After reading the court of the blind king the deepkin became one of my all time fav factions of AoS .Eldritch sea elves are both terrifying and intriguing. I swear with all the crap thanquol gets into the fact he's still alive means he is truely the great horned rats favorite grey seer.
I mean thanqol maybe stupid but he is also ungodly powerful he is one of the of the few non gods, godlike beings or demons that survived reality blowing up.
You forgot one of the best parts of the Idoneth Deepkin's lore, that being the various enclaves (sub factions basically) live in not just generic fantasy oceans but also many of them inhabit the seas of the various realms with such seas reflecting the nature of their respective realms. Such as the seas of the realm of death being oily and blackened or the seas of the realm of Ghur being full of the most ferocious beasts or even boiling oceans of the realm of fire! In fact the ocean that was accidentally drained by the skaven was one of the realm of death's, which is how Nagash found out about the Idoneth Deepkin's existence in the first place, as ironically it was one of the more Isolationist (i.e. don't talk to their fellow enclaves very much) Idoneth Deepkin enclave that was exposed from the drainage. And the Idoneth Deepkin from each respective realm's oceans reflect those realms in some ways which is even more customization options!
One of my favourite things about the Idoneth is that their personalities can be influenced by what soul they are given. For example: Dhom-Hain soul raids often prey on Orcs. While pretty bad and lacking in quality, the abundance of these souls usually make up for this. That, combined with the fact that most people wouldn’t mind them getting rid of a few Orcs, you’re probably wondering "Why don’t the Idoneth just raid Orcs?" Well, remember what I said about souls affecting personality? Apparently, over multiple applications, the fury and savagery of the greenskins seems to have partly filtered through to the enclaves Namarti caste. Many of them now seem to revel in the fighting and violence of battle just like an Orc, which only adds to the bad reputation the Dhom-Hain have among the other enclaves. Considering that these are elves, 99% of them having TTS Vulkan's fits is probably just barely better than death for them.
"... by the decree of "he really wants them"..." I lost it at that. PancreasNoWork's delivery is always the best. Idoneth Deepkin for Warhammer 3 when?
@@discountplaguedoctor88 Age of Sigmar and Total War are not as synergetic as it is with Fantasy, as the battles in AoS are much more heroic and on smaller scales than Fantasy
This is probably my favourite new race from AoS, others are just old but better, but this guys look cool and have a cool Lore. 10/10 would fish with them again
It honestly makes me wish they'd have fleshed out *"the world that was" (Warhammer Fantasy)* more in regards to different sub factions or cults dedicated to the various gods of *the old elven and human pantheons...* or rather had them play more prominent roles instead of the spotlight being hogged by freakin Sigmar! Seriously wanted to see some awsome priests of Mannan! (the human god of water and seas) The nautical nonsense and water puns they could've made, a sorely missed opportunity!
My favorite thing about the Idoneth (beyond the fuck you have have a shark army set) is that, lorewise, the Idoneth aren't all the same when it comes to dealing with the surface. Some like the Ionrach dislike having to reave souls and are mostly open to working with outsiders against Chaos. Then you have the Fuethan who are murder-crazy, or the Mor'phann who just want to be left alone as they vibe to underwater gothic trance music. There's a wide variety of motive and personality to them than just "edgy must murder to survive", even though it still fits.
It would be interesting to see GW do other sea creatures, Ex. Large Jellyfish that amp magic, or a monstrous Jellyfish that hinder charges with its many tentacles. They could also do smaller swarms of feral creatures similar to warhounds/snake swarms, or they can revitalize the Hydra/Kharibdyss or anything from the Vampire Coast.
There are a lot of Idoneth in Hysh still, since it is the home realm and all, but they try to avoid raiding Lumineth because they are fucking terrified of Teclis. I think Volturnos is the last living "first generation" Idoneth that was around before they moved to the sea floor. Volturnos is untold millennia old (there is a chance that my memory sucks on this one). They yoinked Teclis's soul lantern, which he used to extract the souls from Slaanesh, because they wanted to use it to try and cure themselves but it didn't go so well or they have not figured it out yet. I don't know if Telcis even cares about it anymore. Truth be told, I don't know if they have gotten all the elves souls out of Slaanesh or if they threw their hands up at some point and said "Good enough. I'm bored. Lets go home". In truth, I don't even know what the hell the Lumineth and Teclis even feel about the Idoneth in current AoS.
The Idoneth first enclave call Ionrach based in Hysh and is the main enclave in which all other enclave broke out from once each settlment through out the realms. Volturnos is around 5-6 Millennia old or at least half a millennium old (they go back and forth between how long the age of myth was but age of chaos 1/2 Millenium) and last of the Cythai the first souls remove from teclis batch. the soul lantern was last used by morathi to journey into Slaanesh to find & eat the souls of the Pheonix lords which is still in Slaanesh as Morathi lost after getting bisected in half by Aenarion. Teclis & Grungi see them as the poor abused children that Teclis fuck over while the Lumineth and Idoneth have a weird brotherhood-ish because chaos but Lumineth underneath see them selfish cowards while the Idoneth see them as the privilege golden boy to the Mage-god. it like an older brother with a rougher childhood & younger brother who more successful
One thing I really like about Age of Sigmar is that the model design team went all out for the unique factions in the setting, and I think the idoneth deepkin is a wonderful example of this. They don't need to worry about decades of lore explaining exactly why they have to limit certain aspects, or else suffer the wrath of neckbeards.

