New album 'Mood Valiant', out 25 June on Brainfeeder: hiatuskaiyote.lnk.to/moodYo Filmed for Wunce Magazine www.wuncemag.com (C) 2013 Pineapple Spaceship PTY LTD
Stevie Wonder is dancing all up & through these chord changes & transitions. Hiatus Kaiyote is no joke. I love it. HK are musician’s musicians... artist’s artists. Not everyone can cover their work, but if you put any track in front of them, they can handle it & put their own spin on it. They’re like a carnival. There’s so many rides to get on. So many games to play & all of them will leave you spinning, but fully satisfied.
Agreed x100. She is wise enough to know that being part of a band is a far better thing than to _just be a singer._ It takes worlds more talent to really be part of a band, no matter what instrument you play, no matter what genre.
Well, it's missing one word which would have made it grammatically more coherent, but it's nonetheless no less a waste than your aimless reply, but then again your surname (intentional or otherwise) is Chode, so I'll set my expectation accordingly.
I discovered them by accident!!! I went to see Erykah Badu, DeAngelo and Busta Rhymes and had the pleasure of catching some weird looking group from Australia. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. By the end of their set, I was BEGGING for more!!!! #RESPECT
She almost actually sounds BETTER here, however in the studio version she holds the "I'm not gunna answer it" in one of the most beautiful ways i've ever heard anything. I specifically noticed it missing in this version because it's like the equivalent of someone flexing really hard. She does flex though in ways in this version that don't exist on the studio version. Anyhow, nai is top 5 vocalist's, ever.
Nah I’ve listened to that on repeat for weeks, it sounds a bit messy here, particularly towards the end. It’s a lot more improvised but some of the ornamentation isn’t as satisfying
I want them to be super successful because they're so good and I want the world to see what real music sounds like but then I also oddly want to selfishly keep them a secret
+nachala waters Well wouldn't you call what they're doing here success? They're already selling out venues and are well within the "limelight". I agree with what you say, I can only hope for bigger and better from them however, you are doing them a dis-service by you not telling your friends about them.
+nerhe07 they are not in the limelight. people know about them but they arent even on tv in america. i think we were just saying that when people get huge commercial success, the quality of the music decreases almost always. we just dont want to see that happen. im sure we all share them with anyone we know that shares a like mind in music. truth is your everyday person wouldnt feel this and thats precisely why they arent mainstream.
Isaiah 55:8-9 New International Version (NIV) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I've been following them since like 2015, but I always completely melt at 4:40 in the breakdown, and the camera focus onto her smile in the sunlight with just the whole vibe, and it really makes me feel like everything is right in the world for a few seconds.
While watching this video together, I jokingly *cough* told my girlfriend I'm crushing hard on that girl.. She replied "I know.. me too." You can just tell by the way she moves that she's sweet.
You both make me wish I had kids, lols. This is easily one of the best bands I've heard in my life. And I've heard an insane amount of great music in my years. A friend I met playing Vindictus (an mmo action rpg) told me about them.
this talent is timeless....I'm a huge fan of Stevie Wonder, and I feel his spirit has been shared with Nia Palm.... She is AMAZING!! Thank you funk god, you've answered my prayers.... #KeepRealMusicAlive
@@AnthonyWilliams-ls4ys Have you ever heard Erykah Badu sing live ? She can't keep a decent tune ! This female keyboard player has got more soul then Erykah and her whole family together
@@ruuisvanbakel2304 I agree that she has talent, but I disagree that she has more soul than Erykah. If you look back at the beginning of Erykah's career, the "can't carry a decent tune live" is something she's always done. She does it purposefully. She experiments with her music even after its been recorded, put for out enjoyment. You can hear it on some her albums as well. She said in an interview that alot of her songs start out playfully.
@@_l_9038 Hi Latoya , I respect you liking her and your personal taste , But I am a musician , and I know that nowadays , and already since many years , you can resolve false notes being sung , with audio engineering , I can even do that with my home studio equipment .So not surprising that she doesn't have that problem on her albums .I can even still appreciate people singing false when there is enough passion given with the singing . It can even be because the sound wasn't good on stage , and that she didn't hear the other musicians well . All possible , but nevertheless I heared two live registrations from her , both singing in my opinion out of tune , and not because she was pushing it . Well ,there are so many singers that are so much better than she is to my opinion . But don't let me stop you enjoying her , enjoy any music that you can ! Fortunately there is still enough Wonderfull music being made . greeting from Ruuis
+Ian White Yep. Completely agree. So many people who haven't heard acid jazz/jazz/ soul/neo soul/funk thinks that it's something completely new..and it is..but it isn't at the same time.
Aniyah Jung Ian White I think you may have misunderstood my comment. I'm not saying "oh, I've never heard anything like this! It must be the future of music". Umm, No. I'm old. I enjoy hearing, and playing jazz, soul, Motown, etc. since the early '70s. I'm saying that I hope more young musicians return to these styles of organic, living and breathing music, and make it their own, just as Hiatus Kaiyote have done.

This is by far one of the "Best" new era groups I've heard, wait let me clarify that, this is one of the best group of "Musicians" I've heard. I'm hoping that people will get back to this, so I may finish my music career !
I come back to this song every time I'm going through something that deeply effects my depression and it's really like a quick fix to my mood for the day. I love Nai, her band is equally as amazing. This band has made some of the best music in 30+ years.
It's easily one of the best I've ever heard, and I've heard a ton of greats from dozens of different genres. So far this and Stimpy Lockjaw are my favorites of all the new bands I've heard.
My absolute favorite song by them! Found this group last August 2016 when they opened for Erykah Badu ( my favorite singer) and I was like WOOOOOOOOW this chick can SANG and the band is awesome. I'm a fan now and want to see them in concert again!

This song is incredible. I love the fluid movement between the different genres and how captivated you remain during the entire song. Well fuck now I have to buy the album.
I love how they keep the same backup vocalists. 9 years later and they’re still rocking with each other!!
yeah!! I just saw them in concert and it's the same backup singers!
the groove at 4:40 is fucking unbelievable
My favorite part too. ^-^
Amazing!
That keyboardist solo was killer!🙌🏾 🙌🏾

Haikal Fauzi haha ofcourse, Dynamite is my favorite album
Haikal Fauzi love jamiroquai but he ain't got shit on Nai Palm and Haitus

@@davidhmmm4234 Just checking in four years later to announce that I, too, cried like a bitch at this totally abrupt yet utterly amazing transition.
wow.... she plays the piano too!? i never knew.. this whole time ive been watching her slapping dat guitar like a queen
I don't think she plays bass.. If she does I want the link of the video. I've only seen her playing guitar, singing, and playing piano.
I don't think they meant _slapping,_ as in the bass technique. :)
Prolly more like bitch slapping some 11 chords, lols.
Why can’t this be mainstream music ☹️
Playing this... over, and over, and over...
holy... what a performance, i would pay 100 just to listen to them perform 5 songs in this settings. the backup team is the best ive ever seen.
