This just made me realize how important it was for Ruby to meet Somewhat at the end of Volume 9. She had finally realized that she was fine the way she was, but needed one more push to really cement that assertion. Somewhat was tangible evidence that her actions in the Ever After had a positive consequence, that even if she couldn’t see it at the time, she does inspire others to be better. After two Volumes of being worn down, this is likely the catalyst that will allow her more than anything to build herself back up again, as it shows her she can do good. What an incredible AMV which I think perfectly captures Ruby's mindset throughout V9 and forces me to think deeper on Ruby herself. Penny's death is analogous to Pyrrha's own. And I truly believe that Penny was to Ruby what Pyrrha was to Jaune. I do feel that Ruby's strong reactions to so much in V9 was because of this realization of what was taken from her. These lyrics fit so well for Ruby to Penny and to herself. There is a sense of self-imposed isolation with fleeting moments of joy alongside only certain people. Also how perfect is the lyric "Missed my chance , did not *ascend* " for Ruby? I think the most incredible moments are the self-reflective lyrics which is certainly what Ruby tells herself. "You don't get to say, "I miss you" - (Ruby keeps so much inside. She can't bring herself to face her grief.) You watched your heroes fade - (Her headmaster, her uncle, and even her mother, along with Pyrrha and Penny.) Into the rear-view mirror of the villain you portrayed - (She was the "villain" to Neo because of her optimism.) Stop the pity party, listen You don't get to be dismayed You don't get to be emotional Feel blessed you got it made - (Ruby tries not to let herself feel these emotions because they just slow her down.) These the best of years of life Because you chose to make a trade Recollect the days you hoped And you prayed for this" - Her role as a Huntress is what she traded her youth for. She traded everything to be like "the heroes from the books". "What is there to miss?" - This line is said with so much bitterness, and I feel captures Ruby's inner conflict. By pushing everything down as she does, she loses pieces of herself. V9 was a wake-up call for her and I am looking forward to seeing this renewed Ruby who is more honest with herself and others moving onwards.
I love at the end when it goes is it over it shows the end of vol.9 cuz that ending has left us all wondering if rwby is over or will it get greenlit for vol.10 😂
Stunning, as always. You absolutely nailed the soft, dreamy color saturation, and those panning transitions were so smooth. What you did at the end, overlaying other scenes in the background, it looked so good, and then you had my jaw drop again with the whole “it was a dream” bit, which was superbly done. You’ve been knocking out such stupendous videos lately, with some lesser known songs that make them all the more captivating, it’s been incredible.
