Interesting to see Ron Mael before he donned his trademark conservative suit n tie slick back hair image which his image alone along with those facial expressions and rigid posture ultimately made him the star of Sparks, anyways great song and great to see early footage of this band, thanks for sharing!
A DJ from Windsor used to play this, early Roxy, early Queen and Bowie bootlegs we couldn't get in Detroit. He broke so much wild music in the early 70's.
All that hair! Great clip. What a treasure. As a huge Beefheart fan, I notice that the drum pattern sounds a lot like "Bat Chain Puller," which came out in the late 70s. Beefheart always claimed that the drumbeat for his song came from being influenced by windshield wipers but I have to wonder if he didn't hear "Wondergirl" and either consciously or subconsciously, decide to crib that beat!
The very early Sparks music like 1967's Computer Girl and this, their 1971 Wonder Girl track are so so far ahead of the curve it's untrue, though the 4/4 metronomic beat has echoes with Neu! who were making 'motorik' music in Germany at the same time Sparks were performing this song on German TV!
I believe the first time I got a look at Sparks was in 1974 on In Concert or Don Kirschners Rock Concert.. I was 14 years old and I was stunned and captivated by everything about them. Love them.
OK I managed to subscribe after watching you on Pondo Ponds broadcast the reason I had problems is I am visually impaired I call myself blind he says I’m visually impaired so I’ll go with that but I’m looking forward to being on your channel glad I can help you get towards 600
C'mon...it was 1972. Watch any Top of the Pops from the early '70s & you'll see that's how they all danced back then. Soul & Disco would get people actually dancing to the music but they hadn't even happened yet on any pop tv shows.
@breadzava9733 The fact you had to ask that, explains why only a few of the US’s hippest FM rock stations decided to play Sparks in their first decade or so! The band mostly relied on college stations for exposure. For example, until New Wave and Power Pop arrived in 1978-80, there weren’t any artists you could segue before or after a Sparks record. From 1971 - 78, DJs and program directors didn’t know where to fit them into the mix.
Weren't they lucky to find a decent producer in the U.K. who finally produced Sparks mania for a year or two. The Maels never bettered "Kimono" & "Propaganda".
No one except Ronnie looks like they're even playing the same song..the "bassist" isn't even playing bass. I know it's all mimed, but c'mon, at least pretend better
Sick tune. With Sparks, it's all killer no filler.
Sparks. The Picasso's of music.

have adored this tune since it came out
OMG that's just great! The clothes we wore! The hair! SPARKS!! 💥 Loved em.

Bubbling Under the Hot 100: #12
Should've been a hit in the USA!
Russell looks strangely adorable in this - the kind of polite boy you just want to pinch the cheeks out of
LITERALLY ohmygod hes so cute 😭😭😭😭

That's funny cuz I have samples from both songs in my library and I didn't realize this until you said it. Both great tunes, you can't deny the beat!!
Einfach krass, hab die beiden noch nie so gesehen😊😊😊

So much to take in here. Simply wonderful. The maels are genius’s.

Another great record produced by Todd Rundgren

Thanks for sharing
Wanderful 👏👏👏🙏😂
Nice music thank you for sharing
This reminds me of tv shows in my childhood. Thanks so much for sharing. Glad to connect and support you.
They used the album version of the track, and that is OK with me. Such a lovely band -- I wonder if they will last?
Ron reminds me of Chaplin....a hippie Chaplin.

Ron Mael's songs--so funny and slyly dirty.
Adam Ant vibes
Ten years before Adam Ant tho.
the "dancing"

Well I never…!
This is so funny lol what genre is this?
Glam rock/ proto- New Wave/ art rock. Song is from 1971.
Sparks is its own genre!
@@natalieschuetz5700 Real talk! ✌️

TWINS BROTHER CHARLIE CHAPLIN🤣👍
They're not twins. They are brothers.
@@rsmith7912 I know.Maers brother from California.
Then why say they are twins?...& their surname is Mael not Maers btw.
