80% of Greece is being classed as a mountain or a hill, the country has being described as a huge mountain range dropped in the Mediterranean sea.

There is a russian monks " story " who describes very well what Greece seems to be or look to foreign people......when God decide to split the world He called the nations and gave their land according to their needs and population numbers...
So He sat on his desk and one by one take the piece he decided it was suitable for them...
-You Russians take this part , you Chinese this etc... etc....
When all the nations were having a piece of land He felt happy and was ready to leave and then saw a last nation coming delay(siga siga)...they were the Greeks...
    -sorry we are delay Father
-where were you my children...I just split the whole planet fairly...
-we were at a wedding celebration for three days now , you mean there is nothing left for us Father ?
    - ok don't worry...I kept a small piece for my retirement...you can have it

A very good place for food and, if you are vegetarian, it's easier to get the right food in Greece than in many other places. This is because people of the Greek Orthodox faith often fast and when they do so they eat a vegetarian diet. So, if you just say you are fasting they will provide a vegetarian meal. I can assure you it will be a feast not a fast when they have cooked it!

Byzantine empire (or Eastern Roman Empire) was a Greek speaking orthodox state.... Thus not place in Greece tried to be independent from the empire which they felt as their own state.... Monemvasia was a Byzantine town created by people who fled from the mainland after some barbarian invasion an it was successful... Thus even when the state managed to repel the invasion, Monemvasia remained and became an important trading centre.
The Ottomans were a foreign conquest as also the 4th Crusade by the latins (western Catholics).

acropolis is a part of the city ,parthenon is the temple you were right on that. "The Greek root acro- means "high;" thus, an acropolis is basically a "high city". Ancient cities often grew up around a high point, in order that they could easily be defended" many cities have an acropolis.

Let me clarify it for you, my friend:
ACROPOLIS is the hill. It means "Edge of the city". Back when it got named, it was the tallest place of Athens (I think it still is).
PARTHENON is the actual temple on top of the hill.
    Many people use them interchangeably.

Greece is very mountainous. Even the islands have mountains.
I live on Rhodes and our highest mountain is 1200 m high.
The country is just full of beautiful nature and has the highest biodiversity in Europe.
Sharks are not an issue here. I've never heard of someone in Greece being attacked by a shark in my 20 years living here.
Architecture in Greece varies. Some places like Simy are very colourful, others like Santorini are all white and if you go to the mountains on the mainland you find houses built of stones.
But there are things about Greece videos can't show: the warmth of the people and the atmosphere, the culture, the way people move, talk and treat each other.

Answering your questions 1st: Acropolis (Parthenon and the rest of the buildings) is full Greek monument, nothing to do with Romans. It was built right after the Persian wars, 5th century BC. 2nd: Greek seas have no sharks 3rd: it's the colour of the sand that it's white, it's not that it's messed up 4th: Santorini is the volcanic island

I've been watching your videos for while, so it's kinda surreal that you made this video. I'm Greek, my father from a village on Mount Olympus and my mother from the mountain across it, Kissavos. The thing with greece is the combination of great weather, amazing food, and the life where people aren't as estranged as in other countries I've been to. We value going for a coffee with friends, at any age that is. I say this as a person who has been an immigrant to Australia from 4 to 11 yo, and lived as an immigrant again as an adult in England for 5 years till 2019. So comparing, there's good and bad everywhere, but the Greek blue (sky, beach) is irreplaceable. I've also visited Bulgaria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Wales and Scotland of course. They're all beautiful in their own right, just in a different way. Obviously I can't handle the gloomy, rainy weather much.
Btw, the Parthenon is the site, the Acropolis is the hill. So they're both there and both Greek.
    Greece interesting facts:
The vast majority in Greece speak English and many speak a 3rd language too (mostly German or French).
Uni is free, and healthcare is free in hospital but hard to get things sorted through that route. Private practices charge very little though, so we get things done. Typically to see a pathologist along with his prescription would cost from €20-50. We pay 15% of any drug prescribed unless it's a high cost drug like cancer drugs, biologic factors, or insulin where it is free.
The public sector has huge problems with red tape, but the worst is the whole tax evasion mentality.
    ✌️

Many don't know, even Greeks, that land of Greece was created where Mediterrenian and Antolia techtonic plates meet. Thats how Greece has so many huge mountains (one plate pushed other above) that is why Greece is the most shacky country after Japan. Also, this is written to ancient myths... when Cyclops and Giants fought goddess Earth and Zeus with others "gods" and Zeus jailed them inside Earth, Tartarus...meaning... made them lava and encapture them into volcanos (Greece has a lot too). After "gods" had won... Zeus took them in Olympus, the highest mountain around Balkans and Mediterrenia...the one that was created by their fight. Through all these millenials volcanos eruptions and huge quakes , many islands created, each of them with different geographical style.

yes there are sharks, but they're quite rare these days. Great whites, Smooth Hammerhead, Oceanic White Tip, Short Fin Mako, Blue, and Common Thresher are some of the larger species. Chances of encountering one are vanishingly small.

