I really like this video and I am with you. I can use my ROG Ally or my Steam Deck as a daily driver if I so needed to. 99% of what I do is boring stuff with computers. TH-cam, audio stuff, online shopping, etc. Nearly pushing 40 years old, I don't really find a lot of time to game but when I do want to, I know the Deck or Ally (especially with that XG Mobile) would definitely serve the purpose. My biggest issue would be that as a Senior Cloud DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer, a lot of what I do is on a Mac or in a Linux environment. So Windows takes a back seat for me.
Thanks so much for your detailed reply and continued support! I can see what you're saying absolutely. I imagine as a DevOps Eng, that the keyboard thing would make you want to toss it out the window though? hahaha.
thanks a lot for this review, i think you're the only one who went that detailed. i was tthinking about buying the onexplayer x1 with a dockstation and the onexegpu (i already have a monitor and wireless mouse / keyboard). i'm asking myself if it can replace my desktop pc and my laptop for like everything (game, 3D, Vfx, 4k editing, watching movies etc). I'm just afraid about the long run... i'm afraid in 2 -3 year it wouldn't be able anymore to work properly. and after seen you're video seems like there's other stuff i should be aware of. wdy think about it ? Btw i was hesitating to do this also with the khadas mind( but waiting for the mind graphic and mind xplay) or with the minisforum V3. Thanks again !
I hadn't heard of the Khadas Mind, thanks for that, and also your detailed message. Truthfully I think the Mind looks a bit pricey for the specs. Minisforum tends to be a bit more competitive price wise when it comes to mini PCs as far as I know. With regards to the X1, it does look "competitive" in the use case, but the pricing is up there too, but in comparison to a Khadas Mind, it'd surely be more versatile. My concern is of course the post-purchase support. If you're planning to keep the device for 2-3 years, I'm not sure what guarantees you'd have going with a Chinese-brand, just because it might be difficult if anything goes wrong. That also said, I really think we're getting to a point where a dedicated desktop PC isn't needed at all, and what you're already outlining with a device that docks to an eGPU is a very near future. How much are you planning to spend on this set up?
@@gamers-generation thanks a ton for getting back to me! My main worry's actually the after-sales service. The Khadas Mind seems super promising, the power of a high end mini PC packed with all the versatility you'd want (well, once the Xplay's out). I've totally fallen for the X1, still on the lookout for more reviews, but it's shaping up to be just as flexible (if it's not even more). Totally with you on not needing a solid desktop, and the futur of eGPU setup. That's why the X-One seems like it could be my all-in-one solution. I'm pretty much glued to my computer, like 6-8 hours a day, juggling between surfing the web, editing, and dabbling in some 3D work. Price aside, I'm hoping whatever I pick lasts me a good 3-5 years. Thinking I might keep my laptop as a backup, just in case the X1 goes kaput and needs fixing. Do you know if there's any kind of paid warranty for tech buys from China, covering all shipping costs and such? What's your take on all this? Thanks again for your answer !!
Hey friend! So sorry I missed your messages, strangely the replies didn't set off my notifications.@@jokeizi213 With regards to your questions, I think it boils down to your primary use case, it's difficult IMO for any one person to say this handheld (or laptop, mini PC, etc) is better than the other for a person, except for objectively demonstrating say performance, price, and features. What do you want primarily in a device? A laptop first? A tablet first? A handheld first? For me while I wanted to love the OXP2, as I mentioned in the video there were things that fell short for me. Currently I think for my use case, the Legion Go and The Win Mini are the ones that check the most boxes for me as someone who wants a handheld/mini laptop with portability in mind first. In those examples, they both serve slightly different niches too. About the warranty, as far as I would guess, I don't think there's any warranty outside of China, or it would be difficult to get one. As for keeping the device for 3-5 years, that's a VERY long time in the tech world, sadly I think most cycles are 1-2 years (only because the companies want to sell more hardware of course). But If you take advantage of things like the oculink port on the X1, then yeah I could see that as a possibility. Though I think the real game changer for desktop replacements is yet to come... stay tuned for my next laptop and eGPU videos for an update on that!