It would be great with the whole "Nagash going after them" thing if this lead to the rebirth of vampire pirates who hunt the idoneth, an army introduction partnerd with a more idoneth models as they try harder to fight back against the undead fleet
The Idoneth could even work in Endhammer, as some Elves who were transformed during the sinking of Ulthuan into blind, soulless husks fighting for survival.
I honestly thought these guys were the vampire Coast when they first came out and to this day I'm still convinced they are a vampire faction till I see this video. 1) I'm surprised they are actually elf the high elfs and funny how they are an order version of the dark eldar. 2) Miss opportunity to make a vampire coast faction.
The newer Age of Sigmar factions have some of the best models GW has EVER made. I only hesitate on buying them because I;m not sure I can find other people who play it and because I'm worried that GW could can some of these factrions if they don't sell well as the game gets new editions. They ignore the Xeno factions in the 40k so what are the odds of them providing long term support to non-human factions in a game I'd wager is much smaller.
That's my fear also, right now it seems that atleast with AOS while certainly the Stormcast and Sigmar gets most of the love it isn't nearly as unbelievable biased as with 40k's Imperium and SPACE marines or even Warhammer Fantasy's insistance with ignoring the existence of almost anything that exists outside of the "Old World" (i.e. Fantasy NOT-Europe), with more particularly seemingly hating to acknowledge the existence of *the "Southern Realms"* and focused infuriatingly on basically just Fantasy *"NOT-Northern-Europe"* 98% of the time. Oh, and them basically shunning the entirety of the eastern hemisphere like they were some *"redheaded stepchildren"* for decades! But anyway, little rant aside, *There is a real sense at a moment for a more evenly distributed amount of lore and story love in the AOS setting for all faction from GW.* (Stormcast not withstanding..) That said I honestly hate that they named it Age of SIGMAR, like them basically saying f*ck everyone else, this is Sigmar's story or age. It just gives me that feeling that they'll ultimately treat every other character or faction in the world as secondary sidekicks to that dude's show...at best.
So what are your thoughts on Nagash, since he came up more than a few times for this one. I (big surprise seeing as I have an Ahriman pfp), personally have an unhealthy obsession with evil wizards
Fuckin love him. A lot of Warhammer Fantasy characters actually act out of a genuine love for their people. Karl Franz (praise be his name) says in a Total War voice line he’s done many morally questionable things for his country but it’s out of love for his nation and people he does it. Same for characters like Teclis, Volkmar, and arguably even some “evil” characters like Vlad con Carstein.
Thanquol is the Horned Rat's funniest Jester after all.
Got the shark one for my dad. Neither of us play AoS, but he liked the shark model
You can change that now!
A year later and the best part of this video is still the fish puns
To harvest souls most efficiently and humanely I imagine they give their victims that special dolphin jelly and wait for heart attacks to kick in
One of my favourite things about the Idoneth is that their personalities can be influenced by what soul they are given. For example: Dhom-Hain soul raids often prey on Orcs. While pretty bad and lacking in quality, the abundance of these souls usually make up for this. That, combined with the fact that most people wouldn’t mind them getting rid of a few Orcs, you’re probably wondering "Why don’t the Idoneth just raid Orcs?"
Well, remember what I said about souls affecting personality?
Apparently, over multiple applications, the fury and savagery of the greenskins seems to have partly filtered through to the enclaves Namarti caste. Many of them now seem to revel in the fighting and violence of battle just like an Orc, which only adds to the bad reputation the Dhom-Hain have among the other enclaves.
Considering that these are elves, 99% of them having TTS Vulkan's fits is probably just barely better than death for them.
Ah yes, brooding, edgy, soul sucking, memory erasing, eel riding vampire pirate dank elves of order.

