I actually really liked that Kid moment, he's realized Luffy is strong as hell and actually roots for luffy, putting their rivalry aside. I don't really agree that he lost his ambition, he just knows Luffy is the best chance. Plus he's got his hand (s?) full with a Yonko himself.

Orochi will not die in this arc if he was he already be deceased he has to see that after 20 years. Him taking revenge was futile and he will be locked up for the remainder of his life to reflect. Thus finally ending the kurizumi and Kazuki fued.

But a coda doesn't need to be thematic, and it's most often a phrase unique from the rest of the piece, hence why it has its own line that's only played at the end unless you're including the D.S./D.C. as part of the conclusion which is fair

Theres a real "proud parent" feeling to watching luffy and strawhats reach these new heights, one of the reasons I believe oda has focused more heavily on parental themes post timeskip. So many people are going to moved to tears collectively at once when the final episode airs and they us with another perfectly placed "memories" track. Absolute masterclass story.
The thing that makes Luffy's exponential jump in power so great to me is that if think about it for a second it makes perfect sense: If Conqueror's Haki is the ultimate manifestation of a person's willpower effecting the world and you can coat your attacks with it, of course as soon as he learns to do that he's ridiculously strong because who has more sheer willpower than Monkey D. Luffy!?
Exactly. People are mad because power progression in One Piece has been more or less incremental from day one and now all of a sudden there is a huge power creep. But there’s nothing wrong with that as long as it makes sense. Luffy probably has the best natural Conqueror’s haki in the entire series because his willpower and ambitions is unlike no other. So all he needed was better haki control to become a monster. He learned the basics of this during the time skip but he never learned how to use conquerors coating or use conquerors for anything other than knocking fodder out and taming animals. So while Luffy was quite strong, after the time skip, he was relying on his second best form of haki to beat strong opponents. On top of that he didn’t have any advanced forms of armament or awakening and he was able to beat someone as strong as Doflamingo. Jump forward to Wano and now Luffy has learned to control armament as an aura outside the body, instead of using it as an invisible armor around his skin. On top of that his observation haki has evolved far enough for him to gain future sight, from his fight with Katakuri. This gave Luffy all the tools he needed to learn Conquerors coating because in theory conquerors coating is the same thing as the advanced haki technique he has learned. It’s controlling your haki as a strong aura outside the body, it’s just with a different type of haki. Naturally however since Luffy has a better affinity for conquerors his aura would be far stronger using conquerors than using armament. This would make learning conquerors coating something he could learn relatively quickly and easily and learning it would dramatically increase his power an unprecedented amount. Luffy was able to learn of the technique from observing Kaido directly in their fights, which may not have been possible if his observation haki wasn’t as advanced as it was. I think these are satisfactory enough reasons to explain Luffy’s leap in power. He had already put all the work in. He was just one step away from a breakthrough.
Yea i think luffy fully mastered the concept of conquerers haki, that and each time he nearly dies his haki blooms so hes at a state where he know he can do anything which makes his willpower the strongest in verse imo also maybe his gum fruit has something to do with his haki blooms being op maybe
Luffy just figured out the secret of the top tiers thats why his jump is so big. After ryo training he was pretty much showing glimpses of that power with his regular armament. He really just needed better haki control, maybe thats why he abandoned gear 4th cuz he can pull out that power in base, luffy's speed was already ridiculous but even with future sight he couldn't dodge a thunder bagua in base showing how fast Yonkos attack speed get.

I vote "Isolated Burst" for the name of this storytelling method, as it usually is isolated to a single chapter at a time, but also contains a rather hefty burst of story within it. Very to the point, but sometimes simplicity is what we need.

