Good to hear from you again MFR. Yes, building a sixytyclone is a bunch of fun and I wholeheartedly recommend them. Maybe we can expect an MFR SixtyClone review in the future? :)
@@aphexteknol I looked seeing your collection! Usually, i just see one or two you pop out to show Pier :-) I'm kinda fascinated by your rebuild of that "ancient' computer... Didnt understand 90% of the words... lol... but fascinated none the less! I have an old Kaypro II... that i thought i would fire up someday. That day hasn't come.. and probably never will... And, if it did... i dont really know what i would do with it... had a whole box of accounting(?) Programs and such with it. As they say... it seemed like a good idea at the time...
@@rinaeperron7746 Thats maybe only half of the pens I own as well. I've got even more in their original boxes, etc. Kaypro computers were really cool machines! One of the early portable computers you could buy (if you call 29 POUNDS portable!) But they were also considered serious business machines because they ran CP/M, so they maybe aren't as much fun to play with today due to the lack of fun games. @@aphexteknol no, i never throw anything out.. lol. I call myself a 'collector distributor'. I know all the good places to get stuff, and get rid of stuff... so it doesnt go into the landfills. So … bells do nothing, in case anyone was wondering. And, Mitch, dayum, that's quite the build! And purrrple, with an Aussie aftermarket case? I wonder if the original owner wanted anotehr hole for some other purpose, but besides reset and ROM, what else would they have needed? I also love how this thing is as close to new as can reasonably be done. Sadly there isn't really a modern replacement for the 6526 is there? 😞 No RIOT either. I don't really social media at all on any network, but I wanted to stop in and comment on this awesome build.
Nice to see you back! I've also been trying to make a dent into a collection of non-working C64s I have (>20+...ouch!). But I always try and pick the easiest ones to work on, lol. Look forward to seeing some more videos...-Mark.
@@aphexteknol I have repaired a good bunch in the last year although I always go for the easier ones so the remaining 26 units are gonna eat up more time than I have so I might be stuck Ebaying them as the remaining ones deserve a quicker re[air time than I can currently provide as I'm focusing on an A600,A1200, A3000 and PET 8032 with 4040+8050 and 9090. Welcome back! Love the purple boards. And the nice CRT that I envy. I am wondering, do you come from the same are as the angry videogame nerd AVGN/Cinemassacre? I think your dialect sounds similar
Hey bwack! Good to see you again too! I still have the board you sent me to build as well, but I sort of stalled out halfway through collecting the parts I needed. Also I've been an AVGN fan since back when he was the Angry Nintendo Nerd. I think hes from New Jersey originally and lives somewhere outside of Philadelpha PA. I'm from the Dayton OH area, so kind of surprising we both have similar accents. Strangely, due to the area I am from, the "dialect" I have is considered to be the plainest out of all of US English accents, so I always consider everyone else (US and abroad) to have accents! :)
Welcome back mate! That is quite the decked out 64. Fancy case too! I've got kind of the same thing going with my reloaded 2 board. Nice pixelwizard smokey dark case. Trying to find as many aftermarket modern replacements for all the Zif-socketed parts as possible. Hopefully we can have a fully futureproofed 64 soon. I totally agree with the U2+ sentiment. Gimme the old U2 any day (didn't pay that much just to not use it).
@@a4000t I mean, apart from the odd cap swap every decade, I think we're fine. Although now that you mention it, there was that RoHs thing a few years ago, about electron push tin migration? So maybe there's a logic chip sweetspot. Time will tell.
Thanks for stopping by! Also good to know I’m not crazy and someone else prefers the old U2 to the U2+. In my case, my U2+ seemed to misbehave with different revisions of boards and I was always fiddling with the timings. Whereas my U2 just worked on everything on the same settings. I’ve got a Reloaded MK2 setup as a PAL machine as well, so perhaps I should do a video on it as well one of these days?
@@a4000t Wouldn’t it be ironic if our modern replacement chips didn’t manage to last as long as the originals have? I for one intend on finding that out though! @@aphexteknol Please do! I bet there's quite a few tricks on that Reloaded mk2 board that I've completely missed. Mine won't work with the c64anabalt cartridge for some reason.
You were lucky, that must be a later sixty clone board. I had a earlier one where a ground plane was shorted and had to be "clearanced" to remedy the short. i think rev4 and up were ok.
466 is a easy board to build compared to some other revs,i built the same one :D the 6581 is THE sid to have. There are many digitized sounds that do not work on 8580 right.
There are modern JiffyDOS chips being sold? Where? I might need to buy some replacements because last I checked, my 1541 JiffyDOS (and possibly even the one in the C64) was acting up.
