My parents had an Anglo-Hispanic marriage and growing up, this show made me feel normal. It felt normal to have a parent who didn't speak perfect English and slightly darker skin. This truly was an amazing show.

Jajajajajajaja. Qué tales sketchs. Se nota que Desi Arnaz fue muy talentoso. Y de Lucille Ball ni qué decir. Una pareja muy querida que trascendió al tiempo...
This episode it's really funny, because I'm latina and I talk Spanish and English. And I feel exactly like Ricky when I have to be the translator between my family and my american boyfriend's family. Because mine only talk Spanis, and he and his family only talks English 😆😆😆 There's a point in which your brain get so confused and you end it up talking spanglish hahaha.
Omg they are JUST like my mom and dad. Desi even has this not normal, difficult-to-distinguish type of accent very similar to my dad. I love watching them.
I saw an interview in which Lucille said in real life she wanted Desi to speak to their kids in Spanish so they’d learn it. Of course they got divorced when the children were still little, and I don’t think he was around very much before that anyway.
Lucy and Ricky remind me of my mom and dad. Whenever my mom did something that caused a mess or made things worse like Lucy did, my dad would come out with the angry Spanish expressions and call her loca. It was so funny, my mom passed away suddenly on Thanksgiving last month and I loved watching this show with her when I was a kid. My dad is still around and is hanging in there but we are all sad. My mom's favorite episode was the one where Ricky dressed as an old man and made his crush Peggy jiggle his legs.
While it is true, for precisely reason above anything, I couldn't stop watching this particular video, " Lucy y Ricky Hablando En Espanol E Ingles". The foremost, I love the idea integrating both languages into the script. Engaging myself deeply into this video has been quite entertaining, listening Desi use his native language.
Still most loved show. Classic comedy. Classic actors. Lucy, Desi, Vivian, William. I remember Lucy from Roman Candles with Eddie Cantor. Classic movie Stage Door. Desi from Too Many Girls. Vivian from later movies in the late 1960s till 1970s. William Frawley from the 1930s till the late 1960s.

Ebony B. I dated a Mexican guy 3 months ago & he said if we do end up dating, he would teach me Spanish. My mom can speak Spanish b/c she went to Chile.

I don't think people think it sounds funny. What makes it funny is that Desi was sooo good at gesticulating that, even though people can't necessarily understand him, they CAN understand him. His Spanish became universal because of the way he delivered it. That's very special, and he made it very funny.
I seriously don't understand why Mexico didn't formally invite Desi Arnaz to host a variety show for them. Mexico has had so many different talents from various countries to be involved in movies for them. Desi could have easily captivated the Mexican audience in the same way Johnny Carson did in the United States. All the Mexican studios had to do was provide people with comedic talent to make it on Desi Arnaz's variety show. Plus he would have been allowed to speak consistently in Spanish. I feel he missed out on making terrific movies in B&W Mexican films. He would have fallen in love with a variety of actresses in those Mexican films. I could see Desi Arnaz alongside Libertad Lamarque or Sylvia Penal etc.
I thought it's funny that they have a Cuban telling the story of Little Red Riding Hood bringing beans, tortillas and wine when Cubans have no idea what are tortillas (a Mexican bread).
Many of the things in the show are Mexican, like a lot of the music, I think it’s just because Hollywood and the US were more acquainted with Mexican culture, as the entire Southwest/West was Mexico.

Being a non-native Spanish speaker, I'm hoping someone who is can tell me what is it that Ricky says while having a conversation with his mother on the couch. I understand enough Spanish to know that she first tells him that she sent a wire to inform them she was on her way but that she arrived before the message did. Ricky repeats what she says but says it a little differently and they laugh about it. Could someone please type the exact sentence he says to her so I can have a visual of what I hear? If anyone is willing to do this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
