    I actually kinda like Undertaker vs Underfaker for the novelty of it. I'd definitely watch it over Lawler and Doink's match.

    Bret Hart's back must've been sore for carrying the company during the new gen era.

    • @markula_4040
      @markula_4040 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like Bret but he carried nothing. WCW overtook WWF to be #1 on Bret's watch and then when Bret goes to WCW, WWF regains the #1 spot in less than a year. Coincidence? Not a chance. Hell, Kevin Nash cites Bret Hart as a big reason for leaving to go to WCW which helped facilitate all that. Bret was an all-time great but his impact on the biz is suspect.

    The one thing (above all others) that really pissed me off about The Royal Family vs. Clowns R Us was the booking. It was made clear that Doink and Lawler could only be in the ring with each other, so as soon as Jerry pinned the full-sized clown for the first elimination, Doink's team were literally unable to win as there was no-one who could legally go against Lawler.

    • @tafua_a
      @tafua_a ปีที่แล้ว

      Which makes me wonder what would have happened if Dink were the sole survivor of Clowns 'R Us and Jerry were the sole survivor of the Royal Family. A no contest?

      I also think it's the first (or ONE of the first) times in WWF/WWE history that someone takes an unprotected chair shot to the head. Sure, it wasn't as vicious as the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression era shots (nor do I think we should go back to doing that), but you can tell, Taker and Yoko were trying to make the match feel more vicious than an average casket match with it.

    I was at SummerSlam '94 at the United Center (the first ever event there) at 9 years old. My two favorite wrestlers were Bret Hart and The Undertaker. It's conflicting that one put up one of the best matches of all time, and the other put up one of the worst.
    However, my best memory was at the hotel that night, talking to Stu f'n Hart for a good 20 minutes, mano y mano. He saw his boys put on a clinic and was so proud of them. I had just gotten to the "knowing it was scripted but loved it anyway" state, and I knew enough to impress him. Stu talked about the sport like I was someone leading a territory. We were both donning half-crooked smiles the whole time--I was in awe of him, and he was ecstatic to chat with a fan of a youth generation. Helen eventually pried him away, but I'll never forget that.

    I need to tell you three things, Mr. Pacitti:
    1.The Headshrinkers as babyfaces was a huge necessity due to the Steiner Brothers leaving the WWF on very bad terms. It's kinda like what happened when the Legion of Doom left the WWF twice in 1992, causing both the Natural Disasters and the Nasty Boys to receive their respective face pushes.
    The Headshrinkers' title reign started off hot when they beat the Quebecers twice, then got a bit lukewarm by retaining against Yoko and Crush here, and completely cooled off with their title defense against Well Dunn on the July 17th episode of Wrestling Challenge, before dropping the gold to HBK and Diesel the night before SummerSlam.
    2.The Guts & Glory/Million Dollar Team match only stank because it was sandwiched between Backlund beating Bret for the gold thanks to Owen tricking Mummy Helen into throwing in the towel, and Taker wanting to get his casket match win back from Yoko.
    3.Perfect only DQ'ed Luger because Luger KO'ed Perfect at WrestleMania 9 the previous year.

    • @voiceofreason2674
      @voiceofreason2674 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agreed the fight was hilarious as a little kid but also there was real moves that only little people can pull off during their brief physical prime. Like I believe it was Lawler who threw one of the little people high in the air soaring above head level and he hit the ground with this perfect somersaulting roll. That's an amazing feat. And what do you do with the guys who get too old to be thrown around? Cast them aside or let them work the comedy angle ? I say let them do their thing as a little kid they had me laughing but also they made me believe in magic with their acrobatics

    • @jonathanorr44
      @jonathanorr44 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@voiceofreason2674 I just read the guy who played Dink is still wrestling at nearly 70 years old. So he was in his late 30s in this match. Long and successful career, for sure! Which is rare for someone with those challenges.

      @Crush1084 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very....interesting favorite to have. I get it to a point if you just turn your brain off and watch. But I personally can't get over the fact that it was expressly said that Lawler and Doink could only fight each other. And then Doink was the first eliminated, meaning Doink's team had no way of winning from that point on as none of the tiny wrestlers could legally pin Lawler. Meaning the match is completely pointless

    • @tafua_a
      @tafua_a ปีที่แล้ว

      Throughout the 2000s, he had a classic after the other. As a performer he was always good imo, but in the early 90's his gimmick forced him to always limit his own athleticism in the ring. He starte picking up speed in 1997, but in 1999 he got hurt and it took him years to recover.

  • @NateTheGnat
    @NateTheGnat ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I see a parallel between the Taker vs Taker '94 and Taker vs Sid at WM13. They were both boring matches and before them were classic ones featuring Bret Hart. I also think that if Mabel had not been in WWF the years 1994 and 1995 would probably not be half as bad... he really did stink it up that much. The Yoko vs Taker matches were funny but I really liked watching Yoko squashing 1-2-3 Kid. I used to watch those fights on Colosseum videos back in the 90s. It was a cool time to watch wrestling back then...

      Meh I disagree I think the formula they used in the early to late 2000's works better but hey it's your opnion

      I think 12 is fine if they're the right ones. Gimmick pay-per-views like Hell in a Cell or TLC water the concept down making it basically meaningless, and having Survivor Series be the one time a year where anyone gives a shit about what night of the week they wrestle on (when they've all wrestled on all of them within the last year anyway) is really dumb. Change those up and 12 is fine. 4 or 5 a year just leaves a company spinning their wheels most of the time with no real culmination to any stories.

    Speaking of Harvey Whippleman ... Congrats to the Whippleman family for being the first father/son pair to hold the wwe womens title.
