    This scene is incredible and as soon as John hears the name Gruber you can just see the shock and horror in his face even though John stopped and killed Hans you can tell the Nakatomi incident was a traumatic experience for John and hearing the name of the man that almost killed him and his wife again gave him a ptsd moment! • @dustinf49
      @dustinf49 3 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      @@zufgh Let's see.. I remember seeing the original _Die Hard_ in theatres in 1988. At that time, long before social media, it just went without having to be said, that Alan Rickman's performance as Hans Gruber was brilliant. Even today, he remains many people's favorite movie villain.
      So, when this one came out in 1995, some 7 years later, seeing Hans Gruber was pretty much the last thing people expected to see.
      As the whole movie was filled with puzzles, the revelation that they were dealing with Hans' older brother, Simon, sent a level of shockwaves, in the forms of oohs and ahs, along with some "Oh %*#@!!s" throughout the audience.
      "Does the name, Gruber, mean anything to you?" That line, alone, would have been enough, but when it cut to him falling from the skyscraper, it sealed the package.
      I was 15 years old at the time, and it was the first time I'd ever been a part of such a collective reaction at a movie theater.
      It would also be the last time.

      A Leyva
      Supposedly, he was in the first Die Hard at the very end. He didn't have a major role and he didn't have lines, but he was there. At the very end, when John McClane and Holly emerged from the building, and the FBI and police went in to do their sweep and clear of any remaining terrorists, he walked past the camera wearing his dark glasses long coat and a derby hat. But that was definitely him. I guess he was some kind of government level agent (FBI, CIA, or somewhere in between) who was investigating Hans Gruber and learned of Simon off screen before "With A Vengeance" came out. That's the theory I was told.

    I'll probably catch a bit of flack for saying this, but is it really surprising that Peter Krieg and Hans Gruber were brothers? Yeah, it definitely wouldn't be anyone's first guess that the 2 were related, but Simon spoke with a *German* accent and was very, very pissed off at McClane. I feel like that would've narrowed it down quite a bit when thinking of suspects (Honestly, how many Germans does McClane run into on a daily basis?)
    Nobody even thinks of the L.A. incident until after Gruber's name is mentioned.
    Of course I know that movies do that kinda stuff to surprise the audience but I'm thinking about it from the characters' perspectives.

    As I remember it : i went into this film knowing that Simon was Hans' brother. To be honest, I thought it rather cliched then. Been a while since I've seen it in full : was a bit puzzled as to whether it was revenge or I think as Simon puts it that's not his no 1 priority but perhaps a nice 2nd. I do remember thinking the exploding boat towards the end did look shoddy ! Also : the end of Die Hard 2 reinforced all was good with McClaine and Holly....then this film tells us it's all gone to shit !

    • @atomato5989
      @atomato5989 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Die Hard 3 pretty much ignored Die Hard 2, which I think was a good idea; 2 was shoddy, even if them blowing up a real plane was pretty awesome.
      I like to think the proper Die Hard timeline is Die Hard and Die Hard 3. Forget about 2, 4, and 5.
