That is how you adjust it. You remove the cables and then reattach. That takes the tension off cable and it sets down in correct place. That is the adjustment. You have to do it to understand if you can see how it is adjusted in video.
@@nixeighty6 you may have a bad clutch fork. They break a lot. Mine was broken, I did the clutch and fly wheel. My friends helper put in the throw out bearing without checking fork, had to pull trans down a second time to replace a $35 fork. That what happens when you let a 20 year old do things without checking their work. Lol
@@brokenbigboytoys5391 why would that maybe be a broken clutch fork? I can "feel" the teeth of 3 it just won't stay in.. and 24r are pretty well in the middle of the shifter. Thanks for advice and insight.. this is just a project beater for me. The guy I bought it from did just replace the clutch
@@nixeighty6 when you cannot find gears that seems to be the issue that it does not fully engage the clutch. Do some research on your issue and you may find a lot of guys have same issue. I was having same issue and just thought it was clutch, so I did not order the fork and then had to take it back down as it was blowing slave cylinders from fork pushing it beyond it stopping point once new clutch was installed. I did a video on clutch replacement but not doing the fork the second time. I get the beater thing. I bought the boxster as a fun toy to work on during Covid, drive an Alfa 4c as my daily driver. But as I told you in first reply, to adjust cables, you place the plastic porsche tool on the shifter, that places the shifter in correct spot, when you remove cables from shifter there are teeth it sits in, you pull cables up and let them fall in place where the just drop, it will be moved in the teeth position and then you turn the spring retainer and you are adjusted. Very simple with the porsche alignment tool.
Well did it work? How about a test drive?
I'm sorry.. you skipped how you actually adjusted it? Or did I miss it the 3 times I watched that part? At 4:25

which side do you put the tool on? You had it on one side earlier, then the other later.
Where can I find the adjustment tool? 2002 986 S MT
Most likely eBay but definitely from Porsche parts department
Do you have a link to buy that tool?
I purchased it from ebay. Search porsche boxster factory shifter tool.