I read a theory that Hiyori will join Momo Luffy and Yamato up against Kaido because of her representation as Tsukuyomi, with Momo being Amaterasu and Yamato as Susanoo, so if this is true and the 3 “siblings” are supposed to gather, then perhaps Hiyori will bring Ame no Habakiri. And maybe she will kill Orochi with it along the way. This may also explain that she was the shadow with the Akazaya 9 many chapters ago. GLR I would like to know your thoughts. I think having zoro sanji Yamato and jinbei as luffys commanders would be awesome. With a possibility that brook, Robin and Franky will reach that level by the end of the story. Also jack did more for his side than either queen or king. Queen managed to hurt his cause more than help and king just played with Marco most of the time. Jack has been putting in work since Zou so I don't mind how he went out. I'm sure by the time the anime comes we will see all of his tricks.
it seems like Luffy is entering a gear attacks and instantly deactivates it. and kaido's dragon form seems to be his tank/powerful attack mode, and absolutely do dodging.
I honestly think that Luffys Devil fruit goes beyond just being “rubber” but takes on the general idea of elasticity. The more tension put on rubber bands, the harder they snap back. I think that is the core ability of his fruit. The whole concept of stretching, tension, and force. And why we often see Luffy in “Tense” situations able to strike back harder then he could before. I think his abilities while being physically rubber… also extends metaphorically to quote Eminem “Who's had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half Of his career typical manure moving past that Mr. kisses ass crack, he's a class act Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back” When he gets beat down, he just stands back up more determined then ever before. His WillPower can not be shattered because it itself is elastic and able to stretch snapping back more powerful then before. And as we know Haki is a manifestation of ones own WillPower, and if ones fruit allows them to literally stretch the limits of said power to snap it back with incredible force… I can see why the Word Government wanted the fruit so bad. Outta of the Fear of creating an enemy with unbreakable Willpower that potentially as the power to even bend other’s ambitions into their favour. Devil fruits are weird, and I’ve always felt that Luffy’s devil fruit was directly linked to his ambitions, his willpower, his stubbornness. I mean it’s a very common phrase to say a person “bounced” back after they went through some bad situation and grew stronger from it as a person. I mean hell maybe it’s even going Yu-gi-oh style with the whole “heart of the cards” crap and luffys devil fruit literally bends probability to his favour… how many times has he been near death and conveniently escape death through various means? I truly think Oda is taking the concept of Rubber/Elasticity beyond it’s literally meaning and extending its powers into a metaphorically sense as well.
Nah, I don't think Momonosuke is coming down from the roof any time soon. We haven't seen Denjiro in a while. It would extremely appropriate for him to be the one who will deal the final blow to Orochi. Especially if the mysterious silhouette is revealed to be Hiyori and she's around to see it and/or help him.
I don't think he's quite yonko level yet, though almost definitely the strongest non-yonko pirate (besides maybe Mihawk but its always besides Mihawk). I think Luffy was able to meet Yonko level strength for that clash, but I think it was a nearly one off thing or limited at least (similar to how gear 4 was against Katakuri but even more cooldown and less uptime) where Luffy poured exponentially more haki/energy to produce that effect compared to the other Yonko.
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity I mean, it's pretty much canon that when 2 yonko clash, they split the sky, I don't know what else could Oda do to signal that Luffy is Yonko level, but i don't expect a side note on the page saying "this was the moment Luffy actually became a Yonko, signed: Eiichiro Oda"

I think this chapter officially puts to death all theories that stated that Luffy would need a second timeskip to get stronger and face the final villains -- with the sky being split by yonko-level conqueror's haki and the fact that he's facing (arguably) the strongest one, we can safely assume that the story will continue smoothly without such interruptions.
This chapter was amazing. All I was harping on was Luffy's uncanny way of motivation that works i.e. bite him, you'll get braver🤣🤣🤣😭❤🤣💯. A word for a chapter written this way can be coined ODAMN!. Yeah I'm not good at this stuff, don't use that word. Great review as always!