@@gamers-generation Hi ! no worries at all, and thank you once again for your response! In the meantime, I've been through some research and absolutely agree with your perspective that the era of desktop replacements is on the horizon. I think i'll wait a lil more. Regarding my initial requirements for the device, it seems we are on the same page, I am looking for a handheld/mini laptop that offers the flexibility of docking for a complete desktop experience, especially with an eGPU. I am inclined to wait for the release of a 32GB version of the handheld devices like the ROG Ally 2 or Legion Go. The addition of an Occulink port would perfectly meet my needs. I'm excited to see your futur video !
this is a review that i need for so long. I hoped the review kind a positve one. 😥 at least this is the closest one as the one to rule them all. Rather than win max 2 for work first maybe i'll wait for pocket 4 later this year. Great video, watched it 3 times already
Thanks so much for your kind words and multiple views! I really did want to like the device more, but for me specifically I think there are too many compromises. Which Pocket 4? Retroid?
@@gamers-generation gpd pocket 4. it will be released based on gpd timeline but confirmed by the official account on my comment in one of their videos. but it will be 8 inch laptop-tablet first without any joycon-joystick. I don't mind attaching or bring a small one as long as it could be used as all in one machine that fits a small bag.😀
A great way to use this is with a dock with multiple usb a connectors. Can have you whole desktop experience that way plus video out (if you want that). The controller connector leaves alot to be desired. For example, i could use the controller connector after fully charging it for 5 minutes and the next time i connect the controllers to it it won't turn on. I'll have to charge it for 5 or so minutes then it will hold the connection. It's definitely a bummer, but for the price i purchased mine at it's such a good device for production (the keyboard is sufficient, but i wouldn't write an essay on it).
Thanks so much for your detailed comments. I went into the device (not as my first Windows handheld) but going in hoping that it would "do it all"... Unfortunately I think there are just too many compromises for me specifically. And we definitely agree on the connector... it really is a shame. As for the stick caps, I used them as well for a time, but maybe the ones I got weren't the best as they kept sliding off. The sticks are definitely not the worst part though, I didn't even mention (because I forgot) the hardware buttons like volume +/- that don't work properly without the onexplayer center or onexconsole... yikes.
@@gamers-generation yes I suggest getting the newest one console application (I think you have it) it allows you to change the volume up and down keys to either be hot keys or control the volume. Honestly I bought a onexplayer mini pro and it's the same chip... Probably gonna sell my player 2 and buy a legion go (after watching a few preliminary reviews don't want what happened to the rog ally to have issues similar on the legion go). Honestly it has a much faster and energy efficient processor for lower tdps compared to a 7840u and comes in at 750 compared to the 1100 I paid for my onexplayer 2.
Also I've been having issues when launching onexconsole that handheld companion will automatically activate the rumble motors. It can bee fixed by just adjusting the strength of the rumble in handheld companion, but still kinda annoying 🤣🤣
@@gamers-generation yeah and I would like to think of it as an extension piece that can work on it's own, but can be added to (monitor, dock, accessories, and external GPU) to make it great on its own or amazing for more sedentary desk gaming....
Well I said I would watch this video and I’m a man of my word. Long overdue I know, but I hadn’t forgotten to sit down and watch this one. It’s interesting watching this one after getting the One X Player X1 and using the keyboard and accessories for it … and for a second I thought that was actually you in the video - kidding. Another great video with essential points on the One X Player device. Thats for the information and perspective on this gaming device.
Handheld control panel developer here: I programmed the whole thing on gaming handhelds so yeah you can definitely use it as a desktop
You stop it sir! Just 'cause your program fixes their problems doesn't mean I'll endorse their product! kek

Win Max 2 with oculink/USB4 makes it the best for me
That would definitely work as a desktop replacement. I'm curious what you think of the ergonomics for the WM2 though?
Thank you so much for the serious and detailed review. I was planning to buy this but I think I’ll hold on for now.
