What are your thoughts on the Christmas market situation this year? 🤔 The Christmas markets were canceled last year in Germany and some of them have been canceled again for this year. We were lucky enough to get this one in for this 2021 holiday season! We really feel for a lot of the vendors and businesses that build up for this season. We're going to support them by eating as many sausages as we can! It's been such a rollercoaster of a year and we are hoping for a better one next year! We hope you all are staying safe!

Also mal etwas komplett neues. Außerdem ist der Cranger Weihnachtszauber der größte Weihnachtsmarkt in Europa. Und er wurde auch nicht wegen Corona geschlossen. Geöffnet hat er noch bis zum 30. Dezember. Und er ist definitiv einen Besuch wert. 🙂

I like the size of the Christmas market you went to. We went to the German Christmas market in Atlanta Ga today it was smaller about 40-50 vendors but had most of key items compared to the one you went to.

My train ticket (from Copenhagen) was also to Munich, and I told myself, if Munich closed, I would just go to Nuremburg. Ha! Then, I did a lot of research and at the time, Hannover had very few cases of Covid, so I went, and enjoyed the Hannover Christmas Market. I found it very strange that I couldn't even buy Schmaltzkuchen without showing my Covid passport. (Get the bracelet... it saves lots of time!) The mask is more than a bit irritating, though it does keep your face a bit warm, and people can indeed be packed quite snuggly into the area etc. I did look and look for the forrest, so you explaining that I didn't miss it soothes my soul. It was well worth the visit, and oh, how we hope we will have many Merry Christmas markets next year. Thanks for posting. Wishing all of Germany health and safety and a wonderful Christmas!

We are glad you were able to go to at least one! Yeah we had to change our plans as well since we originally wanted to be in the south for this holiday season. Hopefully next year things are open and back to at least a "new normal."

We’re flying from Denver to Frankfurt and planning to go to markets in Frankfurt (obviously), Cologne, Mainz and Wiesbaden. Let me know if you have any other recs! We were in Munich and Füssen for Christmas in 2019 so I’m hoping we’re not disappointed this year with all the COVID restrictions. Thanks for another great video and Happy Christmas! 🍷🇩🇪🎄🥳

@@DeanaandPhil hmm, it's been a while ( :' ( ) but we get things like classic ring doughnuts, pulled pork sandwiches, crepes are also really popular. And then just random stands. I went to one that had paella, halloumi chips and Greek gyros haha. There are also lots of stands selling obscure things like hot sauce and soaps. Mulled wine and hot cider are the drinks of choice here - but that honey wine you had sounds amazing!

If you go to another Christmas, please show more of the crafts vendors sell. It was great seeing the Medieval section, but I was thinking more for decorations for Christmas Trees . Also I remember the nutcrackers, smokers, and "prune people" They take prunes and shape them into people and make statues. Customs won't let them into the USA.

Fortunately I live in Bremen. We have a (beautiful!) christmas market too. One near the old city hall and another one directly at the river Weser - a "Freibeuter" christmas market with medieval pirates. :D You should check it out. Maybe next time? :)
And I'm happy they are open in Bremen. It's outside and so it's a bit safer than celebrating indoors. And last year was really a bit depressing. So I went to the christmas market too although I'm very careful about Covid. I had to wear a bracelet too and I was fine with it.
I ate Langosch (some kind of a hungarian snack - kind of a flat bread fryed in lots of oil) with garlic sauce, tomato and rucola and Schmalzkuchen. :) I also love Flammlachs but it is a bit expensive and I must be careful about my money this year.

So sad about the German Christmas Markets closing. In USA they are open and doing well. The big one is Chicago which is a copy of the one in Nuremberg. In Wisconsin we have 5 or 6 in the whole state that serves German food and gluhwein. We can even make our own gluhwein. The liquor stores sell the spices and mix with a bottle of dry red wine. Also a company in the US makes gluhwein. AND people can buy gingerbread from Nuremberg ( Lebkuchen) on Amazon.

@@DeanaandPhil If you have been to the Christmas Market in Nuremberg, it's just like it in Chicago. They have the red and white roofs on the huts. They serve real Nuremberger Brats and lebkuchen. The lady that is crowned "Christkind" she is like the spokesperson of the Nuremberg christmas market and comes to Chicago and helps open it around Thanksgiving Day in USA. I've been markets and they are HUGE We have smaller Christmas Markets close to me and they also serve German treats. Some Germans travel here and sell their goods and products.

    We, here in Bielefeld, also
    have a Christmas Market
There appears to be fewer stands
and they are more spaced out.
We have a mask mandate in the streets
    and a band system too
(though I haven't been in the evening
    when that operates)
I go to a bakery the other side of the main area
so usually see them setting up
and the giant Glühwein stall is in the centre as usual.
By the way Glögi is Finnish for Glühwein
and comes from the Swedish glögg
Though Glögi I have only ever seen made with red wine

Leute, the "I wish you a merry christmas"-loop is killing me again. Are there not more free use christmas instrumentals out there? Ansonsten, really good entertaining video.

I prefer Glühwein over Meth. *laughs
When I was in Nuremberg yesterday, I walked past the christmas market place - it was empty and very gray. They've tried to recreate the christmas feel with a few booths here and there, but the city doesn't feel the same this time of year. I understand why it's necessary, but I really wanted to go to the Christmas market again. D:

Ohhh interesting! A lot of the smaller cities close to us canceled theirs. Are there any special dishes to try at a Berlin Christmas market? 🤔

I think everything should open back up and go back to normal. People should be able to decide for themselves if they want to go do things like normal or stay home.

I had my palm read once and it was so accurate , I was only 14 years old. The woman said to all of us going to see her to please bring a person item with us each. She told me that I would have 3 children but only be pregnant twice ( I had twin boys and a daughter) and that I would be married twice. All things have come true and I am now 70 years of age.

There's a song lyric, "I know the Autobahn will be finally completed", in "My Favorite Black Cat" by Lebanon Hanover. Is this a real infrastructure issue in Germany? Isn't the Autobahn completed? If not, what would complete be? The US interstates were completed in the 1980s with the west end of I-90. The lyric could be purely symbolic, or one local road, but I'm wondering if it's literal.

I don't see anything unsafe about an open air market where everyone is masked and only the vaccinated or recently recovered can buy food and drink. I think they have a good system going on there.
