It’s complicated. The majority, republicans are now allowed to elect a speaker and from there they will assign chairs to each of the committees. There is a lawsuit against Walz for calling a special election for the position ( because the democrat lied ) which was not timely. The democrats don’t want to show up until the special election results are certified which could be sometime in February. There are more dynamics going within the senate as well with a current member facing a burglary trial for allegedly breaking into her stepmothers house clothed in all black, entering the stepmothers bedroom in the wee hours of the morning and found in the basement by law enforcement. Also, there is the matter of the missing 20 ballots that were “tossed out” in Scott county where the election results are now uncertifiable for the democrat who is claimed to have won by 14 votes. At the end of the day the republicans have achieved a majority in the house as it opens on the 14th. The democrats don’t want to concede power and a playing dirty tricks not to work for the people that elected them.
