I have one (oa5pro) since release date and one thing that you said in the video that i agree that the only 2 action cameras currently on the market worth comaparing are these two. Action 5 pro is a new product. Chipset surpasses the one used in ace pro. Its also capable of 8k resolution. I think DJI has a deeper strategy about this camera and its current image quality is not the final word. It will be developing. Try manual modes in both. Besides that this camera is really easy to use and image coming out in auto is really good. The battery is great. The sound is the best on the market. Screens are the best. Interface is quick. The lower bitrate accualy allows you to put more minutes per GB storage. Also its light (fpv drones). One big minus that I saw was low ligt IS problems this blinking and shakiness of bright spots and areas. Better to turn off and stabilize in post in gyroflow and keep the highest image quality. Or use a simplest gimball to help IS. And the price is good too. And care refresh! Simply turn down emotions and wait for the firmware updates and enhancements. Cheers 🖐

The Ace Pro is way bigger and heavier, has half the runtime and costs more. It’s less of an action cam and more of a vlogger cam. Who is going to want that chonk stuck onto their helmet or on a chest mount? If I was going to be mainly shooting handheld footage then I might go for the Ace Pro but if I am going to be shooting mountain biking, motorcycling, snowboarding etc then I would prefer the longer runtime and lighter weight of the 5 Pro. It’s also brand new so maybe they will release some software updates to tweak the ISO etc because I do agree that it looks a bit washed out in some shots but overall it still looks pretty damn good and anyone upgrading from a much older camera should be pleased with it. I have a GoPro Hero 7 Black and it’s pretty old, poor battery life and image quality is crap in low light so I’m about to upgrade. I think the 5 Pro is my pick.
Did you end up buying the Action 5 Pro? I’m also still using the Hero 7 Black and I’m interested in the Action 5 Pro over other offerings for basically the same reasons, lighter weight & battery life. I use mine mainly for Motocross/chin mounted so weight is a big factor.
@ Yeah I bought the Action 5 Pro adventure combo. It’s really good. Thanks so much for giving an honest review. I’m kind of disappointed in DJI; in my view it’s their second consecutive miss. The Neo was disappointing in regard to its image quality, and its follow capabilities are outclassed by the original Hover X1 from what I’ve watched online. I know it’s super-affordable if you don’t buy the controller, but if image quality is important to you then DJI doesn’t offer a pocketable follow drone and Hover is the only option. Fingers crossed that the new versions fill the slot when the reviews drop; I’d rather spend a few extra dollars once and be happy than get a bargain on something I’ll just want to replace. As for the Action 5 pro, well honestly I’m perfectly happy with my action 4 and your video reinforces that. Thank you.
Yeah, versus the Ace Pro...let's see the Ace Pro 2 that should drop in the next couples days. Honestly I'm underwhelmed by mine, it has a couple amazing feature, but I'm really disappointed by the overall visual quality
That Ace Pro stomped that Action 5 in every scenario you showed. I do not own either one so I have no dog in the fight. I am still happy with my GoPro 11. Just so you know I went from the GoPro 5 to the 8 to the 11. So I upgrade every 3 iterations. Anything less is a simple waste of money.
With the firmware update did this help with the bitrate or other concerns? And how does it stack up now? I have a action 4 and was thinking of upgrading
Thanks so much for this comparison, I was very close to pulling the trigger on an Action 5. Will definitely hold out for the firmware update and see how much better the IQ is first.
Nice book collection. After reading many comparative reviews of the Action 5, I purchased a slightly used Action 4 at a very good price. Your review makes me feel better about my purchase 😁
I felt the same way. I thought this would be the camera for my autumn videos. Everything would be sharper and more impressive. But after 3 attempts until the first update finally worked, I was very dismayed. The first shots were in the garden with lots of leaves and forest in the distance. It was anything but detailed. Admittedly, the image looks clear and high in contrast, but all the fine details are missing. Now they're promising an update. Nobody knows if it's really a DJI employee and when the update will come. Since the return period for the camera is running out, I probably won't wait much longer. My Pocket 3 is so much better anyway and delivers reliably.
