  • It's baaaaack, the 1972 Pontiac Ventura II has returned for some further sorting out in between car shows and it's time to address the starting issues. In the previous episode of this car we handled adjustments to the entire suspension setup of the car including new rear leaf springs, shackles, shocks, and a host of other things. The owners are very happy with our work on that so it's time to move on to the next weakest link.
    So what are our issues? Well, the starter almost always starts the car, but usually also makes some rather terrible noises. So, out with the transmission to get our eyes on the flexplate / flywheel to see if we think what's going on is actually what's going on. Simple enough servicing, just need to get it done!
    Fortunately for us these cars are pretty simple and really just a Chevy Nova hiding with some Pontiac body panels. Small block Chevy under the hood, and a TH350 transmission behind it? Piece of cake! While we're here, button up a few other little issues and she's ready to get back on the road.
    A few weeks back we showed you the first initial video with this 1972 Pontiac Ventura II as it came to us with quite a few woes and in need of sorting out. With that first opportunity to look the vehicle over we noticed a few things that needed to be addressed, some we took care of at that point while others we had to order in some parts and make a plan. With parts arrived, it's time to get busy!
    Step 1, replace the rear leaf springs with a matching set. Previously another shop had replaced one side (drivers side) but not the other (passenger side) which we thought was odd. Why would they do that? Well quickly we discovered the answer and the captured nuts had broken off and spun freely. But that's working on old cars they sometimes fight you!
    So, out with the old leaf springs and worn out bushings. In with new. Out with the old air shocked, in with a brand new adjustable shock from Competition Engineering. In addition, new shackles and 3" t style shock extenders from McBay Performance to get our shock travel right where we want it. After all THAT is sorted out, a quick little plug wire set creation and we're back in business.
    With all these new upgrades our customers 72 Ventura II is ready to get back on the road handling and riding MUCH better, while it may just be a Chevy Nova with a Pontiac nose... it's still one cool cool ride. Back to the customer and on the road for the weekend, until next time!
    Lucore Automotive is a small independent American small business located just outside Columbus Ohio. While we are a full service shop that maintains and repairs countless daily drivers we are also well known for our work on classics, race cars, and collector cars.
    We would like to thank all of our friends, fans, follower, supporters, subscribers, and most importantly customers for being here with us! Without the wonderful people who let us work on their toys, and help their dreams come true we wouldn't be in business.

      More Poncho content coming soon actually! More fixing on the '70, more fixing on the '71, more fixing and upgrades on a '69 Convertible annnnnd.... a new GTO project 😉

      We always try to keep our eyes peeled while working on projects like this. A good portion of the time what we end up doing are "fixing fixes" that have been done by... questionable means in the past. We certainly don't catch it all, but we do our best.

    Nice car & sounds good but I also would like it even more with Pontiac power- 400 cubes or more.

      Not going to argue with you there, it WOULD be great to hear a Poncho rumble from this thing instead of a SBC. But the headaches and cost to get there from here... yikes!

      No reason to change anything as long as all is well.

      @@mickangio16 very enjoyable just as it is, cool fun little cruiser with a healthy smallblock. Certainly not a racecar or street bruiser just something fun to enjoy on a sunny day.

    Enjoyed the video. Pardon the suggestion, I couldn’t help but, think that exhaust looked like a good candidate for an H pipe. Old school sometimes..

    LOOKS LIKE a Chevy v8 under that Pontiac. YOU guys need to talk to customer about doing some more work under that hood. MAYBE installing a Pontiac 428/455

    • @LucoreAuto
      @LucoreAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Sir, this little yellow machine is a Nova in Poncho clothing. Would certainly be a WHOLE different kind of monster with a 455 stuffed in that front end 😳

    • @w41duvernay
      @w41duvernay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LucoreAuto I'm a bigger fan of rhe 428. GM should have installed them on every last 60S GTO. With forged rods, and a good cam, and 80 psi oil pump they are hard to beat.

      @@LucoreAuto it would be very easy to take a 400 engine and stroke it out to a 428 with a Butler 4" performance stroker kit. RUN that by your customer, and run a built 200r4 trans behind it. I WOULD avoid using the post 75 400 blocks.

    • @LucoreAuto
      @LucoreAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@w41duvernay it would certainly turn it into a whole different monster, but at a pretty significant cost. As a fellow Pontiac person I do love 'em, but let's be honest about how much building a stroker Poncho for this thing would COST. One of the biggest benefits of SBC power, cheap and easy to make decent reliable power.
