In my oppinion, Pissaro is the best impressionist. His dreamy landscape paintings really got soul. Maybe it's not perfect but this is exactly the allure in his art

Un de mes peintre préféré. Une sorte de naiveté dans la forme mais une grande intensité dans les couleurs.

Now this is a superb presentation- lots of paintings, no frills, music that doesn't detract or overwhelm, full images, good colour etc- why can't more on youtube get these things right? But what's Monet doing there at 1:27

Great choice of music to accompany the pictures.Pity the ending was too abrupt as the last few notes of the melody should have been allowed to ring out. Thanks, and great to see such a great artists work.

Let us be clear: Pissaro was of mixed descent. His father was of Portuguese-Jewish descent, while his mother was "Creole", i.e. half black. Little Camille was born in the Danish West Indies, but had to frequent an all-black school, since the Jewish community did not recognize him as being Jewish, which he was not - in the Jewish tradition - his mother being a Gentile. He had strong connections with the Danish Melbye-brothers, both painters of some notoriety. Probably a Danish subject!

Great artists like Pissarro do not need individual critics or admirers to add such epithets to their names. Laicity should govern the art world especially when it gets to geniuses like him. I am sure he would have disagreed to have been segragated or categorised in such a way. Why don't we just stick to his greatness, no revendication, no religion or cast categories are necessary to be added, let us remain humble at the sight of such excellence in the same way he probably was.

Well he is Jewish, only joking 1: 27 soleil levant, A start of a movement Claude Monet. Maybe Pissaro was seen as the Elder (father figure).

St. Thomas was until the US purchase of 1917 a Danish Colony. Pissarro's father was of Portuguese-Jewish descent - which - I am just guessing here - meant that his ancestors were forced to leave Portugal around 1500. His mother was half black. So much for him being a Portuguese artist! Fortunately, Portugal has plenty of culture and history to be proud of. But Pissarro was NO PORTUGUESE. By living and working so long in France, he was - the best way to describe it - French of mixed descent.

Was it necessary to mention that he was Jewish? Pissaro was first of all French wasn't he?