Hi Roo, Thanks for the honest review. Really hard to trust and find youtubers with honest reviews now a days. Could you please help me pick between the following. Action 4, Action 5, Insta 360 ace pro. I wanna buy 1 action cam + either Insta 360 X3 or Dji pocket 3.
I have to concur with your findings , as I'm currently still on an action 3 , the 5 pro for me would still be an upgrade, ? just not the upgrade level I expected. More people reviewing the OA5 end up discussing the Pocket 3 ! I will hold off to check out the 360 AP2 release .
A brilliant review, brilliantly created, and the only dull thing about it was the lighting in some of the first class comparison shots, which of course is required! In the last couple of weeks my financial priorities have changed and it may be a while before upgrade my Action 2, but it won't be for the A5. Maybe the A6 when it happens. Often the significant upgrades happen with alternate releases, from most companies.
Good man. I'm looking to buy action camera for my fpv. Watched most TH-cam reviews and I just couldn't believe how all dji fan boys admired A5. Crazy marketing, unbelievable "propaganda" I knew A4 would be more then enough for me and I don't need all this extra features. After all I was still going to buy A5. Until I saw your video. Thanks mate. I thought its something wrong with me and was shocked no body tell the truth about A5. Thanks Mate
I write all of the music for this channel. I don't really promote it. Music is just a disposable thing that few people even think twice about when watching a video. I just can't bring myself to support any of the music licensing companies that every other TH-camr uses, because I feel they are exploitative, parasitic organisations that profit from the talents of musicians. So I make everything myself.
@@Roos-Reviews As someone who write his own music for the occasional video also (not on this channel), I'd be interesting in hearing what you're doing, besides here.
I agree whole-heartedly. Can you imagine a Christopher Nolan film without music? I've worked in the music industry for quite a long time, producing and remixing under different aliases. I signed my first record deal in 2008. I never made it big, but what a blast it all was. Things are very different today. I just wish music hadn't become so disposable and devalued. We get $0.001 for a stream, while Spotify is worth $74 billion. It's hard to make a living in this streaming age and now AI is set to make that 100 times harder. I would love to hear your stuff. TH-cam blocks links, but can you tell me what to search for?
@@Roos-Reviews I've only done 2 videos with super simple music not worth your time. I've just become lazy. I've got my dream instruments on PC and IOS, yet never use them. But one day... Actually, this profile has 2 pieces of music I wrote back in 2013 or 14. Not for videos, but just for my own listening. If you have any links of your atmospheric stuff, I'd like to hear them. And yes, Christopher Nolan, I especially love the Interstellar soundtrack, almost anything by Ennio Morricone, Philip Glass and so many others.
The Action 5 has a lot of that phone camera look. It's also clear to me they sacrificed detail for low-light ability. You can see the daytime sky and clouds @6:03 are one big blur.
Yes, the hyper-lifted shadows on this new gen is one reason I prefer older generations. The iPhone does the same thing. It lifts the shadows up into this surreal, highly processed look that I don't love. I don't think I want my action cameras to do the same thing. I think it would be nice if we could turn this off for those who would prefer.
I wished DJI paid me for my reviews on the A5 LOL Although some features were improved, I didn't see it as a huge upgrade to the A4 especially in the image quality department. Mine is likely going back as I still love the A4. Too bad, some of the features I really like but not enough for me to keep at $500 camera, great review as usual!
Thanks! Yeah, I think your decision is wise. The Action 5 Pro isn't really that much better than the Action 4 if we are just talking about video quality, so it's probably better to save 500 bucks and wait for something with a larger sensor that doesn't need so much software processing to improve the image quality. Because at this point, I think action cameras are hitting a plateau and companies are relying on internal Image processing tricks to create the illusion of better quality.
this is literally an eye opener video, no pun intended 😂😂 you really thought out of the box to bring the action 2 in this fight 😅 honestly i kind of hate that plastic look of the Action 5 footage when action 4 looks so nice and adds that subtle dramatic mood and ace makes the scenes just perfectly bright and not any more brighter
What is the iPhone 16 Pro Max of the action camera world please? I recently ordered Action 5 Pro and this is my first action camera! I just wanna know if that's a nice decision? I don't do vlogs or anything else. It is just for posting vertical stories and reels on my instagram. Oh yes and I already have a DJI Mini 4 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro for comparison of the image quality. Thanks!
