Questions, but for the convenience, savings and playability after getting new heads it becomes a keeper for sure!

    One more mod you can do to the bass drum....since its so small, you could attach a couple of internal mufflers (one on each end). That and burying the beater will probably give you a sufficiently dry enough bass drum (since the front head is vented, which helps a lot in drying out a bass drum) that you can probably pull that towel out of the bass drum and realize a much "larger" and even more impressive sounding bass drum.

    Sounds amazing. I actually got rid of a kids set because I didn't think it would have the potential of multiple sized kids being able to enjoy it. Had been focused on maybe something with a bigger small kick, like an 18 or 20. But that 16 sounds perfect for practice at home, or even a small gig.

    Anyone who thinks this kit doesn't sound amazing is probably still drinking the tonewood marketing Koolaide. All logical people know that drum shells don't matter. Drums are just two heads vibrating together. #staywoke
    Also never mind the fact that my channel shows that I own a Sonor Maple drum kit.

    • @dustinthiessen
      @dustinthiessen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ah fuck off... wood, and shell construction definitely make a difference in the sound, but good heads, tuning, and playing technique make more difference. I own several different kits, with different shell types/construction and they all sound different with the same heads, and me tuning and playing them. what's the best sound? that's completely subjective to the player and listener, but you can't say it makes no difference. even the finish makes a big difference, if it's lacquer, or a wrap, or a stain/oil finish...

    • @pyroeuropa
      @pyroeuropa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I disagree with drums, but agree with guitars in terms of tonewood. I can clearly hear a difference between my Birch and my Mahagony/poplar kit with the same bearing edges. A dude put electronics for a telecaster on a fence and it sounded like a tele...

      @EarthtonesCymbals 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sound amazing? That is not the way I would describe their sound. Maybe in the decent to not bad range though? Also...a drum shells material is a contributing factor to a drums overall sound. I mean, what about steel, brass, acrylic shells? Not to mention the vast variety of hard and soft woods? To say they "don't matter" is definitely not an evidence based statement.

  • @Tricknologyinc
    @Tricknologyinc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    ATTN: SNARE FIX!!!! Strap the fixed end of the snare between the rim and head. Spread the two strap ends so they straddle the lug and fab simple clamps buy cheap snare clamps and just go minimalist on the clamp. All you need is something that won't slip between the rim and head. Conceptually think eyelet on a guitar string but a clamp. The adjuster side will be a standard adaptation taking an angle grinder and slotting the rim and you know how to mount the tensioner, so take it from there!
    Actually you could use a metal strap on the fixed side and weld some cleats on it. As long as you sand everything real smooth so there's no burrs or edges that can compromise the head, you should be good!

      Totally possible to put snares on a 10" snare. However, the snare is a 5 lug drum, so there is no way to mount a strainer/butt plate since there isnt a straight shot between lugs, if that makes sense. Since you mentioned that Mapex, I might use that as the main snare and convert the original snare to the floor tom.. hmmm...

    • @Jellybean199611
      @Jellybean199611 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rdavidr You might be able to add a proper strainer and butt plate if you install them super close to two lugs, if that makes sense. Of course, the snare wires do not have to be perfectly centered. It would probably be a lot easier to try and make that into a "floor" tom, though. Imagine a super small and shallow floor tom with giagantic legs...