My favorite part of the chapter that I'm still laughing about is the part right after the moon is shown to be visible and both Perospero and Jack are looking up at the clearly visible moon with that classic "Oh-..." face that locked in place and realized how f'd you are right now face Every other part was just so hype and epic, but that part I laughed hard

“Pre-lOda” A prelude into what Oda has planned for the rest of the chapter, i.e. his early foreshadowing. Doesn’t pertain to the other aspects, but rather those little scenes as a prelude into Oda’s big reveals later
All that’s left is for luffy to awaken his devil fruit. He already has all advanced forms of haki and once he awakens his DF then all he needs to do is combine it all and a new gear can be born. Kings haki coating, ryou and future sight while in gear 4 is what he is capable of now and with an awakening he will have so many more new forms or attacks
Luffys fight IQ just keeps growing! If he is like this now with Kaido, he should have his advanced haki down and hopefully find a way for his rubber to nullify the effects of the goru goru no mi, along with Blackbeards darkness fruit.

Maybe an "inverted" chapter? If we assume the standard path being a->b with a peak going into b, for an inverted chapter we would see a small peak in the beginning followed by a downhill slope fanning out more of the story/spacing which would segue into another build and final peak at b to finish the chapter. That may not make any sense at all. A->B vs AB
I also, as a person who’s been reading One Piece for around 15 years, have always believed the sky splitting would occur when Luffy first clashed with Teach in the final arc.
I always figured Luffy just needed to hone his haki technek to be on a similar plane as the emperors so I'm feeling pretty good right now 😊. Also do we know if the prophecy was a threat or if there is actual legitimacy to it?
Each chapter from chapter 1000 has been raising the bar chapter by chapter, each chapter is better than the previous one, this is what I love about one piece and Oda’s writing, he’s an absolute god when it comes to foreshadowing and he rarely misses a detail I’ve been watching one piece ever since it came out and I was only a kid, now I am a 26 year old doctor who’s been growing with this story, it’s truly the best writing I’ve ever seen and this is the reason why oda is my favourite mangaka and believe me, I am heavily critic when it comes to writing

We know that Luffy uses a lot of Haki to do G4. So perhaps it makes sense that hes in base form for the sky split as hes focusing the majority of his haki for that feat

It makes sense that Luffy could split the sky now with Kaido. I mean, after fighting his way up the stairs in the castle, with no break, he fought 2 Emperors and was repeatedly hurt and got back up with no break, he stood briefly toe-to-toe with Kaido, again, without a break, and now he's eaten, relaxed, and had substantial time to recover and heal.. He's essentially in peak form, after his broken form could cause damage
I think it’s fair to mention that Luffy had been trying to attain this form of advanced conquerors haki since the beginning of the time skip so his several weeks in wano were like a focused training camp.
I think something like the full bloom effect can work for this set up. Planting the seeds of the plant, letting the roots and plant grow, then having the the rose, or flower bloom into the plot.
I like oda he never forgets things unlike a certain *bizarre* manga artist that like to draw teen agers that looks older and have their own will to fight against other wills

Just a theory, but I think that when Luffy uses advanced CQ Haki it's not that he doesn't use different Gears on purpose, it's that he cannot. At least for now. At this point we saw ONLY mythical zoan users capable of using it in their hybrid forms. No other DF type user was able to. Even when WB clashed with Roger he didn't coat his halberd with both CQ Haki and tremmor bubble. So... it's not that Luffy is flexing or unwilling, but it's that he's incapable of it. Or it might be impossible for some DF types to pull off. Or here's where Gear 5 will probably happen.