Welcome to the World of incremental improvements... which is the trend in mature industries... like smartphones... gaming gear...and just about every form of tech out there. I think there's a tendency to hype every new release and there's often "just" small incremental improvements in many areas but nothing that knocks you over. I think the DJI Pocket 3 was as close as it gets to a revolutionary improvement in small cameras. It arguably has no rival for it's size/weight and the quality of image it produces with good stabilization.... especially in low light. All the Action cams are basically slowly grinding forward and like this video shows... it's probably best to look back several years to see any major improvements. Improved battery life... slightly better sound abilities... slightly better low light options (if you don't expect perfection). I think these cameras are better but yes.. no reason to run and get every release if you are essentially satisfied with what you have because the new releases are only going to be maybe 5% better overall. Less trash from old discarded cameras and tech is another bonus to not buying every new release..
Newer is not always better. Skip the hype train and wait for reality to set in. I think hardware-wise, the 5 still has untapped potential. However, I will wait for one or two major firmware updates before making my final judgment. The Ace Pro certainly outperforms the 5 in terms of detail. I am interested to see what the Ace Pro 2 brings to the table, but considering leaks, it will still be a chunky device with better flogging potential than the AC5P. It will probably occupy the space between the P3 and AC5.
My Action 5 Pro is shipping on the way. Seeing your videos makes me regret ordering this action camera. I already have a Pocket 3 and it's great, I love it. But sometimes I like to shoot video at a higher speed of movement, like when I'm riding a bike or moto-scooter. The Pocket 3 still performs well, but I have to hold the Pocket 3 the entire time. I want to have an alternative and try some other ways to see if I can free my hands. By the way, I choose Action 5 Pro instead of Insta360 Ace is because it is more compact, small and light weight. Also I do not like action cameras with a flip screen design.
If it's going to be your first modern action camera I think you will be happy with it. It's a good camera, it just isn't the revolutionary camera they said it was.
Well, i'm not a fan, but comparing any action camera with Pocket3 is a little bit unfair. Video quality wise i've not been impressed by the Action 5 over the Action 4. In fact, in many situations the 4 looks better. As an early adopter i've mixed feelings. You forgot to mention the dual Mic2 connectivity that is far better than Action 4 does. This is the cause of my mixed feelings. The Mic2 integration is so good that it worth the upgrade for me (for me). But the video... man! Hope that DJI really address this in next firmware, so many codec artifacts! Ace Pro is tempting video wise, but the tilting single screen is not so good as many say in my opinion. Being used to frequently switch from selfie to environment while shooting, i find cumbersome at least being forced to continuously tilt the only screen to simply check the framing. Anyway. Let's see how things evolve.
Yeah, the Pocket 3 is kind of a different animal, but some of my viewers had asked me to compare the Action 5 Pro to the Pocket 3, which is why I did. I find the Ace Pro a bit large and cumbersome, but I do like the flip-up display, because when I am shooting something low to the ground, I can flip it up halfway and see exactly what I am framing. Whereas with other action cameras, I can't do this.
Interesting. Many scenarios I found the Action 5 performing better in imagery. I shoot d-log on both though and tone down the Textures and Noise Reduction in camera. There was only one scenario I liked how the Action 4 exposed the scene better but it also made for a higher noise level way above the Action 5. Action 5 otherwise had a much better dynamic range and with a REC 709 Lut from DJI's website the colors look great. I do agree though if people are wanting to shoot on normal color mode. The image looks awful and I would take an Action 4 over a 5 any day.
@@BrytonSchwabPhotography I do shot DLog too. I noticed that in extreme conditions something like a temporal denoise tearing is visible. Shooting the same scene with Action 4 shows more noise for sure but also better definition. If it wasn't for the improved microphone connection I'd already returned the 5. Let's see how next fw will do.
