    Para Ordnance was founded 35 years ago, in Canada of all places, by Ted Szabo (a Hungarian ex-pat) and Thanos Polyzos (who had immigrated from Greece). The company grew slowly and specialized in 1911s. In 2009, Para USA began domestic production in North Carolina. The Freedom Group bought them in 2012.
    The company built its reputation on rock-solid, no-frills 1911s. The guns sometimes strayed into more radical designs. Para pioneered double stack single actions and developed a double action for the 1911 that gained favor with law enforcement. In fact, if you look at the history of the company and the design innovations they developed, you’ll see evidence of a true dedication to the 1911. Think about the time frame we’re talking about here. In the mid-1980s, the American military kicked the old 1911 design to the curb. The era of polymer-framed double-actions was just ramping up.
    Instead of jumping on that bandwagon, Para answered the 1911’s critics. You want more capacity? Try the double-stack with 14+1 of 45acp. You don’t trust single action? They can fix that, too. You want a 1911 that runs reliably, every single time? Pick up a Para.
    Para, by all accounts, is a kick-ass brand. Back in the Day, several professional shooters who run Paras. These are people with skills and means, who could carry any 1911 on the market, and they carry Paras. We know the brand Para went out of business in 2016. The Para name will disappear. Maybe forever. It will go away for a while, at least. The companies that own them often resurrect brands in the name of nostalgia. Or ambitious entrepreneurs bring them back from the grave. Either way, I doubt we’ve seen the last of Para.

      It is perfect for me, but my only reservation is the 4lbs 10oz trigger pull. Too much for my afflicted right had to pull the trigger. I might get the non LDA version if there is one. The SAR is 3/8 too long both ways but trigger works in both hands.

    You compared the para ordnance to odd ball guns if you want to do a comparison you should use more common 1911 style guns . Out of all comparisons, the CZ was the only one I was semi familiar with. I make leather holster and I often are approached to make holsters for "clones" or "knock off" and most aren't worth the money nor the note to mention, much like your comparison models.

      My dad said never buy a 1911 when John Browning invented the double stack High Power. I have zero 1911 single stacks. Sorry i do have the Heizer PKO 45 and Browning Buckmaster. I have most every CZ and CZ clone, many Hi Powers and clones and five 2011 + two Para Ordnance P12. As a rule, i never buy single stacks. Otherwise I would have a Sig p210 Carry Custom or maybe a 1911.

      You can only buy the Para Ordnance used $600 to $800. Remington bought them and a new R1 Remington Commander averages $1000. Prices of what I see on GB.

      @@WheeledandWellArmed that’s good news indeed. I bought mine with the intentions of it being my every day carry as well. I am in Lancaster County PA. It was used so I figured it would’ve already been broken in at someone else’s expense. It had failure to go into battery with both magazines an average of once per mag. I replaced all the springs, polished the feed ramp, tried various ammo and made sure everything was well lubed but just couldn’t get it to run. I wanted it to work so bad but I just couldn’t trust it. I guess I just had a lemon. After watching your video I kind of wish I had it back now that I have another 10 years experience to try to work with it again.

      @@bripro68 My gunsmith hates Para-Ordnance. I have a black one with a 1911 trigger that feels like the slide is gritty. It is the spring but has been reliable except for the first round, the slide got stuck back. I oiled it and haven't had any issues again. I put 500 rounds in it and had it milled for a red dot that was sitting around. It's reliable but not sure about the $200 Sig Sauer dot.

    You've got me interested in buying one soon. Have you found it to be reliable? Do you know if it will accept commander sized grips? Do you think it will work with higher capacity double stack para magazines?

    • @WheeledandWellArmed
      @WheeledandWellArmed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, both the LDA and 1911 triggers on the P12 are reliable. I EDC the LDA daily.
      Maybe, I haven't tried the grips but 99% aftermarket grips will work, it looks flat but have not taken them off. I will this weekend.
      Yes, I think the P14 mag will work. I have not but will also try the SAR K2 45 and IWI 941 45acp mags.

      @@RealCptHammonds Captain, it seems to me you now have a mission and would be following government orders. There are also the P10, even smaller. IMHO the P10 is too small and the P12 is the G19 sized Goldilocks. I do not know if only the LDA is lighter but my LDA is much lighter than the 1911 style trigger. Maybe research if there are P12 1911 triggers with alloy lowers if you want to go with that trigger. Good luck and let me know your results.