White sharks in Greece have appeared like 2 or 3 times in the 20th century attacking people in 2 cases. The last is over 50-60 years ago. Chances are that there are none right now cause there isn't enough prey for them and they won't be sustained. Mako's are seen more often but there isn't not even one registered attack for years and years now. Also blue ones with also no attacks. There are some non attacking species that fishermen caught in their nets or other fishing equipment that are eatable and great dishes are produced. Never even heard of a hammerhead or any other species but only very limited six gill sharks.

He could easily make this video 1 hour long and he'd still could have missed many landscapes or landmarks. Especially because most videos abour Greece are filmed during summer. The shot he took from top of shipwreck beach in Zakynthos is forbidden. Basically the government had to shut down the whole area now because of wreckless people who die to take a picture. Regarding the Meteora Monastery, they are accessible now. The bus can take you up there but then you have to climb many stairs to the top, not a ladder anymore. Meteora is beautiful, the area has a lot of energy, probably from the spiritual activities over the centuries.

Greece is extremely mountainous because we are the point where the Eurasian plate meets the African plate and Crete is right on top of the plate boundary. Also we are being pushed down southwest due to the Anatolian plate (fun fact it's the same like the San Andreas fault in the US). That's also why we have volcanoes and that we are the sixth most seismically active country in the world. Out of of the six volcanoes we have at least four are considered dormant but active including Santorini and it's submarine brother Columbo (located a bit north of the island). Also Navagio beach is currently closed due to landslides.

The Parthenon is that temple on the rocky hill, dedicated to godess Athena who was a vergin (parthenos in greek means a virgin). The Acropolis is the area with structures which form a district at the top of the hill, here including the Parthenon as well. To be more exact, Acropolis is the city part at the high spot of the city, in any city, which comes from the words acra/acron, meaning top or peak or edge, and the word polis, meaning city. In most cases an acropolis in an ancient town or city is the last defensive area, or the area for the last stand fight. And yes, the crescent shaped island you are trying to recall is the Santorini or Thera.

I come from Greece and I can assure you there are many incredible places not mentioned in the video. For instance, you can explore the Mani Peninsula and the villages of Areopoli, Oitylo, and Limeni. Contrary to what I said earlier, Mani is actually in the southern part of Europe. The places mentioned in the video are the most well-known ones. For a truly memorable experience in Greece, I recommend taking a road trip along the coasts of the Peloponnese. Start from Corinth, travel to Patra, and then continue all the way down to Kalamata and then to Mani, the southern tip of mainland Europe. After Mani, journey north to Monemvasia, Sparta, and back to Corinth. If you have more time, consider visiting other noteworthy places on the mainland such as Delphi, Zagorochoria, and the Edessa waterfalls, among others

The Mediterranean Sea is my fave, we have some great beaches here in the UK but the sea is very cold and also some beaches have limited time due to the massive difference in the tide, the med has less of a tidal flow. Of course the Rhode Island comes from the island of Rhodes. A lot of places in the US have their names traced back to European cities. Probably, someone who knew history or visited the island or was even Greek, suggested to name the island the same way.
Rhodes in Greek means "Rose" and in ancient times, there was standing one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, the enormous statue of Colossus of Rhodes, which was serving as a lighthouse for ships crossing Aegean to the Eastern Mediterranean sea.

Dutchman here. Most windmills were built to grind grain. But in the Netherlands they were used for many more purposes. Like sawing, oil production & draining large bodies of water. A great example of the versatility could be found just northwest of Amsterdam in the Zaan area. This is called the first industrialized area in the world. Because in the 17th century, this area was home to well over 1000 windmills. With all kinds of proposes. But mostly for the production of timber for the ship building industry. Turning the Dutch Republic in the most powerful naval country in Europe at that time.

McJibbin I must inform you that Greece’s ancient ruins were built only by Greeks and all thousands of years B.C starting till Acropolis and everything around it which some are there and some destroyed or just stolen marbles by Elgin who took them to England. Today they are at their museum. When the Roman Empire went to Greece they saw everything Greece had and was amazed! So they took Greek architects, mechanics, teachers, cooks, engineers, philosophers, painters, women to teach them stuff etc etc to build Rome and the whole Italy. If you go to south Italy everybody says these things are all Greek. The statues and all ruins Italy has was made by Greeks. So nothing in Greece is italian. Never was . Greece’s history starts (11.000BC - 3000BC ) with also the Minoans (3500BC) ……. and the rest is way long before the Roman Empire. (27 BC). So Greece as a country has the biggest history since they started since the Palaeolithic period. It is a gorgeous country……. sadly I must say governments who want to destroy it.😢
Oh and Zeus is mythology. He wasn’t real. Mythology ( Greek word )

You may be thinking of Santorini as being the island devastated by a volcano.

and the first Roman architecture, my friend, were commissioned by Greek architects. rome in 500 b.c. it was a village. Greek architecture and science ceased to exist after the imposition of Christianity. all the research centers, philosophy and knowledge, were destroyed. Rome and by extension Italy, did not stop developing