@@UmbertoUderzo I think that is the difference people are choosing between. An image with a higher noise but more natural look or one with a denoise being applied in camera. I only like the image with a -2 NR on the Action 5. My guess is the noise reduction is always being applied and why even in the day we lose slight definition. The denoise is hiding definition. It would be nice if they toned it down during lower ISO's. The firmware will be interesting to say the least and the mic connections for 2 is also a big reason on why I am keeping mine too.
There isn't much of a video quality improvement in these yearly updates from any of theses small camera companies, DJI, GoPro, Apple, Insta360. Where the real improvements come from these days are much longer battery life, onboard memory storage, add on macro and wide angles lenses. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for this comparison and eye opening! I was about to buy one because I was also very hyped... They have done great marketing but that's all😅
So you recommend to return camera for a refund ... mine has frustrated me straight out of the box even firmware updates.. don't believe the hype I must listen before jumping on the band wagon. Terrible potato vision camera..
My Panasonic lx10 with a 1” sensor is 13.2 x 8.8 so the dji p3 is comparable at 12.7 x 9.6 mm what’s disappointing is the action 5 still doesn’t use the same size sensor as the p3 being only 10.0 x 7.5mm What a disappointment - better off buying an action 4
I swear. Most people buy the latest gear just to say they have it. With nary an idea how to use many of the features on them I have a harem of Hero 8 Black Cameras. You can pick them up for little and they reliably do the job Very few pro camera users here it must be said
Okay I'm not someone who follows hype but I have the feeling that they can definitely solve this with a software update if they can't do that with a software update then I personally am Disappointed
The chip is the real upgrade, and if anyone has any understanding of why, you know why. If you don't understand what this means, go back to gopro, it'll be nice and easy for you.

I returned mine.
Hi Roo,
Thanks for the honest review.
Thanks, Peter. Yes, with better performance comes a bigger price tag.
Thanks Mate
Finally someone who is honest! The OA5 has such a low bitrate...... especially at 25mph it gets muddy
I have GoPro Hero 11 for my bicycle rides, does it make sense to upgrade to Action 5? I would appreciate eg. longer run on battery.
I think you just answered your own question 😀
You can not get high level low light shoots from any action cameras.
Totally off the subject, but do you write your own music and if so, do you have a channel or someplace else to hear it?
I write all of the music for this channel. I don't really promote it. Music is just a disposable thing that few people even think twice about when watching a video. I just can't bring myself to support any of the music licensing companies that every other TH-camr uses, because I feel they are exploitative, parasitic organisations that profit from the talents of musicians. So I make everything myself.
@@Roos-Reviews As someone who write his own music for the occasional video also (not on this channel), I'd be interesting in hearing what you're doing, besides here.
@@Roos-Reviews The music for videos is almost as essential as the visuals are.
😂😂😂😂 the iPhone 16 of the camera world! Subscribed ‼️
Very good honest review
The new firmware launched today fixing amongst things, the low bitrate issue...:)
Thanks for the honest review. I'll wait on this buy, then
Great review, thanks
@@Roos-Reviews I'll save it for the new Ace Pro 2 ;)
which one is more true to colours? ACE or ACTION?
Thank you. The AcePro looks nice. Not too impressed with the DJI one
this is literally an eye opener video, no pun intended 😂😂
you really thought out of the box to bring the action 2 in this fight 😅
honestly i kind of hate that plastic look of the Action 5 footage when action 4 looks so nice and adds that subtle dramatic mood and ace makes the scenes just perfectly bright and not any more brighter
Thanks!
I think you will be very satisfied with your purchase.
@@Roos-Reviews Thanks bro
I think you can't do anything wrong with action cams from all 3 big brands, just some of them are more hyped than others.
DJI, bring us an improved Action 2!
How to by action 5 pro widout combo please reply me!!!
I’m still getting better results for image quality from my GoPro HERO 12, exception low light which I rarely use it for!
Is it not a full 1” ? If it isn’t, it’s not worth investing
You completely get it.
very good and honest...