Idoneth Deepkin for Warhammer 3 when?
That'll only happen if GW gives CA and SONY the green light for a Total War: Age of Sigmar game.
Tell me more about Big Turtle.
What are his hobbies? Does he have a wife? What are his opinions on Sigmar and the betrayal of the pact with Nagash?
I am currently in hospital after being diagnosed with diabetes and your videos are comforting me rn
Seaside Town: Minds it’s own business.
Idoneth Deepkin: _”DARLING IT’S BETTA, DOWN WHERE IT’S WETTA!”_
It would be interesting to see GW do other sea creatures,
Ex.
Honestly this guys are OP, if the other player has talassophobia they'll just run away screaming the moment you pull them out.
Idoneth are so cool looking with their atlantis aesthetic, wish for the love of god they get a kraken sometime soon though. Me want big sea monster
In the newest Gotrek book a full on Mathlann avatar was created btw. Was pretty dope and I hope it some day gets onto the tabletop.
I've watched a few vids but the fish jokes got u the subscription.
HOLY HECK ONE OF THE BEST AOS's Ideas! Finally getting covered!!! Yes!
I've never heard about these guys before watching this and now I want them
Not an AoS guy?
The Average Drukhari Fan 🤓 vs The Average Idoneth Enjoyer 🗿
Jokes aside, the Idoneth are honestly just better-written Drukhari.
Oh great. So just shaft the fanbase
Bonereapers, Nighthaunt, Idoneth
Honestly AOS is on a roll with models
@@pogsothoth the daughter of khaine models is what finally sold me on AoS back in early 2nd edition

Well done as always. I don't know anything about warhammer, and I have no idea what's going on, but I sure am enjoying the content!
Basically the setting is about winning the warhammer and which ever faction wins it becomes the emperor
And then you need to collect the other 39,999 warhammers
to become the true james workshop
Damn, you got me acin up for these sea elves. Love your channel to death. Has really inspired me recently to try my hand at editing and practicing video shit.
God bless.
If I had my own Sea Elf unit it would definitely be a Narwal. Could be a heavy damage dealer.
When I was thinking about collecting minis before coming to my senses, I found these guys looking really interesting and didn't know shit about them. Really cool idea man, thanks for this video!
I really dont know why, but your warhammer videos are my favorites.
they dont get boring and i actually learn something new.
just wanted to let you know, thanks for the great content.
I really like his *"lore pros vs lore cons",* sections they're my favorite parts of his videos! (also usally make up the bulk of his videos too)
malarkey, a good name for a random blood angels curse given to fish people with big ears. I actually love these models, though I haven't gotten too many the turtle is especially spicy
TLDR: the deepkin are mind wiping soul stealing shark and eel riding pirates with cave drip. Tragically only my own homebrew lore has them talking in pirate accents.
Imagine a older namarti warrior teaching a bunch of young namarti kids, through *singing some sea shanties.*
*Older namarti:* Are you ready kids!?

