Differential equations connect the slope of a graph to its height. Slope = height, slope = -height, slope = 2t times height: all linear. Slope = (height)^2 is nonlinear.

    Dear Professor Gilbert Strang,
I thank you for your marvelous introduction to Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations. It truly filled me with joy seeing it explained again. Please keep on teaching man. I really do enjoy these videos. I don't attend MIT. However, seeing your videos allows me to truly grasp the concepts being anywhere around the world. I'm sure you've touched the minds of many individuals and helped them all. I thank you. They thank you. We all do. Have a blessed day/night. Godspeed and may the Math Gods protect you.

He is really one of the best Math teachers/professors I have ever seen! At least I am able to listen to his lessons without falling into sleep. I used to have some kinds of phobia against Calculus, but now, I am able to solve many Calculus problems (and only through online learning).. Thanks!

This is awesome, awesome, awesome! I have been looking forward to Mr Strang doing ODE's as much, if not more so, as waiting for major blockbuster movie! Thanks to all of his work with the linear algebra and engr. comp. sci. (applied linear algebra covering some of the best algorithms!) it is so much easier to understand. I purchased his book (linear algebra) last year and I personally think it should be the gold standard for all Universities. Thank you, and a thousand times more, thank you!

I’ve done diff eq and linear algebra as two separate courses. As an Engineer I wish I would have seen more instances where my instructors tied the material we were learning to the real world,l. That’s not to say I don’t have a tremendous amount of respect for my professors but I really like the introduction to this video with the way he says there will be topics of application for what the course covers.