I have this as my first Dji camera
Great comparison footage Cheers 👌👏🤘
Newer is not always better. Skip the hype train and wait for reality to set in. I think hardware-wise, the 5 still has untapped potential. However, I will wait for one or two major firmware updates before making my final judgment. The Ace Pro certainly outperforms the 5 in terms of detail. I am interested to see what the Ace Pro 2 brings to the table, but considering leaks, it will still be a chunky device with better flogging potential than the AC5P. It will probably occupy the space between the P3 and AC5.
Do color grade that D log m color the colors is off 5pro
Excellent video, as ever. As I suspected. I’ll keep my Ace Pro & Pocket 3 (until the Ace Pro 2 “revolution” 😉)
Tbh only reason I see getting this is if you don't already have an action camera. If I already had the 4 I probably wouldn't upgrade.
Exactly. It would be an amazing first action camera, but perhaps a lackluster upgrade from the previous generation.
The only draw back is ace pro doesn’t support DJI mic 2.
It does now.
Low tone voice, dark footage, creepy background music. This is a horror film
Well, it is coming up to Halloween.
Was not expecting to be as creeped out as I was during the low light segment haha.
@@Roos-Reviews I see your point. Just different usages. Thanks for your reply!
Ya know what they are what they are. All of them are decent
Wow, what a nice video. Your video adds so much value for making an educated choice, it’s second to none. Thank you very much 👍
I would definitely get this camera than go Pro for half price
There isn't much of a video quality improvement in these yearly updates from any of theses small camera companies, DJI, GoPro, Apple, Insta360. Where the real improvements come from these days are much longer battery life, onboard memory storage, add on macro and wide angles lenses. Thanks for sharing.
I agree completely.
Excellent
Keep it up
Thank you very much for this comparison and eye opening! I was about to buy one because I was also very hyped... They have done great marketing but that's all😅
So you recommend to return camera for a refund ... mine has frustrated me straight out of the box even firmware updates.. don't believe the hype I must listen before jumping on the band wagon. Terrible potato vision camera..
battery performance is game changer I think.
Yes, but they lowered the bitrate to get that longer runtime.
There're more videos out where the action 5 actually looks a bit "soft"...
My Panasonic lx10 with a 1” sensor is 13.2 x 8.8 so the dji p3 is comparable at 12.7 x 9.6 mm what’s disappointing is the action 5 still doesn’t use the same size sensor as the p3 being only 10.0 x 7.5mm
What a disappointment - better off buying an action 4
So Iike to see your review about GoPro 13.
I swear. Most people buy the latest gear just to say they have it. With nary an idea how to use many of the features on them
I have a harem of Hero 8 Black Cameras. You can pick them up for little and they reliably do the job
Very few pro camera users here it must be said
Okay I'm not someone who follows hype but I have the feeling that they can definitely solve this with a software update if they can't do that with a software update then I personally am Disappointed
DJI is boasting about longer recording times at the cost of video quality. this isn’t what a ‘pro’ product should be.
I still stick to my hero 7 for now.lol i have a pocket 3 though.
Agree on all counts. Thanks for injecting some reality here.
A very good video that stands out in a sea of mis-information - Thanks indeed!
Nice!!
Endless shopping
Calidad, de Video.
Nice one
Come fore the review, subscribe for the doggo(jk)! Thanks for the review. Very helpful.
Hope you are not going down the 1.6 billion dollars lane. Last couple of videos on DJI certainly felt different from your usual fare.
What's the 1.6 billion dollars lane?
Wow! All those GoPro haters are quite in the comments here! 🤔
i am returning my action 5..... action 3 is better. action 5 too jjittery even in outdoor
Any Shilltuber who gets a sponsorship or free gear is never going to give an honest review
It should be called action 4 Pro Max instead
well damn.
Oa3 here
Looks like maybe oa9 will be worth upgrading.
Stop lying DJI
You need to get an e reader
My Action 4 seems to provide better video to be honest.
The chip is the real upgrade, and if anyone has any understanding of why, you know why. If you don't understand what this means, go back to gopro, it'll be nice and easy for you.