I absolutely love your videos, and seeing the small edits becoming more common is the perfect cherry on top. Your vids on these AoS factions got me to look into AoS more seriously and think of picking up some models to paint
If you take a shot every time you hear "turtle", by the end of the video, you'd understand how that ocean bubble curse feels...and if that isn't immersion, I don't know what is
ah yes, another classic case of "idk if i actually would want to play as this faction but i really want that one model just to have." big turtle is my mood kindred
Gotta says. I loved the bombardment of sea puns. Never change man

Why not?
@@krampusthestoryteller1416 It isn’t Fantasy
@@abyssbun444 In some ways it's better. Give it a try!
yes, the big turtle factions, featuring eels and damaged elven souls i guess
It would be great with the whole "Nagash going after them" thing if this lead to the rebirth of vampire pirates who hunt the idoneth, an army introduction partnerd with a more idoneth models as they try harder to fight back against the undead fleet
The Idoneth could even work in Endhammer, as some Elves who were transformed during the sinking of Ulthuan into blind, soulless husks fighting for survival.
you have a great sense of humor and I always am hyped to see a new video, keep up the great work my dude!
The usual Sunless Sea soundtrack usage seems is quite fitting here.
"Reject modernity, return to Big Turtle!" - some drunk Idoneth probably
I wish the Idoneth would be added to Old World as the Sea Elves or something like that
I am awaiting the day you talk about the greatest faction in 40k: the AdMech. Skitarii my beloved.
I wonder if there will be any toaster puns in That video?
Me too, AdMech and their army is just surprisingly cool. especially if you put cawl in the mix.
NOOOO!!!!
THEY FRIED MY BANANAS
Wet elf
Do you know how little that narrows it down?
I want to see a version of them but all in beach wear and with squirt guns.
Could probably kit bash that...somehow. Would be hilariously AWESOME to see!
I have a very strong desire to buy big turtle just to paint and display it in some sort of shrine of turtleyness
It's drip or drown, and the Idoneth can breathe underwater
Every time you said "Big Turtle" I thought briefly of a cabal of corporations with a strong pro-turtle agenda
But it's just GW, apparently
But anyway, little rant aside, *There is a real sense at a moment for a more evenly distributed amount of lore and story love in the AOS setting for all faction from GW.* (Stormcast not withstanding..)
That said I honestly hate that they named it Age of SIGMAR, like them basically saying f*ck everyone else, this is Sigmar's story or age. It just gives me that feeling that they'll ultimately treat every other character or faction in the world as secondary sidekicks to that dude's show...at best.
Every 3 months two new books and models drop for two factions a piece. Constant updates in white dwarf. If you build it they will come.
love that vampire coast theme is playing in the background
lore con: being featured in a gotrek novel
This video reminds me of why I picked up Idoneth as my first ever army. Thanks!
Marine biology Warhammer and payday? Now this is quality content
If Frankenstein's Monster was a pointy eared Cthulhu, it would be the Idoneth Deepkin.
They do have a similar tragic theme of trying to figure themselves out and having asholes for creators.
Thank you so much, perfect timing, I'm getting my buds into AoS and the Deepkin are a huge winner there.
With that being said, in that context I love it when someone is just an unrelenting piece of shit like Nagash.

Namor and the Atlantains feel similar to these water elfs. I wouldn't be surprised if you see more people come back to this video over the next few weeks.
Idoneths lore was written by a horror writer.
I was cracking up the entire time you were punning

The Idoneth are seafaring, deep-sea beast riding pirate elves with water magic. I wish they could grow beards and wear big capes to really give off the pirate look.
