I walked across the bridge in October 2022.... vacation for a week in Berlin and I took a day trip to Potsdam which is a fascinating city in its own right. Something I won't forget.....
Very interesting bridge which I have visited. Actually quite a picturesque location with a lot of trees and a nice lake view. Pity it was a key location in the cold war.
It was very interesting, thank you. You might like to know that there is a model of the bridge with all the cars and people there in the Espionage Museum in the centre of Berlin. I hadn't realised it the first time, but when you take the train from Berlin, the bridge can be seen - just before you get into the station at Potsdam.
You talked about people attempting to drive across the bridge but what about just swimming from East to West? For a good swimmer, not even an excellent swimmer, that isn't a bad swim at all. That's how I would have chosen to make my escape in the middle of the night.

That used to be my route to work ‘85-‘88.

Fences, guard/sniper towers and dogs, you don't know how the border between two germanies looked like, it's where the name iron curtain comes from.
Are you going to do a video on Erich Honecker? Theres a picture of him in your intro but it doesn’t look like you’ve done a video about him. 👍
Have you thought of doing a piece on Major Arthur Nicholson?
Glienicke bridge and Checkpoint Charlie performed similar roles.
At 1:50 you say that West Berlin was part of the FRG. It wasn't.
it was claimed by the republic and west berlin residents were also BRD citizens
@@SmokeyBCN Still it did not politically and legally belong to West Germany (FRG) until the reunification 3rd October 1990.
You'd think the GDR would have made some effort to match the paint colour.

I love the pathetic attempt to mask the name's Slavic origins by adding endless e's and other letters. Doesn't writing German get cumbersome?
Which name?
It’s about the same as Americans who can’t even pronounce their own germanic surname correctly.
@@certyfikowanyprzewracaczhu3390 I wouldn't either. The OP is obviously right-wing and a friend of Russia who's trying to push some agenda here.
Great video. Are you working on Klein Glienicke or Entenschnabel videos?
Thanks for sharing these ideas, Michael! At least Klein Glienicke is on my list of planned videos.
