    Fishing a full Mono Rig system allows for abundant versatility -- but not without the line hand. Unless you’re tight line or euro nymphing at very close range, then your line hand needs to do some work. In truth, it should do a lot of work.
    Many tight line anglers miss the importance of their line hand. But just as we strip and hand twist to recover slack with a fly line, the same skills are necessary while fishing a Mono Rig.
    There are important reasons to use our line hand, and there are a few ways to do it. This latest Troutbitten video covers it all.

    Hey Bro, Awesome video. I like to use a shorter rod 8'6" - 9'6" and developed a similar method with nymphs. I refer to as micro-jigging. I have been corrected multiple times by older fly-fishermen when stripping nymphs, but it catches Trout !
    Thanks For The Knowledge !

    Thank you for the great educational videos. I have watched them over and over to learn and educate myself on the various techniques and styles to nymph fishing and reading water. The level at which you demonstrate is a valuable tool to someone like myself.

    I'm not a euro nympher but my takeaway from this video is to cross your laces over before lacing through the speed hooks! I just tried it tonight and my boots didn't need tightening half way through my walk to the first hole. Fantastic!

    • @Troutbitten
      @Troutbitten  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HA! The laces . . .that's great.
      I'm not a euro nympher either. I just fish, usually with a fly, and I fish whatever works best. Keeps it fun.

    Love your vids and podcast. Shame one of our fishing regions here in New Zealand doesn't allow a mono rig so I have to use a euro line there and end up using it everywhere to just have one setup. But I will give a mono rig a good run this summer as I have found an easy way to set it up quickly on my normal line. A spanish friend put me onto high viz mono saltwater tapered leaders. They are 15m long and taper from 0.65mm down to 0.35mm. It's high viz orange so I don't even really need a sighter. Can just uni knot it to my fly line and away I go. Keen to hear your thoughts on that setup and if you have tried it before?

    • @Troutbitten
      @Troutbitten  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to give my thoughts.
      I strongly prefer tying my own rigs. Your rig that starts at .65 is too thick, in my opinion. The tapers are never right for me. I'd rather control things with my own build. My butt section starts at .43mm.
      Also, what regs do not permit a mono rig? What is the leader length permitted? If the fly line is not outside of the rod tip, you essentially have Mono Rig performance. I prefer a leader long enough to have it in my hand, so the junction is not in the guides, and it is more sensitive. But where regulations do not permit this, then going as long as is allowed is a fine substitute.
      Cheers.

    • @CrazyAboutFlyFishing
      @CrazyAboutFlyFishing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Troutbitten thanks for your thoughts. I'll definitely test both setups. Might use some rig holders to carry both for quick changing.
      The regs in the Taupo region allow for a Max 6m which is around 18ft leader from the fly line so on the bigger water the fly line connection would constantly be running through the guides. My current setup is a euro flyline with a superglue splice straight to 0.30 bicolor sight of 12 foot. That allows me 6 foot of tippet to my furthest fly. The superglue splice is nice and smooth through the guides and holds well. It works well enough but not as smooth as mono would be.

    Hey Dom, Have you used the Rio Technical Mono Euro Nymph Fly Line? Just wondering what you think about it. I'm thinking the Technical Mono Nymph Fly Line is a hybrid version of the mono rig. I'm enjoying it. Thanks for the great videos, recommendations, and gear reviews!

    • @Troutbitten
      @Troutbitten  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Allen. I'm glad you are enjoying it, and you found something that works well for you. If you like it, I would not change.
      Because you asked . . . no, I don't care for euro fly lines. They are thicker, sag more, are less powerful and less sensitive than a Mono Rig. They exist as a workaround for FIPS competition rules. For the rest of us, they are an unnecessary handicap and can hold you back by their lack of versatility and more.
      Article on all that:
      Troutbitten: Euro Fly Lines vs The Mono Rig
      troutbitten.com/2021/01/04/euro-nymphing-fly-line-vs-the-mono-rig/
      All that said, mono core euro lines beat braided core, for me. At least they have some power.
      Cheers.

    7:23 do You always throw your line ends to the river? 😕

    • @Troutbitten
      @Troutbitten  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, but you've made an unfair assumption. That's NOT the line end. That's the fly attached to the line and ready to fish. In fact, I rarely clip my tags, because I use a Davy knot, with nearly zero material waste.
      But thanks for your concern . . .
