This concert (Stop Making Sense) starts with just him on the stage:minimal. More are added with each song building to maximum. It’s incredible. Amazing band. There are 4 main musicians. The others were added for the show. One of the best bands of all time
Members of Talking Heads David Byrne - vocals / guitar Chris Frantz/ drums Tina Weymouth / bass Jerry Harrison/ keyboards For this particular shootage,There are additional musicians ( Great ones),some backing singers. Adrian Belew That you heard playing guitar and singing with Zappa was part of the Talking Heads from 80 to 81...keep digging!!!
Might be the best concert film ever produced from both an entertainment and creativity standpoint. David was really coming into his own as a live performer about then. Life During Wartime a standout
You'll never see a concert where the backing singers (Ednah Holt and Lynne Mabry) have more fun... they skip, dance, mock David and have a great time, laughing, smiling and sweet singing. And the other keyboard player (Bernie Worrell) is from Parliament/ Funkadelic (or P Funk). Hi from Canada- Peace, love and bellbottoms.
I can’t really explain what this song means to me, it captivated me the first time and continues to do so - David Byrne dancing with the lamp is iconic! More ‘Stop Making Sense’ coming up my friend 👍🏻
@Rory Reacts i wrote this in a high school grammar paper when I was 15. I was imagining the Flintstones. Pebbles running into the wall when they picked her up and turned her around.
@@bobcorbin3294 yes it's one of the best concerts I've been to and loved the big suit plus Rory is going to absolutely love "Life During war time" !!!! I'm excited to see him play it 😁
That whole concert film is pure joy. My fav album from them is “Mkre Songs about Buildings and Food” but they are all good. Amazing band that is basically a four piece but they brought more side musicians into it over time
Although the live concert is definately an experience, you must listen to the studio version of this song. It is one of my all time favorites and has been my ringtone on my phone for years. When I die, if there is a service for me, I want this song to be played. Please check it out. ❤
Awesome! Need to react to " Burning Down The House" Talking Heads music is awesome to dance to or just swwwayy to the flow, I love the flow and the beat. Very very unique sound. Loved your reaction Rory! You definitely have a taste for the different, a very good quality in you!! Thank You for forgot who requested these. Oohh thank you Luke!! I really enjoyed that, Soo Fun To Watch!
I can't wait for you to hear more from Talking Heads. As others have said, this is from what is considered to be the greatest concert film of all time - Stop Making Sense directed by Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia). Demme came to Brooklyn several years ago to talk about one of his early films, Chained Heat at Nitehawk theater. My friend has a film series there and Demme graciously came out and was interviewed for maybe 30 minutes or so during which my friend Joe asked him about the making of this film. Very interesting answers. At the time I remember thinking Demme seemed too thin - and I wondered about his health. Turns out he had cancer and died less than a year after that night. I hope I have that interview somewhere a video from my phone. It's a wonderful movie for a band that was a huge part of my teen years. Great reaction as always. Sorry you got thrown in without knowing the context of the clip for Psycho Killer. LOL!!!! You're gonna love this rabbit hole.
They have sooo many great tracks : I know you’ll dig Blind, Mr. Jones, Totally Nude, (Nothing But) Flowers, Don’t Worry About the Govt, Making Flippy Floppy, Pull Up the Roots. (and really all of Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues) Byrne’s lyrics spoke to a whole generation, he was great at the weirdness of modern life but they were also about joy and humor of course.
Glad you've been getting into my favorite band from that era and one of the best rock concert movies made. This was a real band, not just a lead singer with studio musicians. If you watch the movie from the beginning (I see you did Psycho Killer), it starts out solo and then gradually adds more musicians through the first 4 or 5 songs. Core group were originally art students so they are visually sensitive.
Rory, you're in for such a treat with this band they are so very talented!!! David Byrne is a amazing writer and put together a fantastic bunch of musisians who are🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well! I've got research to do!!! Must know more about THEM! Best thought off the top of my mind - talented folks gotta be brave --- share their creativity. Fun time here....thanks.
Have loved Talking Heads right from the beginning. All of them were amazing musicians. But, David Byrne is a musical artist, and a visual artist, and a performance artist all rolled into one. He’s quite simply a genius. Never try to understand him. Just enjoy. Try listening to Born Under Punches, The Great Curve, or Slippery People. Brilliance like no one else.
Rory, you do know that Radiohead is named after a Talking Heads song and that David Byrne gave the laudatio when Radiohead were inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame?
My favorite version of my favorite song of all time

Talking Heads didn't do a lot of love songs, but when they did it was great. This is beautiful.
He's having so much fun dancing with that lamp :D

I like the women step backwards to make space for his lunatic dance part.
David Byrne is a god damn genius. Shout out to the great Tina Weymouth too.
I saw him live in 2018 for my birthday. It was incredible. Spiritual.

This, PULSE & Concert For George are always on high rotation on my video player.
