That’s the whole point, forces landlords to either short sale, foreclosure, or just sell. Then the rich come in and buy up all the properties “ probably Chinese”. People make excuses if they haven’t gotten ahead in life probably because they made all the wrong decisions when they were younger. Now it’s just easier to put the blame on someone elSe. I was a good landlord cuz I know what it’s like to struggle. But when you start to take advantage and no pay rent when I trusted you to rent my home and that takes food outta my families mouth, business is business and my family comes first... always!!!

I'm not that worried about the virus cause it has a very low death rate. I know lots of people that have had covid and they are fine. But the thought of not having a home and food terrifies me. After all their living high off the hog off our tax dollars while we struggle to make ends meets. Seems fair to me. They've gotten more than all of us and they produce and create nothing but trouble for us while living off of our money. It is nonsense that renters are still expected to pay $900 with roommates. I thought the idea was to save money with roommates, not spend more money. Everything in NYC is overpriced, though including housing. I live in a quiet & beautiful neighborhood in the northeast. Costs of living in the northeast is exorbitant. I only pay $725 per month with heat & hot water included for my beautiful 1 bedroom apt. My electricity & gas services never surpass $55 or $60 per month. I live in proximity to a lot of amenities. Ppl have to think abt the value they're getting when spending all their income on houses they'll never actually own. Ppl overspend on mortgages & no one owns housing in the U.S.A. Banks own these properties and foreclose upon properties quickly when property taxes aren't paid and mortgage payments lapse.

@@realdeal139 While I do agree that wages were not rising a lot before the pandemic, inflation has been low. Upper corporate salaries have really gone up in comparison to middle class and low wage workers, and that is where the disparities are. But wages now are really rising, catching up with where they should have been, so in July 2021 employment shouldn't be the reason the 21% of people are not paying rent.
Think of the economics this way, if there were an over abundance of rentals, there would be a lot of empty rentals and the rental rates would go down to a degree. Rents still have to cover expenses, otherwise rentals just go away as not being viable. If you shrink the supply of rentals, the scarcity would increase demand and the supply of rentals go up. So there is a minimal rate for rents. If rental assistance is feeding the supply of rentals, then that will be part of the demand for rentals, and rents will rise as there will be more renters than rentals. This is part of what is "Systems thinking" or Systems planning."
Which that argument is a small part of the pandemic moratorium. The pandemic eviction moratorium was supposed to be in place until the vaccine is out. Dr. Fouchi said he would like to infection rate to be under 3%, and now the vaccines are long available, there are more shots than arms, the infection rate is something like 0.4%. Whether wages have not kept up with inflation shouldn't be a part of that decision, its an outside issue.

I’ve never gone broke by giving.

I am in Florida and I don't owe rent but the owners decided to sell the house I have rented for 14yrs and give me a 30 days notice during a pandemic and in the middle of a rental shortage, especially since our October hurricane. If I had stiffed them rent, I would be protected. I may be living in my car in 2 weeks even though I did everything right. My car needs work, so no telling how long that home with last me. I also never got the 2nd stimulus and can not afford to move right now due to the hit my credit and income have taken during the pandemic. I don't even know what to do. Guess what? Nobody cares what happens to me. We are in it together until we aren't.

I feel sympathy for the tenants AND the landlords, at least the ones who own only a few properties and who are suffering about as much financially. I understand why state and local governments have had eviction moratoriums, but it's also wrong to expect small landlords to eat all of the losses since they could go under themselves. There needs to be an AQEQUATE reimbursement fund for small landlords.

I say this as someone with a husband w/o a pancreas(immune compromised), a 2 yo child and myself having limes disease (immune compromised). I do have compassion, but you have to work with what you can get to make it thru, I've been homeless, and that was after 6 months on chemo working part time, if I can do it, so many others can too.
