We need this introspective understanding of top players. It makes us all better and the game better when we approach it objectively in terms of game play and still enjoy the game fundamentally.
What Tom Rose proposed was that when time is called the current turn ends and then there is one more turn. Not one more turn for both players. This way if you slowplay your opponent gets the last turn, encouraging players to keep a reasonable pace. A single additional turn would obviously also take much less time to complete.
Big events are definitely mentally draining. I would’ve never thought I’d be as tired as I was after a 9 round regional. Drink a lot of water and pack your own food lol.
An idea for time rules would be both players get 1 more turn AFTER the current turn has ended. This way both players have an opportunity to do damage via a battle phase.
@@Paktcg come on let n3sh exist not hidden away up the tree 🤣 love the show love you guys honestly best Yu-Gi-Oh content is the guu cast keep up the great work 👍
I heard from another yugioh related podcast a totally different approach to a solution for time rules. It was basically so that the player going first starts the game as normal with 5 cards on hand and doesnt get a draw phase but the player going second starts with 6 cards on hand and also doesnt get his draw during the draw phase on their turn. What happens with this solution is that whenever players look at their 6 cards hand most times they don´t watch an opponent full combo before conceeding if the hand is not good enough, they have more options to interact with their opponent without compromising as much consistency on their decks since they can adjust numbers on their going second cards, and also player going first ,can choose to conceed if their plays have been interrupted too much to the point that they think they will not be able to stand a complete turn without getting otked
Some players want to gather information from the opponent in the first turn even of their hand is not good enough, and who knows, maybe the opponent also bricked or misplayed, so instantly scooping after losing the coin toss and even looking at the 6th card is not that good.
digimon rules are 45 min rounds, with a 5 min time extension or 3 more turns, current turn is t0, it doesn't normally help if two slow decks are playing but most other match ups it'll result in a winner
hi, thanks for your comments, really the match with esala was the most difficult of the tournament and the quick saved me and I could continue playing xD... Ty
What would you guys think about a time rule that checks a certain life point diffrence instead of just any diffrence? Like for example for one player to win in time it would take over 4(?)000 LP difference. That way 99% of the time win cards dont work while the game still ends quicker? Thoughts ?
I 100%agree with Josh on his suggestion for time rules with one exception you also have to make it illegal to intentionally draw. This is how flesh and blood has done their time rules except that when time is called there are 3 additional turns (0,1,2,3) but even if I have full life and the opponent is on the lowest life it's still a draw. Where FaB has taken a step further is to make a draw not award the point it does in most TCGs it's basically a double loss. This very much promotes both players to try and finish the game in time and not slow play.
100% AGREE with people stealing Josh's deck the night before and just changing a few cards. LOOK AT THE 2ND PLACE DECK, LITERALLY HOW?!?!? is it SOOOO SIMILAR TO JOSHS DECK?!?!? XPLANE? Literally copy pasterino and change a few tech cards.
In magic if time runs out. You get 5 turns starting at turn 0 with active player. If no one wins you draw. But in magic you sre allowed to concede to your opponent. . Also in premiere level top 8s you have unlimited time to finish or in some it goes to sudden death after turns depending on the premiere event.Magic time rules are awesome. Also not being able to scoop the match in yugioh is so stupid.
When I played Pokémon I wasn’t a huge fan of the time rules due to stall out mill decks playing almost an entire game 1 out and leaving little time for game two, OR I would basically have to scoop as soon as possible and hope that I can get a game two for a draw at best. It was always tough to make the decision on whether to scoop early or not because facing those decks always felt like it was possible for the game to go my way
Unfortunately I think some yugioh players will find a way to exploit the time rules. That’s just the nature of competitive games and events. Some people want to win no matter the cost.
I think the draw idea is good as it will force konami to rethink card design too. And force people to speed play which better than slow play, you can't call someone for speed play.
people would still play in a more comfortable fashion if they think their chances of winning are lower. better to draw than to lose. so how would that discourage slowplaying?
In mtg you play 5 extra turns and if there is no winner there is a draw. In ygo this could be done with 1 or 2 turns, but that could take too long, or be too favored towards or against the player who's turn ended in time.
i love this draw idea tbh, (if there isn't a winner at the end of time procedure it ends in a draw) this will stop some of thems slow plays from happening imo
@@elijahbarfoth1832 if you are in a losing position, you would still have an incentive to play a little bit slower. a draw is still better than a loss. i don't think it will reduce slow play, it will however, kill the stupid summon resonator or send bug plays. in pokemon, the either get all 6 prize cards or draw concept works well but yugioh is more focused about card advantage and creating unwinnable positions for your opponent. And pokemon doesn't have these take forever combo decks usually
on the discussion about time, having more time for games in top 8 and above or only top 4/finals makes sense to me. it's not uncommon to give more time in the finals, look at tekken or other fighting games: while a different type of game, all tekken matches are best of 3 except for winners/losers finals and grand finals, which are best of 5.
The chess timer idea fully works tho like u tap the clock every time you do an action and the person whose lp goes to 0 or runs out of time first gets smacked
I missed top cut at locals yesterday because my match went to game 3 against runick sky striker. I lost the die roll, he won on his turn game 3 main phase 1 by 100 LP because time was called and he used a sky striker card to gain off of Kaina effect. I can't stress enough how much i agree with the need for the rules around games ending in time need to be revisited.
I think the MTG/Pokemon/Digimon concept of ignoring LP and just calling it a draw after *some* amount of extra turns would be the correct approach. I can only speak for MTG here but the reason it's done like that there is twofold: 1) There are viable, dedicated burn and/or life gain strategies in MTG. They would have an insane advantage in time if LP would be relevant. Also, there are a lot of decks that either burn themself very aggressivly or don't care about LP at all because their wincon is not reduce the opponents LP to 0. 2) Pretty much every deck in MTG plays so called Fetchlands that cost 1 life to activate. and you need lands to play everything else. Imagine the current ygo time rules but you have to pay 400 once before you activate your first card in your turn. It would screw up everything. Now obviously that leaves the issue that controldecks (like runick spright) naturally have a very hard time in MTG because no matter what they cannot win in time if G3 starts with like 5 minutes on the clock. The solution to that is... well, you gotta play fast with these decks. Controlplayers know that they are at a natural disadvantage in tournaments and they have accepted it a long time ago.
I literally don't know what deck to play. I don't want to play spright or tear because it's to expensive in my opinion. At the moment I play floowandereeze, the only reason why: it's cheap and a anti meta deck. Please give me some tips what to play (for regionals and ycs etc..)