The thing that makes Luffy's exponential jump in power so great to me is that if think about it for a second it makes perfect sense: If Conqueror's Haki is the ultimate manifestation of a person's willpower effecting the world and you can coat your attacks with it, of course as soon as he learns to do that he's ridiculously strong because who has more sheer willpower than Monkey D. Luffy!?
Exactly. People are mad because power progression in One Piece has been more or less incremental from day one and now all of a sudden there is a huge power creep. But there’s nothing wrong with that as long as it makes sense. Luffy probably has the best natural Conqueror’s haki in the entire series because his willpower and ambitions is unlike no other. So all he needed was better haki control to become a monster. He learned the basics of this during the time skip but he never learned how to use conquerors coating or use conquerors for anything other than knocking fodder out and taming animals. So while Luffy was quite strong, after the time skip, he was relying on his second best form of haki to beat strong opponents. On top of that he didn’t have any advanced forms of armament or awakening and he was able to beat someone as strong as Doflamingo. Jump forward to Wano and now Luffy has learned to control armament as an aura outside the body, instead of using it as an invisible armor around his skin. On top of that his observation haki has evolved far enough for him to gain future sight, from his fight with Katakuri. This gave Luffy all the tools he needed to learn Conquerors coating because in theory conquerors coating is the same thing as the advanced haki technique he has learned. It’s controlling your haki as a strong aura outside the body, it’s just with a different type of haki. Naturally however since Luffy has a better affinity for conquerors his aura would be far stronger using conquerors than using armament. This would make learning conquerors coating something he could learn relatively quickly and easily and learning it would dramatically increase his power an unprecedented amount. Luffy was able to learn of the technique from observing Kaido directly in their fights, which may not have been possible if his observation haki wasn’t as advanced as it was. I think these are satisfactory enough reasons to explain Luffy’s leap in power. He had already put all the work in. He was just one step away from a breakthrough.

Luffy just figured out the secret of the top tiers thats why his jump is so big. After ryo training he was pretty much showing glimpses of that power with his regular armament. He really just needed better haki control, maybe thats why he abandoned gear 4th cuz he can pull out that power in base, luffy's speed was already ridiculous but even with future sight he couldn't dodge a thunder bagua in base showing how fast Yonkos attack speed get.

I know I already posted this but I really want to hear people thoughts about this theory(?) Is Hiyori vs Orochi a possibility? I read a theory that Hiyori will join Momo Luffy and Yamato up against Kaido because of her representation as Tsukuyomi, with Momo being Amaterasu and Yamato as Susanoo, so if this is true and the 3 “siblings” are supposed to gather, then perhaps Hiyori will bring Ame no Habakiri. And maybe she will kill Orochi with it along the way. This may also explain that she was the shadow with the Akazaya 9 many chapters ago. GLR I would like to know your thoughts. Your 1 year old Komurasaki-Hiyori thoughts about Hiyori’s naive personality being an act may align with how she could be skilled with a sword, but maybe not samurai level. Although now, killing Orochi probably isn’t much trouble. Akazaya 9 taking 7 out of 8 Orochi heads could be Oda’s set up for Hiyori. I think having zoro sanji Yamato and jinbei as luffys commanders would be awesome. With a possibility that brook, Robin and Franky will reach that level by the end of the story. Also jack did more for his side than either queen or king. Queen managed to hurt his cause more than help and king just played with Marco most of the time. Jack has been putting in work since Zou so I don't mind how he went out. I'm sure by the time the anime comes we will see all of his tricks.

I honestly think that Luffys Devil fruit goes beyond just being “rubber” but takes on the general idea of elasticity. The more tension put on rubber bands, the harder they snap back. I think that is the core ability of his fruit. The whole concept of stretching, tension, and force. And why we often see Luffy in “Tense” situations able to strike back harder then he could before. I think his abilities while being physically rubber… also extends metaphorically to quote Eminem

When he gets beat down, he just stands back up more determined then ever before. His WillPower can not be shattered because it itself is elastic and able to stretch snapping back more powerful then before. And as we know Haki is a manifestation of ones own WillPower, and if ones fruit allows them to literally stretch the limits of said power to snap it back with incredible force… I can see why the Word Government wanted the fruit so bad. Outta of the Fear of creating an enemy with unbreakable Willpower that potentially as the power to even bend other’s ambitions into their favour. Devil fruits are weird, and I’ve always felt that Luffy’s devil fruit was directly linked to his ambitions, his willpower, his stubbornness. I mean it’s a very common phrase to say a person “bounced” back after they went through some bad situation and grew stronger from it as a person.
I mean hell maybe it’s even going Yu-gi-oh style with the whole “heart of the cards” crap and luffys devil fruit literally bends probability to his favour… how many times has he been near death and conveniently escape death through various means? I truly think Oda is taking the concept of Rubber/Elasticity beyond it’s literally meaning and extending its powers into a metaphorically sense as well.

