Frankly, the diplomacy in reaching across the aisle that Democrats have been attempting is the American way. They are not extremists. Apparently you have to be an a****** extremist, undiplomatic, uncompromising, unwilling to listen to anyone else who shares the outcomes of your policies. The Democrats literally did everything they could possibly do. Kamala and Tim were up against the most disgusting team of bastards to lead us since Andrew Jackson. Feeding children breakfast, having a clear economic vision for the future to support the Middle class, mending relationships with allies, having a plan for climate change and immigration, America is rejecting that. But only by a margin of 1 to 2%. Which means that half of us get to die because the other half of us refused to listen.

I blame the Dems' support for the Gaza massacres. If the White House had forced Netanyahu to end it after a few months, I suspect they'd have won this election comfortably. But their unwillingness to do so meant that Trump could paint himself as the antiwar candidate. Several canvassers I've heard from have said that many people were convinced Trump would "stop the wars", and "Trump is the peace candidate" was an idea that had a lot of (unwarranted) currency.

Frankly, my heart sank when I saw the election results. I reside in the Philippines, and it was still difficult to watch. However, this should be a wake up call for democrats. STOP PRETENDING TO BE THE PEOPLE'S PARTY, WHILE CONTINUING TO SERVE THE BILLIONAIRE CLASS, AND STOP SUPPORTING WARS AND PROMOTING DISCORD ACROSS THE PLANET. Trump announced in his victory speech that he would stop the wars. Maybe if Harris had said the same thing while running, she would have won. I have little doubt that her administration's support of the Israeli slaughter in Gaza made a big difference. On the other hand the illusion that Trump would be better on the economy was a persistent one. Ordinary folks are HURTING in America, financially. Of course the republicans will make it worse, but only marginally so. Personally, I wish there was a viable 3rd party not controlled by the moneyed class. America has a greater wealth disparity than any other developed nation. Finally, it's clear that the 'rule of law' is dead in the US when a convicted felon can run for and win the presidency. The message sent here to the rest of us is: "break any law you want to your advantage just like the wealthy do." Of all the things I've mentioned this might be worst and most dangerous precedent. Good luck to my fellow USAn's!

Also the cost of rents and little to no access to affordable housing was high on the list. Thirdly, immigration was a big concern. Despite the "statistics" of a solid economic recovery, people have and continue to personally struggle - so, damn the statistics. The Democrats failed to identify with most of the population on these concerns and have suffered a sound defeat. Harris tried to do it - but it was too little too late.

On the point of immigration, the Democrats have completely missed the point.
There is another issue that never gets said. I am not against international students. However students from other countries get their US college tuitions paid for by their governments, China for example pays students to study here. Meanwhile most US citizens can’t afford college and are penalized if they do study here with massive debt loads which ruin their lives for decades.
Many of these students come from abroad then they stay and find the professional jobs, they are often more likely to find them, and are willing to work for less.
As far as low paid jobs, it’s true that much of the undocumented immigrants seek that. But they are also willing to work for much less.
Native born citizens are squeezed out of opportunities. And many citizens no longer believe in supporting the military and don’t want that opportunity, so the US government gives immigrants a special path to citizenship by enlisting.
I have been a teacher and have told my students to just learn German and go to school for free there.
But the immigration policies are coupled with reducing all viable opportunities for US citizens.

She ran Hillary Clinton's campaign, but even further to the right. Race had some impact, but it pales in comparison to the issues that most people care about. But one crucial questions remains unanswered: what practical goals and strategies, going forward, should we be mapping at the grassroots level, in order to build a “more perfect Union”? Because, while we have been watching the Democrats seemingly decompensate before our eyes, we have been forced to watch the Republicans sink into a morass of graft and corruption since at 2016.
