Unfortunately John’s thoughts changed hour by hour…especially over this period..he always spoke before he thought …I’m sure the boys knew that but it still grinds cause you can’t take it back…but deep down I think he was hurting. Saying that he was no good after the breakup depends on your perspective…if exploring musical boundaries without caring about commercial consequences if your thing…then he smashed it. He had a bit of this and a bit of that…a freedom that most artists would never have or even dare…. Can never doubt the man was an interesting individual. In relation to The Beatles he provided the edge, Paul the commonsense, George the spiritual and Ringo the good times…when they split they all lost out on those extra ingredients that made the group magic.

I don't think John was extremely jealous of Paul. I think there was a competition between them. John said they were both egomaniacs but also admitted that they (Paul and he) were both fu##ing brilliant songwriters (on a TH-cam interview). George Martin once said that he felt John wished he was as musical as Paul and that Paul would have liked to have been as lyrical as John. He ( Martin) didn't say much about Harrison, except that he was a
    " late bloomer." George
Martin fed into John & Paul's egos.

Baby brother Georgie made something neither of them could: An album that was on the level or even superior to most Beatles albums.
They did some very good albums, specially John, but George started his career achieving Greatness with ATMP and Concert for Bangladesh.
Today, younger generations pick Harrisongs among the most listened and favourite from the band.

It's funny but of all the Beatles I find Paul to have been the most talented, then George then John then Ringo. And that is a generalization. John was a great rhythm guitar player, exceptional songwriter, amazing vocalist but Georgian Paul had the same qualities too. And they were all top in their individual fields regarding their instruments. And I'm pretty sure if they were alive today they would all be hanging out together again maybe even have regrouped.

I like a lot of Johns music, but I prefer Paul’s entirely. Without Paul, I doubt John would’ve have gotten as big as he was-and in general, without Paul the beatles would’ve never been born. Also, at the time he was off and on heroin, which wasn’t helping his thought process at all.
Although, later on he did take back all those terrible things he had said about Paul and whatnot. Very ashamed of what he said before. But still, he calls it rubbish when he had Unfinished Music 1 & 2, then the wedding album. I’m not very fond of the man, at all. Not to mention what he did to Cynthia and Julian.

@@TheMakersRage it may have been his band, but Paul was the backbone. Paul was the biggest influence for them to stay in the studio, it had even been said in interviews before from George. That in those years, 13 albums wouldn’t have been made without Paul. Not to mention the songwriting partnership John *and* Paul had shared. I do believe that somewhere, John has said something about how the beatles would’ve never rose up to the fame they did without Paul.

John could be such a MAJOR Asshole! He was obviously jealous (Which he even sings about on one of his own albums). Apparently he never heard the phrase, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!" I still love John, but he had no problem hurting the feelings of every person he encountered - especially the people who loved him the most - which says more about HIM than it does the other people.
