropulsion does have more powerful motors that'll get on plane as well. I'd love to test one of those out at some point.

    Nice episode guys.
    Just curious, are electric motors common over there now? I noticed Kirk & Lauren had the same (similar?) kind, and a couple of the other channels (eg Uma) have them now too.
    Is it just that I'm watching channels with like minded people or are they common now?

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're getting a little more common, but I think it has to do with the like-mindedness of some TH-camrs. 99% of dinghy outboards are still gas.

    • @jacknimble1
      @jacknimble1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never see them on the coast of New England. Can't see using one in a 15knot head wind with 2 people and gear aboard. This is not a referendum on the choice of power but I would be nervous being any distance away from my boat with that little motor in an unprotected area for fear that the wind really picks up and I would have to fight a head sea back.

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacknimble1, the little electric outboard is just as powerful as a 5hp gas motor. The battery gets about 10-15 miles of range and we frequently go to shore in 20+ knot headwinds and it performs great.

    otherwise, great video. thanks for the good footage

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do shoot a few fish sometimes and reload the spear with the fish still on it. It still shoots fine and I end up with like two or three fish on the same line. I won't take any fish off until it's been fired though and isn't loaded.

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The boat came with two lockers. The main chain locker is forward of that shallow secondary anchor locker you're talking about. It's just a hawse hole the chain goes down in and collects forward of the V Berth. We use the secondary locker for storing the anchor bridle and extra line. This was one thing we haven't modified :)

      We’re not vegetarians, though we do end up eating vegetarian most of the time, because a high-produce/low-meat diet feels better for us; and when we do consume animal products we try to make sure they’re humanely and sustainably raised, which aren’t easy to come by.

  • @bunyipdan
    @bunyipdan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You guys do things a little different, not sure about how you have rigged your spear tether line, can't imagine thats the best way, perhaps next time you speak to an experienced spearo they can give you a few pointers......like tightening your spearhead ;)
    Certainly no problems taking smaller fish as long as they are legal, you know what you are shooting and you show restraint, one of the best elements of spearfishing is "selective harvest". Keep on with the good times, Cheers.

    • @LearningtheLines
      @LearningtheLines  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a spearfishing newbie for sure. I got that speargun for 50 bucks on craigslist and it's been OK for now. It came rigged like that, so I've been using it as is, but I'm learning what I might like and might not like so that I can make an informed decision about a good speargun for me in the future.

    • @bunyipdan
      @bunyipdan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LearningtheLines all good mate, we all start some where........your tether line (the line that connects your spear to your speargun) needs to be changed. With it spiraled like that you run a high risk of entanglement, in the least it may cause you to miss......at worst it will tangle when you shoot and cause the spear to sling straight back into you. Re rig with some very heavy duty mono leader or 3mm braided cord at least 6 x gun length and utilise your quick line release tab (usually found somewhere around the trigger mechanism/handle).
      Happy hunting
