Never thought I'd see a Randy Holden reaction. It really made my day! Randy is a guitar legend, and yet many people have never heard of him. He was even asked to join the Yardbirds when Jeff Beck was leaving. Unfortunately, by the time Randy was able to join, the Yardbirds had already broken up.
Tha band Bloodrock was from Fort Worth Texas. They are (in)famous for their song D.O.A. which creeped out a lot of people when it first came out in 1971.
Bloodrock sorta got a bad rap with their 'hit' DOA. Only song that most rock fans ever heard by them. But those first 4 albums are killer! THe 4th one- 'USA' is a top tier fav of mine--even after all these decades! They deserved WAY better..should've been HUGE! T
I wore out the 8-track of that Bloodrock album as a kid. They came to a small club once in my hometown but I was too young to get in. I drove by during the concert and could hear that booming bass coming through the walls.
Familiar with ZZ Top and Blue Cheer, but not the other bands. I saw ZZ Top at the York Fair in York, PA in September 2008. Awesome show. They did old stuff and new stuff (at that time). Outdoor show. Thanks @roundabout!!!
Incredible album! I was a sophomore in high school when this came out! Great times, great music! They took DOA off the radio in many cities and also in Tulsa where I live!
Missed that tour (too young),but saw GF as my 1st rock concert back in Oct. '71 with Black Ok Arkansas. I heard from reliable sources that Bloodrock stole the show... no mean feat when you're talking about Grand Funk RR-- But apparently, they were just that good! T
Love Blue Cheer. And this song "Peace of Mind" is one of my all-time favorites. Still have the Vinyl, and of course on my PC. Funny, when I saw you were doing a Blue Cheer I was hoping that would be the song. So Thanks for reacting to it!
Bloodrock and Bloodrock 2 were great albums! So many great songs and stellar guitar work! If you want to hear some of their phenomenal guitar solo’s check out some of their other songs Timepiece, Gotta Find Away, Double Cross, Melvin Laid an Egg and many others I can’t remember off the top of my head. Bought their first two albums CD’s about 15 years ago because my turntable isn’t hooked up! Still listening at 68!
Master of Sparks 😎very Cool “the speed was to so out I flew” can’t wait to dig in later after work some of the other songs are really intriguing. I’m excited 😜
Van Halen have a demo called Piece of Mind. Boston 1st album track Piece of Mind. Randy Holden was in the Fender IV, the Sons of Adam, the Other Half, Population II which also has bonus tracks in middle 90s with Blue Cheer drummer. ZZ Top killing it in the early days. Fandango is my fave.
Nick...Tin House was led by Johnny Winter guitarist Floyd Radford. Rick Derringer produced their album way back then. And-- it's a great underground album! I was able to score a copy on cd years ago. Not sure if it's still available, but probably here on y-tube. Check it out,bro...T
As Sheldon would say..Fun Fact! Bloodrock: on the debut album, Jim Rutledge played drums and sang lead vocals (except in the verses on Wicked Truth...not sure who sang those). After the debut,Jim moved to frontman and they got Rick Cobb III. Both very excellent drummers! T
Finally, someone reacts to Master of Sparks, one of my favorite ZZ Top songs. Classic deep cut.

No Jimmy Page stepped in . So not an option.

Bloodrock DOA was my first introduction at age 12

I saw Bloodrock open for Grand Funk. They both had the same manager. Lucky in the morning & Cheater are two good ones off of Bloodrock 2.

Since I first heard Blue Cheer, hooked for life. 1967.

92.3k!!!! Awesome! Lets keep it going!!!👍
I've had the Randy Holden album forever, I bought it for new 33 cents off a cutout rack. Jim
Well, I hope you took care of it. Those bring four figures in US dollars. EX to NM condition. Rare album!
Check out Blue Cheers' last live concert in 1993. They still Rocked Hard.
Fruit & Iceberg is on a Blure Cheer album or 2.
Try Bloodrock's DOA or Melvin Laid An Egg - creepy and killer stuff
Research the origin of Blue Cheers name, and then tie it into Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan.
Hell, Holden is as heavy as a heavy thing!
