1. OML - order of merit list. Basically what things you do that the army cares about and affects your rank and what things don’t matter as much 2. PT - be in shape beforehand 3. Have good time management with school and ROTC 4. Not all schools have an equal ROTC program 5. Learn every task you can so that when they ask what job you want you know what you want and you are prepared. Being higher on the OML means more likely you get the job you want
It would have been more clear and helpful if you began by sharing your background. You were enlisted? How many years? What year in college did you begin ROTC? What program did you join? Results?
If it is still the same as when I was in ROTC, the needs of the service come first in assigning branches and active duty. It was not known but when we made our choices for branches, we we told that Vietnam was winding down and some guys would get two years active duty and some would get three months. As it worked out guys who wanted two years got three months and vice versa. Also as far as branch selection goes, We had X number of guys getting a commission. DA sent down X branch choices. OML dictated mostly who got what. If you were on the bottom of the OML, you probably did not get the branch you wanted and you probably got Infantry.
me being a veteran and being a nonscholarship rotc student I WISH I KNEW THAT I COULD USE MY GI BILL AND COMPETE FOR A SCHOLARSHIP SO I WOULD POCKET THE HOUSING STIPENED OFFERED FROM THE COLLEGE
can I join ROTC at 31 with 4 years prior active duty enlisted service? was thinking about using GI Bill to go to school and wanted to know if I could get in the program. I have heard different answers from people
You’d probably need an age waiver but u can get in. I knew a guy that’s 33 with no prior service that got in with a waiver, so it’s possible. Talk to the ROO and they’ll should be able to help u out.
Thank you for the video -- it was very helpful. I'm just starting the process of prep for Georgetown ROTC (research, fitness, etc.), and I was wondering if you had any resources for figuring out what job you want to pursue (like you mentioned in point #5)?
Damn, people do not know what ROTC is. Okay so for starters, yes, you do have to cut your hair to Army standards. 2. You do do PT (physical training) BUT you should be hitting the gym as much as you can outside of PT. 3. And i cannot stress how different ROTC is and JROTC. ROTC are adults ready to go into the military as officers. JROTC are Boy Scouts 🤣. The JROTC kids who end up going into the military are just “another requisitioned youth” 😂.
I sent my son to a different high school for one period, for the 4 years, to a school that does have a program, we drove him everyday so he could attend JROTC

not the same as we are in peace time and now infantry is the most sought out branch but cadets and not enough slots are offered

@@x_aculitebs7905 JROTC is literally just drills and stuff, don't let dudes make it seem really hard. It's nothing like ROTC or the actual military
@@x_aculitebs7905You shouldn’t join the Military then.
Do they still care about how many sit ups you can do, since it’s getting phased out of the routine?
Yes there will still be minimums and maximums.
Thanks for this! im joining rotc this august! Go Army!

I assume not since they are not in the (army) they are not subject to military uniform code of justice.
Some programs adhere to regulations, others don’t. Do your research
