Imagine if little mac got a completly new redesign where he has better jumps, his rolls and spotdodges would be a bit better, no throws (in boxing throws are illegal ) but being a boxer, his feet won't leave the stage unless you jump, until certain percent(60% for example). He would be a unique character with a completly different mechanic and play style.
Little Mac’s playstyle is about forgoing gimmicks for being good at the essentials. It’s about surprising your opponent who thought he could get an easy win. But most importantly, it’s about never giving up, perserverance, and- GODDAMN IT NESS STOP USING PK FIRE
Playing little mac is just like punch out, you have enemies that have a clear advantage over you, so you block, dodge and take every oportunity to make damage, you have play patient and calm,and when you see the opening you do a finishing punch
Except, the clear advantage is way to big. Yes, his gameplay relies on baiting and Puccini at correct times, but it's way to easy to gimp or outrage him in almost every situation. It is nice when you hit those KO punches or smash attacks, but usually your opponent does way more to you than you can do to them.

People hate Little Mac for only one reason(his recovery and maybe his lack of air movement) which is fair But this dude ground game is Kazuya on crack, he is the 3rd fastest character in the game, and has near *perfect* ground game, and also, he hits like 500 trucks.
80% of this Little Mac gameplay is letting the opponent make a move, having them miss or mess up and then going in for the kill. Pretty true to form imo!

Honestly all he really needs is his offstage side b fixed. Little Mac can clearly be brokenly dominant in the right hands against the right player, and having a bad recovery balances that out to make him super risky to use. I just wish his recovery was only terrible instead of being a broken mess that barely works.

A better side B would make him better of course but hes still horrible in the air, and the top tiers of now (joker, wario, lucina) are great at juggling. Mac only has a small amount of tools to help him get out of the air like airdodge (can only be used once until you get hit or land) and counter (can be baited). If we want Mac to be more than mid tier then useful aerials are a must. Some that at least give him more options in the air
