  • President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, yesterday, November 18, 2023, inspected and assessed the readiness of various infrastructure projects ahead of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 (G-77) +China Third South summits.
    Uganda will host the two summits from 15th-23rd January 2024 at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala.
    NAM will run under the theme: “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” whereas the Third South summit will focus on “Leaving No One Behind”.
    The President was accompanied by the First Daughter, Mrs. Natasha Karugire and top government officials led by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the Head of Public service and Chairperson of the National Organizing Committee of NAM and G-77 summits, Ms. Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye, the Minister of State for Works and Transport, Hon. Musa Ecweru and the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ms. Dorothy Kisaka.
    During the President's tour, a variety of infrastructure projects were inspected, including but not limited; the transportation system (Mukwano road, the Clock Tower Interchange, Kampala-Gaba Road, Wavamunno Road, Salama Road & the Busabala Interchange), Speke Resort Munyonyo and Entebbe International Airport.
    This comprehensive examination showcased the determination of the government to enhance the efficiency and quality of vital infrastructure services.
    Throughout the inspections, the President interacted with local communities, workers, and project stakeholders, acknowledging their contribution and valuable input.
    President Museveni emphasized the significance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure projects meet the needs and aspirations of the people they serve.
    At Speke Resort Munyonyo, the President was shown around the modern multipurpose Convention Center which has facilities such as the high-end conference meeting rooms, and a 4,000 -seater auditorium.
    While visiting the airport facility, Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, the Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority informed the President that they have upgraded the facility with the latest CCTV camera technology.
    Mr. Bamwesigye also informed the President that the new terminal is twice the capacity of the old one at 20,000 square meters and is expected to take in more than three million passengers per year.
    He also mentioned that the cargo centre has a capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes citing that its quantity is steadily increasing.

    The culture of cleaning roads in uganda is really missing.
    Look at a road which is newly constructed but looks like 5yrs old. Wondering when will these contractors ever do something beautiful😢😢. I think even the president sometimes become confused with their shoddy work

    Let's be frank and realistic. Kampala roads are far from being beautiful. The current flyover construction project is a very small percentage of roads in Kampala city that require TOTAL overhaul and reconstruction😏

    • @dang9313
      @dang9313 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's even too small and disconnected to the real traffic problems. They're firefighting a 10yr old problem yet they should be fixing a 20yr future challenge. This is the prob of our planners. A flyover isn't going to solve the problem. Actually you'll need more. Even with more you'll have the same jamlock. You just need a modern transport system period. Benchmark developed cities and you will learn.

    To many motorcycles in the city, that alone creates traffic congestion. It is unbelievable that no one in this government for years has cared on how the capital city looks. The city is full of dust to many old builds that have not been renovated and too many slams around Kampala. Is there no one in the government that can think of planting grass on side of the pavements so that when it rains all the dirt won't wash away in the city roads!!!. By now they should have grass planted around the city streets where there are no pavements. The city should have a sprinkle system to keep the vegetation green all year around. This is 2023 and Kampala does not have sprinkle system!!!. The first sprinkle system was installed at Theater Royal in 1812, that's 211 years, but Kampala still does not have one and it is almost 2024. The government can create a lot of infrastructure jobs by just rebuild all Ugandan cities. Uganda needs leadership that has vision and cares about the people. Just look next door at your neighbor Rwanda. Rwanda is ten times small than Uganda, has less natural resources than Uganda, less population, and had genocide that left the whole country devastated but their leader in twenty years has transformed the country to a developing nation. Kigali is among the three cleanest cities in the whole world. That's why not many Rwandans will complain that he over stayed. You can tell that Rwanda has a working government. The capital city is what the outsiders look at before they can think of investing in a country, tourists look at the capital city before making a decision to visit a country and so many other business ventures. The president has traveled to many developing and developed countries, the list he could have done in his 38 years in power is to leave the presidency as the one who built the capital city to modern standards.

      Who is that who will build the city as u want? All these major cities and developed countries were not just developed in 30yrs. These countries have had resources from the beginning I think it's unfair to compare them with uganda. We need to appericiate what we have or achieved and learn to take one at a time. In the 80s and 90s kampala was worse than what it is looking today. I can relate this to someone born around 1985 has now started his or her family, work etc after university and he will develope in stage etc that is the same thing with our regime it had to go through alot. When they came they had to start from nursery school. The only thing I feel is wrong is the killing of people. This is totally wrong government should work to see that we all have security and a right to live, it is quite inhuman for some people to wake up and just decide to take others lives quite backward and primitive in our society. Infact it is ashaming as much as we're feeling proud of some achievements here and there the absuse of people's lives messes up all the beauty / developments , security we are proud of and achieved.
