Is 500cc enough for Road trips and Highways? Honda Rebel 500 - First long trip

  • I picked up this honda about 3 months ago with the intent to save on fuel, have fun, and go on overnight camping trips. in this video you get to join a little of my first test ride. I rode mostly highways on the way up and I-85 on the way back. cruising at 75mph for 3 hours was no problem at all for the little guy.

    I took I-85 the whole way back. Cruising at 70-75mph. It did alright however above 70 feels like it’s working harder. With a full camping load I will stick to 60-65mph. Zero issues with the bike over the past 2700 miles.

      I have a rally 250 dual sport and I avoid highways! 1. It’s more fun taking backroads and 2. Fully loaded 250 pushes hard to hit 60-65 mph. It’s nerve racking having cars fly by at 80.

    • @NeemorsWorld
      @NeemorsWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely. Any smaller of an engine and I wouldn’t want to take the interstate. I can see myself taking backroads for the start of a weekend and come home on interstates to make it back by work.

      "feels like working harder" lmao I have a nighthawk 250 and I did a 2h and a half straight trip with top speed of 75mph continuously at 8k of 10k rpm, if that bike has no damage after that beating being 20 years old and half the engine, I'm pretty sure a 500cc engine can cruise over 80mph forever

    This is a big bike in most parts of the world. Americans are funny with our ideas of what’s big enough, what’s a “beginner bike” (which IMO is the dumbest term in the motorcycle community)

    Great ride in beautiful country. I'm a new subscriber so thank you for the educational and entertaining channel. At 60 years old, I found myself newly single and returning to motorcycles after a 35 year hiatus. To celebrate my new found freedoms I purchased a 2021 Rebel 500 ABS SE in August and I love it! My only concern is the turbulence at speed, especially on the interstate. If there's any wind at all that just complicates things. Sometimes I feel like I'm about to launch off the bike! I'm considering an 18'' windscreen which from my research evidently makes a huge difference. My question is, do you have any recommendations for easy to install Rebel windscreens? I don't want to alter the stock 500 in any way, it's beautiful. Stay safe.

    • @NeemorsWorld
      @NeemorsWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried a windscreen. I just deal with the wind on long interstate rides. I may do a 1k+ mile trip this summer though and will probably want a screen for that. Not sure yet.

    I have a Honda Rebel 500 as well but it’s a 2017 model, I live in the middle of Arizona and wanna ride to the Grand Canyon and back in one day but it’s almost 200 miles to go up there. Do you think my bike would be able to do it? I wouldn’t be carrying anything too heavy other than water, a few meals, clothes and a first aid kit (let me know if I should bring anything else!) I’m also worried about ice and snow since it’s winter time and it’s a high enough climate where that becomes in issue in Payson/Flagstaff which is what I have to drive through in order to get to the Grand Canyon. What do you think? I’ve never ridden in snow before so do you think I should plan a different destination, or wait until it gets warmer?

    You can make motorcycle videos all you want I will watch as I used to own one, a Yamaha 650. The good news i9s the cans will rust and go back to nature, eventually. 500cc is more than adequate and anything bigger and those gravel roads would be a challenge.

    I'm astonished, i'd like to change my 18yo bike (600cc, 76hp@10500, 43 lb⋅ft@8000) with a new one and in my list there is this one (with tons of other bikes), for a simple reason: at 60 no more heavy and to tall for my crotch (26 inches) bikes. But i'd like to travel from 70mph to 85mph, sometime at 90mph (my highest speed limit was at 135mph, but i was really younger... 18 years ago). But if this one has problems at high speeds (over 70) i should cancel it from my list :( Cheers from Italy :) (i found this video performing a search about Honda Rebel 500 and travels, lol)

    NICE!! should be ok for almost anything you come across over there especially with your ultralight gear... you know i have a 600 honda shadow? i got it new in 2001, ive put about 65K on it... i ride through Death Valley etc most summers (looking like a sept trip this year), i have some vids/ anyway i find the 600 is almost enough, i can cruise at 80 on regular terrains but i do struggle on big mountains // a fuel injected bike will have much less trouble at high elevations so you might not even notice, the steepness is less of an issue than the oxygen// a 750 with carburetor will carry 2 people and gear pretty well in the mtns from what i understand but still struggles a little above 7000ft... Still overall my 600 has done me well for many many thousand mile trips, 500 will be fine too. Maybe some day you come out here and cruise the desert highways with me, you're one guy who mgiht be able to handle it.
