Farming gold via profession is actually effective but since the farming tools can only crafted by forgers and it needs other professions for other recipes it is really not considered as a daily income unless you are willing to do buy, craft, then sell. But another option is carefully planning your farming schedule and switching your profession effectively since the cooldown increases everytime you switch but if you want to fully maximize your profit this is the only way. I actually did it for reputation items and i now have level 11 on all regions by day 12 without buying anything from the market, i could have sold all of those for profit but flying is my main objective.

It depends on how much tool you have and the price range.
A lot. On release I farmed like 3k gold a day.

you can only mine 8 times with 1 tool. You can also upgrade your forge proficiency while farming to 1000 using that tool.