I don't think he's quite yonko level yet, though almost definitely the strongest non-yonko pirate (besides maybe Mihawk but its always besides Mihawk). I think Luffy was able to meet Yonko level strength for that clash, but I think it was a nearly one off thing or limited at least (similar to how gear 4 was against Katakuri but even more cooldown and less uptime) where Luffy poured exponentially more haki/energy to produce that effect compared to the other Yonko.

I think this chapter officially puts to death all theories that stated that Luffy would need a second timeskip to get stronger and face the final villains -- with the sky being split by yonko-level conqueror's haki and the fact that he's facing (arguably) the strongest one, we can safely assume that the story will continue smoothly without such interruptions.

All that’s left is for luffy to awaken his devil fruit. He already has all advanced forms of haki and once he awakens his DF then all he needs to do is combine it all and a new gear can be born. Kings haki coating, ryou and future sight while in gear 4 is what he is capable of now and with an awakening he will have so many more new forms or attacks
I think the awakening of his devil fruit will be key to counter the quake attack that Blackbeard has

Maybe an "inverted" chapter? If we assume the standard path being a->b with a peak going into b, for an inverted chapter we would see a small peak in the beginning followed by a downhill slope fanning out more of the story/spacing which would segue into another build and final peak at b to finish the chapter. That may not make any sense at all. A->B vs AB
I also, as a person who’s been reading One Piece for around 15 years, have always believed the sky splitting would occur when Luffy first clashed with Teach in the final arc.

Each chapter from chapter 1000 has been raising the bar chapter by chapter, each chapter is better than the previous one, this is what I love about one piece and Oda’s writing, he’s an absolute god when it comes to foreshadowing and he rarely misses a detail I’ve been watching one piece ever since it came out and I was only a kid, now I am a 26 year old doctor who’s been growing with this story, it’s truly the best writing I’ve ever seen and this is the reason why oda is my favourite mangaka and believe me, I am heavily critic when it comes to writing

We know that Luffy uses a lot of Haki to do G4. So perhaps it makes sense that hes in base form for the sky split as hes focusing the majority of his haki for that feat

It makes sense that Luffy could split the sky now with Kaido. I mean, after fighting his way up the stairs in the castle, with no break, he fought 2 Emperors and was repeatedly hurt and got back up with no break, he stood briefly toe-to-toe with Kaido, again, without a break, and now he's eaten, relaxed, and had substantial time to recover and heal.. He's essentially in peak form, after his broken form could cause damage

I think it’s fair to mention that Luffy had been trying to attain this form of advanced conquerors haki since the beginning of the time skip so his several weeks in wano were like a focused training camp.
I think something like the full bloom effect can work for this set up. Planting the seeds of the plant, letting the roots and plant grow, then having the the rose, or flower bloom into the plot.
I say we just call it recycled hindsight. It’s hindsight delivered for us to reflect on & come back to with a big reward in the story’s plot

Just a theory, but I think that when Luffy uses advanced CQ Haki it's not that he doesn't use different Gears on purpose, it's that he cannot. At least for now. At this point we saw ONLY mythical zoan users capable of using it in their hybrid forms. No other DF type user was able to. Even when WB clashed with Roger he didn't coat his halberd with both CQ Haki and tremmor bubble. So... it's not that Luffy is flexing or unwilling, but it's that he's incapable of it. Or it might be impossible for some DF types to pull off. Or here's where Gear 5 will probably happen.
