    VERSE 1
    Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
    Weak and wounded, sick and sore,
    Jesus ready stands to save you,
    Full of pity, love, and pow’r.
    REFRAIN
    I will arise and go to Jesus;
    He will embrace me in His arms.
    In the arms of my dear Savior,
    Oh, there are ten thousand charms.
    VERSE 2
    Come, ye thirsty; come and welcome,
    God’s free bounty glorify,
    True belief and true repentance,
    Every grace that brings you nigh.
    VERSE 3
    Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
    Lost and ruined by the fall;
    If you tarry till you’re better,
    You will never come at all.
    VERSE 4
    View Him prostrate in the garden;
    On the ground your Maker lies;
    On the bloody tree behold Him;
    Sinner, will this not suffice?
    VERSE 5
    Lo! The incarnate God ascended
    Pleads the merit of His blood;
    Venture on Him, venture wholly;
    Let no other trust intrude.

      I love the line: "Sinner, will this not suffice?"
      It's a continual reminder to stop trying to earn God's favor, but just to rest in the salvation we have in Christ through His finished work.

    Venture on Him ,venture wholly , let no other trust intrude.
    Total surrender is only achievable by Complete confidence in the one your looking to.
    This song makes it very plain in a deep guttural declaration who you should lay prostrate before.
    There is no God and no other Savior.

    If you don't know the original tune, you should check it out. It better matches the text. And you won't have to get dinged for copyright usage, which is always what happens when people lift great old lyrics, and slide yet-another 1-4-5 tune behind it.

    The melody is so good..
    But struggling with the last line of the chorus “ten thousand charms”.. doesn’t sound biblical.

    • @clancymuldoon
      @clancymuldoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      One definition of charms is “the power or quality of giving delight.” I believe it points to verses like: Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures (charms) forevermore.”

    Is there a way to purchase the instrumental to your version of this song? I would love to introduce this to my church. We are small, but might in our love for Jesus and a lost world. Your version is right in my sweet spot to be able to sing. Either way, thank you so much for this amazing version. It completely spoke to my heat and spirit.

    The only thing I don’t like nor agree with is the part that says, “ he has 10,000 charms.” That is no where in the original song that was written in the 1800’s. No where. So what is the “ charms” mean? I’ve never heard such a description of Jesus. It doesn’t sound right or appropriate. Otherwise, this could have been my favorite song. I love her voice for sure and the song except that one part.

    • @bernadettel3738
      @bernadettel3738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree this stuck out to me as well. The charms does not fit nor is it biblical.

    • @jeffreyfowler2805
      @jeffreyfowler2805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The English word "Charms": a trait that fascinates, or delights or compelling attractivness. MW Dictionary. The term "Charms" became used for incantations, it is true but it is much like the rainbow in its biblical meaning being used for something other. Language gets adopted for other meanings over time but popular or contemporary culture shouldn't chage the meaning of a lyric any more than using the word "Gay" in Shakespeare should change the play into something the writer never intended.
      The original melody is going to exclude all but the blues singers in the congregation. This rewrite makes it more congregationally singable. I've done both versions and most can't sing the original, and if you are doing it in service and no one sings, what is the point? We are singing it in our service tomorrow.

      Interesting as I love that line….which is actually “there are 10,000 charms”.
      It made me think of my dear departed mom’s charm bracelet…which was so dear to her as it was a gift from my dad on their engagement day…and marked the milestones of their life together ❤️
      And to me describes the wealth & surety & riches we have in Christ! So precious!!!
      🥰🥰😭🙏❤️
