The Gingerbreads in Germany usually have a wafer on the bottom not icing it might have icing on top though. That's because the gingerbread cookies were originally made by monks in a church and so the wafer used is like the wafer you get if you go to church in the US and take Communion ,the wafer that's the body of Christ . You guys look like you're having so much fun over there in Germany at Christmas time . Great video guys , keep'em coming . Bye ,bye !
Wow, what a rad history! It’s crazy how many foods we’ve tried in our travel that come from monks. Alyssa said it tasted like the church wafer from communion but we didn’t leave it in the final edit! Thanks for watching, we had a blast at the 3 markets we visited in Germany. Headed to Prague next!
Thanks for the tips on the video! I'll be there next Christmas season. Last year I was at the Berlin, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg markets. I haven't had schashlik for years and I'll be certain to get it there!
Totally! That was Alyssa’s favorite food from our 3 German Christmas markets we visited. I liked the hand bread in Berlin. Though to find currywurst in the us too!
What a fun video! I went to this Christmas market when I lived in Germany way back in 1977. It looks like it's way bigger now that it was back then. Your video makes me want to go again!
We're having so much fun, it's a tough job but somebody has to do it 😂! Thanks for joining us, we have another one from Munich coming out in a few days. Going to do our best to get all the markets up by Christmas.
This was a good reminder. I love Schaschlik and I haven't had one for a long time. Now I am on a hunting mission. 😁😎 If I am not mistaken, Schaschlik is a Hungarian classic.
It kind of had a little goulash style to it! We are in Riga now and have already filmed Munich and Prague, Alyssa was saying that was her favorite thing she’s eaten in the trio so far! I think my favorite was the Hand Bread in Berlin. We will have to mention our favorites at the final Christmas market!
Thanks so much for the kind words! We had originally planned to just do food tours in the cities but thought it would be fun to make Christmas videos! It truly has been the most memorable trip so far! We will see you in a few days with another $50 in Munich!❤️🎄🇩🇪
Wow! That was an amazing video! You guys ate all of my favorite foods at one of my favorite Christmas Markets! My mouth was watering watching Brandon eating the Nurnberger sausages. Hope you guys are having as much at the markets as we are watching you. Merry Christmas! Looking forward to the Munich video!!
Thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed! We had the best time filming this one. We were going over our favorite foods so far and mine was the hand bread in Berlin and Alyssa’s was the Schashlick skewer at the end of this one, it was so unexpected.
These “Fleischküchle”, also known as Frikadellen, have been around in Germany since the 17th century. German emigrants brought them to the USA, from which hamburgers originated. yummie "Shashlik" means skewered, and came to us from the Turkic peoples.
Oh cool! Thanks for this awesome history of these foods! Those were two of our favorite bites at the Nuremberg Christmas market! We will dream about them when we head back to the US

