Feeling blessed to have seen him perform live at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. I've been to a lot of live shows, but seeing Fats Domino is a treasured memory.
I seen him play at Hollywood casino casino magic at the time, my aunt lived around where he lived in the lower 9th ward and my little sister spend a lot of time at her house and she meant him a few times when was walking the neighborhood
I believe Fats Domino never got the full credit he really deserved mainly because of the wild men of rock and roll such as Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. Just my humble opinion.

Thank God we have the technology to preserve the music and performances of this giant of an artist. I loved him when I was a teen and I still listen to him regularly. He'll be with us for a long, long time.

I've been a musician for 51 years, I've got a few of his songs in my repertoire. Every time I play one of them, I get a good response from the audience, makes me feel good inside. RIP great one.

I can still remember my grandpa singing “I found my thrill……oooon blueberry hill” when I was a kid like it was yesterday. Sadly it was 40 years ago and he and the fat man have both moved on to another world.
My grandpa used chase my grandma around singing blueberry hill. He was half Louisiana creole and Mexican American. Makes me proud and happy every time I listen to Fats Domino.
He was and still is through his music a National / International treasure! Fats was a good man through & through! He set a standard not many can even come close too. Besides being a musical genius the man had class & set a good example for everyone !! I have no doubt he's got a beautiful pair of Angel wings & that he has the nicest sounding piano up in heaven & he's entertaining all the good souls up in God's kingdom!! But then I heard he had been living in Louisiana and they lost their home in 2005 Katrina. I was sad to hear he had passed away before they could rebuild it back. Peace be with his friends and family.
My late father's FAVORITE musician. I grew up listening to him. He told me stories how, in 1950s Louisiana, he was admonished by his father and older relatives for listening to a black man's music. It never deterred his love for Fats' music, and every time i hear his music i think fondly of my dad.

Fats was an icon and everyone in the music industry understood his awsome music ability his shows were entertaining and you never came away with the feeling that it could have been better due to fact that you were observing genuine R&B my brother bought home an LP from Fats which at the time I didn't think very much of but after him repeatedly playing it over and over again, I was amazed at his versatility he was indeed a musical genius in every respect. It wasn't necessary to compare him to Elvis, he was bigger than Elvis and I am sure Elvis was aware of this.

Me too. But thats not saying much cuz I never really liked elvis that much. I did before he started dressing flamboyant. I always like Fats though. Jerry Lee Lewis was far better than Elvis, as far as Rock n Roll. But JLL was a bit taboo.
I think we kind of forgot how famous he was. I also think he’s almost being punished (at least as far as name recognition in 2022) for never having any scandals or drug addictions like other rock n rollers from that era did (no such thing as bad publicity and all that). It sounds like he had an interesting life and I for one would love to see a good bio pic about him. But they would have to find the perfect actor to do him justice.

Maybe the stage fright developed and worsened over time. I love the stories about the riot on this video. Fats kills it on piano, and embodies the New Orleans sound. Louis Jordan is the original father of what was to become known as rock&roll with his 1949 hit song "Caledonia", and guys like Fats and James Brown followed his path. Jordan, like many early r&r musicians, had spent most of his career in jazz, especially with Lionel Hampton's big band. But when big band music started to fade he started playing rock&roll...as the jazz musicians of the day called it. Curiously enough, when white musicians and singers jumped into the burgeoning rock&roll craze following in the footsteps of guys like Jordan, the music universally known as "rock&roll" became rock&roll only when white guys played it, and was assigned the new name of "rhythm&blues when black guys played it. Crazy...but that was still in the time when there was an informal barrier separating anything black from everything white, and vice versa. So the music was separated accordingly...though it was the exact same form and sound...the exact same shared cultural trend. Nevertheless, it was still a creative dynamic period in america we should all take pride in.
