  • Here's where I started breaking myself! A 365-mile blat across flatlands and mountains in order to find the most amazing views of this roadtrip so far. There is only one road to Milford Sound, so I followed it. It just kept getting better and better. Also includes one curious Kea that took a liking to my 2001 Ford Fairmont AU.

New Zealand really is a beautiful country, i can see why my uncle and aunt emigrated to there back in the 70's. I would love to live there. The UK these days just seems such a mess compared to a country like New Zealand.

It was OK for your relatives...nowadays its really expensive..got an average million bucks for an Auckland house...or Wellington..big earthquake in Christchurch..go to a local supermarket and cry..no Lidl or Aldi here..then youl realise how expensive it is to get back to the UK...im in NZ just now..yeah its cool..but grass is never greener...

This is where im from. Houses in Invercargill, the city he left from are about 2/300,000. And thats NZ $$ so barely touching 150,000 pounds. If someone is attracted to this beauty ( bottom of South Island NZ) why would you give a price for a house in the most populated city at the top of the North Island? Of course the grass is greener....it literally is

Less haste will improve all things on this trip - quality not quantity is what counts. Having said that what you have shown us so far, including Milford Sound, is convincing me that a trip to NZ is a must. The scenery and the lack of people and traffic are exactly what I want in life as a tourist - if only I could tolerate the plane journey ! Keep well Ian.

  • @seancooke4127
    @seancooke4127 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Wonderful video Ian must be tough remembering to drive with that scenery all around. Absolutely classic cheeky parrot footage. Reminds me of touring Longleat in my Camry behind a nice Rover 416 which was having its sunroof seal peeled slowly and left dangling down the driver's window by a Baboon. Thank you so much for blasting that gloriously sweet straight 6 a couple of times. The last time I saw a Nissan Sunny estate like that was at school in 1984 in a lovely metallic chocolate brown. Tyres made of cheese in the corners, man you are a poet. No doubt young Hubnut's cradle needed no rocking that night. Thank you again. Classic. Top Man.

Many many years ago i spent a night in Milford Sound ( with my Father ) the whole night thunder and lightning almost all night long non stop very high rain fall at Milford Sound, on another occasion Dad had used a phone booth ( which by the way was one of very few phones ) seconds after he had used the phone booth lightning hit it and blew it away!
Best not to overtake the coaches, they travel quite quickly best just to let them go!
The Earnslaw ( steam ship ) was originally part of the New Zealand Railways network, because NZR could not put a railway line thru to Queenstown so the 'Kingston Flyer' would bring passengers and some freight to Kingston at the Southern end of the lake, the Earnslaw would meet the train and take them the rest of way.
The cable car at Queenstown are gondolar,s not cable cars.
The boilers on the Earnslaw are very similar to those on the AB steam locomotives, for ease of repair i guess because there many AB loco,s about.

    Hi,
I really enjoyed this took me back to my trip in 2016 to Australia & New Zealand but I know its a road trip but not to go on a boat trip on Milford Sound you missed so much and I was blown away by Queenstown could not put the camera (still) down kept taking snaps of the snow capped mountains and a trip on the steamer was great to. I did South Island on a coach trip and on the way to Milford the Kea's were much in attendance when we had to wait as they made it safe from avalanches and one of the other coaches waiting had there door open and a couple of them got on had a look and I can only assume did not like what they saw and promptly jumped of again so again thank you for the reminder and have a very Happy Christmas & New Year.
    Cheers Robert.

That would be "Tay_Arnoo" (Te Anau). Keas are renowned for eating cars, rubber fittings, seals, windscreen wipers etc. The Homer Tunnel was built as a public works project by the NZ government, to offer work to men otherwise laid off as a result of the Great Depression. TS Earnslaw built in 1912, is driven by two locomotive steam engines thus twin screws. The cruise was well worth the cost as lunch was included. But horses for courses! LOL!

Tremendous... thanks Ian. Love that you film the “random” stuff that draws your attention. Also, Hubnut merch just arrived - Power Tee and mugs, Beanie and stickers ... Rachel (and George) do some of the most amazingly efficient packaging I’ve seen in a long time - Thank you ! Take good care all.

Nice film Ian, no wonder you had a melt down, you must have been knackered. Nice that you're feeling more yourself.

Wow, the scenery reminds me of Western Scotland - Oban up to Fort William and around there. They even have a PS Waverley equivalent albeit sans paddles. It seems in some ways more built up, but in others ways (traffic) less built up. I must pay a visit. Hope you can avoid the volcano eruptions, and the wildfires in Oz.

I could watch that road to Milford twisting and unfolding for hours - as you evidently did..... A candidate to join my - very short - list of the worlds most epic roads.

The valley was cool, I'm going to watch this again on the big screen when I get home. A lot of New Zealand, looks just like the states.