We freaking loved it there! The Christmas market was the busiest but you could still get around. Such a cool old city we fell in love. Didn’t film it but we also went to the medieval market in Furth! So cool!
Thanks so much for clarifying, that’s why it was so unexpected because it was a different thing entirely!😂 Thank you for the help and Merry Christmas!❤️🎄🇩🇪
Hi guys, OMG! Everything looks so delicious! Ship the cookies ASAP please! I’m so glad you two are having a wonderful time.. you both look so happy, and I love.. Alyssa’s beautiful smile, although she’s freezing! Please be safe, and continue on.. XOXOXO
Thanks so much! The weather has been ok with all our gear but we just landed in Riga and it was FREEZING last night. Somehow we are going to miss the snow!
It’s such an awesome atmosphere! Nürnberg is such an old magical city. The Christmas market was almost an afterthought because we enjoyed the city so much.
We bet! We have been getting a lot of hate that people say the European Christmas Markets are too expensive. We are tempted to make a stop over just to show how crazy it is in the states. We have one in San Diego, our hometown, that is such a money grab. We might share when we get back from Tallin.
@@HeresGoodTravel Regarding the prices shown in Chicago, I wondered whether the sales tax was already included or whether it would be added on top. Then the quantities of roasted almonds, for example, were only indicated in small, medium and large without giving the exact weight. Incidentally, the large portion cost over 20 dollars.😳 PS: Tallinn used to have the German name Reval until about a hundred years ago. There is still a brand of cigarettes with this name.
One of the 10 most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany is undoubtedly in Sankt Wendel in Saarland with stalls you've never seen before: medieval market, elf market, and normal Christmas market. Some say it's the most beautiful of all.
Thanks for the recommendation. Since this was our first time in Germany we stuck to larger cities we’ve always wanted to visit. Munich is next. We did stay in Fürth and visited their medieval market and it was so cool! We will add this market to our list, next time we visit we promise to get to some smaller less commercialized markets. Merry Christmas!
@ the market is only open for 14 days. It will close next week because half of the midtown is covered 😊 when you‘ll visit it, try to avoid the weekends. There come many busses from Germany, France, Luxemburg with tourists.
Paprika!!! I think that was it, we were thinking Turmeric but paprika sounds right! Somebody else mentioned those skewers originated in Hungary so the paprika would make too much sense
🙌 haha no doubt! Crazy it’s that cold. We are headed to the market in Riga rn and it’s not even that cold, we weee hoping to get some snow. Maybe in Tallin
Oh nooo! We did see them but have not gotten them yet! Alyssa actually isn’t a big fan, but I love them! We will keep an eye out for a stand at our next Christmas market! Thanks for the reminder
My dear Weihnachtsmarkt-Couple, Weihnachtsmaerkte in Deutschland are definitly not cheap, they are very expensive. So I can't afford it anymore and must watch youtube.😢 🎉 Anyway .... hohoho and Merry Christmas! 🎉
Thanks so much! Our kinda mission with this Christmas market tour is to see just how far the money goes. We have been visiting Christmas markets since 2014 and the prices now compared to then are just crazy. We are just hoping to share some Christmas cheer and drink all the mulled wine we can find😂. Thanks again for watching and commenting
50€ for one person: good unless you are planning to spend all day on the market andchavexall meals there. For both: Enough to take a stroll, browse the stands but not buy more than a postcard, a srinknsnd a snack each. What makeshift extremely expensive is going with children…
We spent $50 for both of us- including 3 drinks and 4 sandwiches/ food items and 1 dessert- we shared all of it and it was plenty! We don’t buy souvenirs, but I can imagine it would get expensive with children. We’ve enjoyed doing this Christmas series and have found $50/€50 is a decent amount to eat and drink in multiple places in Europe! Thanks for watching!
Definitely not speculaas! We love speculaas when in the neatherlands- this is less sweet, more chewy, and much more texture, maybe even a bit nutty- it’s missing that sweet, cinnamon flavor. It was unique but I’d take speculaas over lebkuchen anyday! Thanks for watching!
Haha for americans everythink is cheap on that Market😂. For german locals is very expensive. I was in San diego ans i felt like a homeless, because everything was expensive to me
We are from San Diego! The Christmas market near our home cost $32 just to ENTER!! It’s a ticketed event just to see the stalls and lights- no food or drinks with that ticket- crazy! We noticed the prices definitely going up in Europe the last few years. Thanks for watching and commenting, next time you’re in San Diego let us known
lol no doubt. Although it’s much more expensive than the markets used to be we have been pleasantly surprised that we were able to leave each market full and with a Christmas buzz going😂🥳🎄
Thanks! We need so much help with our German😂. We got two awesome pork sandwiches at the Munich market but neither were schwein steak. They had crispy pork skin on them and were freaking delicious. Thanks for watching, merry Christmas and cheers!

Obviously most cities, especially better know ones, have an English version. That's even similar for the German language e.g. with many Italian cities. But if you wanna know a correct pronunciation, you can ask Sandra Bullock. She grew up mainly in Nuremberg. :)

Feuerzangenbowle is not a Nürnburg specialty it is common all over Germany and made popular by a German Movie from 1944 called "Die Feuerzangenbowle"
Amazing, good to know! We got another one in Munich that they flamed it for us individually instead of the big pot.
The name is gingerbread schmidt from Nürnberg.
Such a great stand
Are you going to Dresden striezelmarkt?
Noo😫! We have it saved though. We did Berlin and Munich and made it to the medieval market in Furth. Maybe next year!
This almond cookie looks similar to an "American" pastry at the bakery, which is tasty too.
True!
Since when is speculatius gingerbread???
Next market Straßburg 😊
Mushrooms are popular at these markets. They come with a herbal sauce as well.
We thought that was so interesting! We loved them, the garlic and onion flavor were so strong and the mushrooms just soaked up the sauce🤤
I want to go there myself.

Guan Yu spent time in Germany. He fell for a Slavic with blue eyes. A well known historical fleecer.

This burger is a pork steak. So it is premium meat.
We weren’t sure if it was beef, pork or a combination. We don’t have anything like that back home, we might try to make a recipe when we get back.
