  • In this video,
    Introduction:
Briefly introduce the purpose of the tutorial: designing a sheet metal box enclosure using SolidWorks.
Mention the key skills viewers will learn, such as sketching, applying sheet metal features, and creating a 3D model.
    1. Set Up the Sheet Metal Environment:
Open SolidWorks and create a new part file.
    Choose the "Sheet Metal" template.
Adjust the material and thickness for the sheet metal.
    2. Create a Base Sketch:
Start with a new sketch on the front plane.
Use the "Rectangle" tool to create the base shape of the box.
Dimension the sketch to define the size of the box.
    3. Add Sheet Metal Features:
Go to the "Sheet Metal" tab.
Use the "Base Flange" tool to convert the 2D sketch into a 3D sheet metal part.
Specify the bend parameters, such as the bend radius and angle.
    4. Add Side Flanges:
Use the "Edge Flange" tool to add side flanges to the box.
Specify the dimensions for each side flange.
Ensure proper alignment and connectivity with the base flange.
    5. Create Cutouts and Holes:
Add cutouts and holes for connectors, vents, or other features.
Use the "Extruded Cut" and "Hole Wizard" tools for this purpose.
Dimension and position the cutouts accurately.
    6. Bend and Unbend Features:
Demonstrate how to use the "Bend" and "Unbend" features to modify the design.
Show how to adjust bend allowances and relief types.
    7. Flatten the Sheet Metal Part:
Use the "Flat-Pattern" tool to flatten the sheet metal part.
Explain how to review the flat pattern and check for any errors.
    8. Add Bend Lines and Annotations:
Show how to add bend lines and annotations to the flattened view.
This is essential for manufacturing and helps communicate the design intent.
    9. Export and Save:
Demonstrate how to export the flat pattern as a DXF or DWG file for laser cutting or manufacturing.
Save the SolidWorks part in the desired format.
