    I really enjoy picking up the old European and Mexican gold coins, because I can typically pick them up at melt price from my LCS. But if I have to buy a gold coin with a premium on it, I would definitely stick to US or sovereign minted coins.

    Hi, 2. I have a 20 Frank, 1911 Napoleon. I carried that coin in a 2x2 in my wallet for 30 years in case of emergency. I paid $79 for it back in the late 80s. *TYU*

    Really odd. No matter kind of garbage I take to my LCS they always offer me more than I was expecting, including some trash no name didnt think it would sell silver I had a few years back here.
    Their 'lowball' might be to off you a hair under spot if they are thinking the prices are sketchy and may drop soon, but thats the worst case scenario.

  • @TtheSilverStacker
    @TtheSilverStacker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like them because I can buy them cheaper. I know that I will get gold value and not numismatic value. That’s why I avoid the ones that have numismatic value built in to the purchase price. My latest video shows them.

    I can imagine. It depends on your location, though. Over here in Europe it’s the other way around: the 20 Francs are highly liquid and the market for pre-33 American gold is very thin.
    Modern bullion coins are liquid everywhere.

    • @2is1gold

  • @_Hound_

    I've always been surprised that there isn't some standard weight/ purity of gold going back centuries, or even millenia, especially among European peoples. I low key wish there weren't a such thing as 22k/916. If the only options were 900, and 999+, then there wouldn't really be any confusion regarding the value of old, or foreign gold coins, and jewelry.

    • @2is1gold

    My coin shop today;(I asked about 20 franc and Sovereigns). I was told while the premiums they charged are lower 5% versus American Gold Eagle 1/4coins was 13%,(same 5% on 2 Rand coins - but also looking at below Spot) when the time comes to sell - most likely getting less than Spot gold price for the franc and Sov. So I went with the Eagles

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine give me 8% back of spot on 20 Francs LMUs. That's a hard pill to swallow. They give 2% over spot for Eagles. Cheers!

    • @russream3732
      @russream3732 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2is1gold wow; 8% less than spot when selling - that is very tough to swallow. I was really wanting to get into the Franc (.187) and Sovereigns (.235/.24) from a “stacking low prem coins”. My other fear is that if everything “actually” goes sideways none of these Coin Shops are going to give us anything BUT SPOT PRICE for gold - I can hear them saying “Spot gold is (insert price) and that’s what it’s worth”. As much as people hate the Comex and LBMA for price fixing,…I think we will be again at the mercy of the Coin Shops only giving us Spot Price. But then this is why I consider gold and silver my long term storage and hopefully by the time I need to exchange any of it the prices for metals will more than eclipsed my initial purchase prices (kinda like when I bought 1/10 eagles in 2008, cough cough way overpaid, but today with the price of gold I am more than covered for those purchases. Thanks for the channel - keep the videos coming.

      @@2is1gold Not realy, there are quite premiums, Austrian Empire 10 Corona (3,39g, 90%) has like 15-20% premium, if newly minted, original from 1903 goes like double the gold price because of numismatic value. So, pretty hard to buy cheaper, I have 2 such coins for acceptable price (not great, but not disaster). Dukáts (3,49 g, 98,6%) are even more crazy. And I do not get, those sell like hot cakes for crazy money. I do not plan to buy anymore. Philharmoniker 1 oz is way to go for raw gold...

    • @frantiseklaluch6605
      @frantiseklaluch6605 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2is1gold NOTE: dukát is standard, there are 1, 2, 4, 5, 10 multipliers of 3,49 g 98,9 %, also 20 francs (swiss, belgie, france, lei, lire,) = 8 floren is always 6,45g of 90% gold no matter what state. 10 francs (4 floren) is half. So, there are some standards... I have spreadsheet for price calculations with a lot of these coins... Sometimes is luck tired, sits on donkey and I can buy for good price...
