Those credit card bills are always a treat, aren't they?! 😯 Just some thoughts from a 71 year old woman who has been through much! If you have a library card, you can check out books for free to read on your Kindle. Also, my daughter loves books, too, and was an English professor, so she has lots of them. She goes through her books every once in a while and takes them to a used book store where they buy them. She clearly doesn't get what she paid for them, but whatever credit she gets, she just buys other books. She rarely has to pay anything for them. So that's always an option. I don't know how much Target party decorations are these days, but for what you bought, it sounds like Dollar Store would be a good option for you. I know it doesn't sound like much, but you could save a few dollars. Their cleaning supplies, like the dish brush you purchased, are also quite good (I mean, for a little over a dollar), so that's a consideration. Sometimes, I'm driving past fast food places and I think, "I should just stop here and get something to eat." As I'm approaching, I start to think, "That's going to cost almost $10, maybe more (these days) and I'd rather use that money thrifting." I always talk myself out of stopping. But I was recently in Target and there's a Starbuck's in there, so I stopped and got a grande mocha for which I paid a whopping $6!! I probably get Starbucks maybe twice a year, but when I do, I'm always reminded of why I don't. lol I raised 4 kids and really had to budget my money, so I certainly understand the strain of having to watch every penny. But it does help develop the creative muscles to figure out what can be done instead. It's like when Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dream of the feast and famine years. God showed him that you prepare for the famine years by setting aside during the feast years. We all need to learn the fine art of self-control, even during the feast years, so we can set aside for the famine years.
I agree do the mortgage for 200.00 a month. I did it for so long and I was surprised how soon I could retired without a mortgage. You right about shaving so many years off. My only regret was I wish I had started this method sooner. I was 40 years old when I started this. Love your videos. Have a great day.
If you look at your mortgage amortization schedule, you can see how much goes to principal each month. Once you’ve made your minimum monthly payment, you can add the principal amount for the next month (or however many months you want). In the beginning of the mortgage, you can knock months off your mortgage for like $125 extra. I hope this makes sense! It’s hard to explain in a TH-cam comment.
This was so fun to watch! My husband and i have been doing no spend for a couple of months The mindset shifts are definitely the biggest takeaways! And ill say we’ve had a ‘fail’ or two every month but its like a muscle, you get better and better the more you do it. Not impulse spending is such a hard behavior to modify but it gets so much easier as you do it and its so worth it and makes the biggest difference
Sounds like this challenge has given you some good insight. I wonder how things would go if you did a No spend weekend, week or set day every month. Most things can wait a day or two to buy. I bet you will come up with creative alternatives and get a little more organized and thoughtful about your store trips. I personally love the fun aisle as I call it at aldi, but with two Littles at home, it's just easier to do a pick-up order, and I spend less.
I think it’s a great start but lots more you can do . I’m currently trying this myself and my take away so far is that my downfall is buy snacks ! And with it being Christmas it’s harder to not buy stuff but I saved a few hundred this month 🎉
My husband and I have a budget and when the pay comes in it gets divided between all the different categories such as fuel, insurance, electricity, savings...there's a lot. We get $30 each per week that gets sent to our personal accounts and we get to use that however we wish. I highly suggest this, when we were younger without kids or a mortgage we had way more personal money, and we wasted sooo much. I bought so much stuff and most of it I wish I never had. $30 is enough to get a few coffees out or a book or two or a meal or if you don't spend it then you can save up quite a bit over time for larger purchases. Mightn't work for everyone but it works for us.
I make a list as the week goes on so I know what I need there but some deals you can’t miss out on buying. As for extra house payment when we owned a house I always paid extra on the principle each month by rounding up. Good luck on being more mindful of your spending. It always shocks me how much I spend.
If you do not mind audiobooks, there are several websites where you can listen to great quality ones for free. Or you can find them as PDFs and can read them on an tablet/e-reader. I know that paper books feel a lot better in the hand but the other way you can save money. Or use the library :)
Here's something that I do if I need something like fly traps I would look at my grocery bill take off something u really didn't need and added that amount in ..Wal-Mart also carries Zevo traps
Make the business separate from your regular household expenses. Also if you figure out how many gallons of milk you drink each week plan for that amount. Meal planning helps too
To pay your mortgage down quicker I would m ad me your monthly payment then right after apply extra money towards the principal only. Even 100.00 helps a lot that's an extra 1200 a year just a suggestion

This is so encouraging! Thanks for sharing vulnerably
You did very good. Be proud.
You did great. Sounds like you are very wise for your age. And walking into Target and leaving with nothing, now THAT is impressive!!!

Yay for walking out of Target without anything. It feels good!
The last 2 times to Target, I've left with nothing. Now, I don't go anymore.
I love Dave Ramsey and budget things so I think that would be an interesting video!!

Agree. That’s what I’ve done. It’s helped to get rid of so much interest over time
This was the motivation I needed!! Buying a house can make every want feel like a need 😆
Allison Thank You For Sharing This Video, ❤️ 🙏
Freezer Meals may help when illness strikes... Lots of easy crockpot meals or oven meals

I feel like the worst thing to do if being bored would be to browse shops, it’s like dangling a carrot.
I kept hearing nose bend instead of no spend 😂
